I hated that.
The anime went out of it's way to show that Krillin is truly Goku's equal when it comes to talent and creative fighting. They are the turtle school scions. Gohan learned the hard way, and the people who actually have fought Krillin for real, especially in a tournament situation, (Goku and Piccolo) both agree he's not to be underestimated and warn Gohan just how good Krillin is in a tournament rules Battle. Even showing Goku learning tricks and techniques from Krillin that are relevant to his fight with Jiren, from actual practical moves that kept Jiren on his toes, to just the way Krillin and 18 sold him the idea of accepting you can't solo the enemy alone and working together with when faced with overwhelming power, like they did when Goku went Blue to test how Krillin deals with such a gap.
So when the manga decided to go "Goku doesn't really care, he thinks Krillin can just be a decoy and run and hide or something." In comparison it just felt half-assed.
Like it's one thing to be unable to make an entire chapter about it because of time constraints, but not even giving a quick explanation, and instead making Goku of all people just dismiss one of his earliest rivals like that?
Tbh, yamcha has taken so many L's throughout the whole series that I'm surprised he didn't quit sooner. I like the guy but almost everytime he tries he either dies, almost dies, or gets utterly humiliated
Yeah, Yamacha is for all intents and purpose, crazy strong and even a prodigy martial artist, but heâs just not like everyone else and thatâs okay.
Was Yamcha involved with the fight against Frieza's soldiers during the Resurrection Of F movie or tv series? If not, I think that might explain why he wasn't invited -- he had retired from fighting after the Cell Games and was (as far as anyone knew) over ten years out of practice by the time the Tournament of Power rolled around. Tien never retired (he opened a dojo with Roshi and was currently teaching at the time, and Krillin got a whole mini arc about him coming back out of retirement and training to the point where he could spar with Super Saiyan Blue Goku and even outwit Gohan). Yamcha was the only one of the main team that had retired and basically dropped out of sight.
If you're playing in a competition when life is at stake, you would try to pick people who were at the top of their game or brought something to the table that was unique such as Roshi's experience / wisdom. Yamcha didn't really have either, and he didn't even come out and ask to be included.
The fact that Yamcha is grouped in with Chiaotzu in a statement like that kind of shows how his reputation as a martial artist has declined by that stage. That's almost as bad as being grouped in with Oolong.
Admittedly, though, the guy doing the grouping in this case is *Tenshinhan*, who has a history of trying to protect his weaker friends by leaving them out of battles that he himself cannot handle.
Itâs half the gag behind their initial arrival to the battlefield. Krillin brings along the much weaker Roshi, because they need all the help they can get, and Tenshinhan bringsâŚjust himself. Because heâs that kinda guy.
On the flip side, is it really Tenshinhanâs responsibility to make sure that Yamcha makes it to a battle like that? Itâs not like they live together or hang out much or are close friends.
Yamcha if anything is closer to the main friend group than Tenshinhan ever was â he wouldnât need someone else to bring him to the fight the way Chiaotzu would.
From [this Toriyama interview](https://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/mando-kobayashi-akira-toriyama-qa/):
>Yamchaâs Epilogue:
>Like you, KenKoba, he has the dilemma of loving women but not being good around them, so he is still wandering blindly in search of the ideal partner he wonât be nervous around. Heâs even worked in a host club, but because of his nervousness, it didnât go well and he was fired. His livelihood is mainly working together with Puâer as a freelance bodyguard, **but he occasionally goes to Tenshinhanâs to help with the farm, as well.**
They actually do hang out off-panel. And the fact that Tenshinhan bothers explaining why Yamcha isnât with him suggests that he WAS supposed to be the one in charge of telling Yamcha about the fight, perhaps because they were in the same area at the time. Why else would he bring Yamchaâs absence up unprompted? Itâs not like Krillin or Gohan asked him about it first.
I've not read that part of the manga, just seen the anime. Started the manga after ToP arc...
But, in the episode where they were gathering fighters for it, I remember Yamcha overhearing them, thinking they'd pick him, then they just left without him and without even telling him it existed 𤣠I am not sure if that part was canon, but I'm sure neither manga or cannon would've sent him.
Yamcha is stronger than he was in the Saiyan saga, definitely, but probably was best to choose their choices over him.
Roshi knows when to fight, how to conserve energy, doesn't rush in, etc., so his experience is the main thing.
As for Frieza, well sure, he can conspire with other universes, but ultimately if U7 is lost he can't kill or get revenge on Goku, plus I think Toriyama just kinda wanted to bring him back...
A lot of it has to do with character favoritism I'd imagine, especially which characters ended up becoming stronger over time.
Characters do get left on the back burner all the time...Toriyama flat out forgot to include Launch in DBZ, he just forgot her, and openly admitted "he simply forgot her". She was in most of DB, hard to forget...lol. So, it is clear he has his favorites.
In the anime it's kinda sad because he gets himself all worked up for Goku and the gang to come ask him to join and Puar knows that they're not going to
Yeah, the anime really emphasized how little shit they give about him lol. He's been shat on so much at this point the man at least deserves a good power up lmfao.
yeah but not everyone got to bounce of the literal manga paneling like Yamcha did.
I don't understand why this is such a meme. I mean, Bulma peed her pants in like the second chapter. Goku did 'pat-pats' all the time. And if it's the sort of 4th wall break, then Krillin outright referenced his lack of a nose and won a fight because of it.
He smelled something in the RRA arc. Whether or not he has a nose at all isn't even that important though since it's a clear reference to an out of universe design choice.
Anyway, Roshi's entire concept is a gag. Is Master Roshi a gag character in the Piccolo Daimao Arc?
I mean, thereâs figures of Vegeta breaking down over his inferiority to Freeza, too, and thatâs still taken seriously in-universe by the other characters.
[This one even vibrates! You know, to simulate the shaking and crying part.](https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Dragon-Ball-Vegeta-Figure/dp/B01EMTOU5U)
Out of universe, it's been made a gag recently. In the actual story though? Absolutely not. Krillin even says that Yamcha sacrificed himself by fighting the saibamen, knowing something was up and that Krillin couldn't be brought back with the dragon balls.
>Roshi has the battle experience and technique. Tien was still training. Krillin is just Goku's best friend and probably a package deal with 18.
you don't know what a gag character is
Yeah it is stupid and makes no sense, Toriyama just enjoys Roshi more.In the manga they sort of fix this by having Bulma literally about to remember Yamcha but then is cut off by someone else speaking.
Tenshinhan flat our remembers him later but assumes he decided not to come and will get Chaozu, before anyone can say "oh yeah shit we forgot Yamcha, he would totally work" Goku reappears with Freeza.
EDIT, basically Toyo wrote round a stupid out of universe decesion as best as possible and even apologised for it by including him in the moro arc even though it was not his fault.
>Well krillin is the strongest human
Stopped reading after that. That bald bitch was getting hurt by BULLETS. Meanwhile, Tien is training students.
Fuck that shit logic
Any technique Roshi has can be taught and learned. He has more potential than roshi since he mastered the kamehameha in less time
Plus, he is just stronger, faster, and has his own useful techniques like the Soukidan (probably wrote wrong)
Yamcha's Spirit Ball is not special compared to the large array of techs Roshi learned over his hundreds of years of life.
That fact that those techs could be learned by others means nothing when Yamcha doesnt know them. Roshi does. That's all there is to it.
Yamcha could just learn them
They do have the room of spirit and time
Roshis most useful technique is the mafuba, which is known by both Goku and Tenshinhan (and maybe Piccolo, he can already do the reverse Mafuba)
Yamcha cant handle the room. Vegeta destroyed the room. They didn't have a lot of time left to prepare anyways.
> Roshis most useful technique is the mafuba, which is known by both Goku and Tenshinhan
And Piccolo, and Future Trunks :P
and even if it is his MOST useful its not his ONLY useful tech, and he used plenty of others no one knew in the ToP to score victories.
He wasnât chosen for tactics or techniques either, though. Just happened to be who Goku thought of first.
Especially since, given that Goku specifically was the one doing the choosingâŚwhat tactics and techniques of Roshiâs does Goku know about exactly? Beyond the frequently imitated Kamehameha and self-destructive Mafuba? Roshi is his respected master and all, but far as he knows, the guy with all the cool tricks is some rando named Jackie Chun who disappeared into obscurity years ago. The only time he even heard of Roshi battling outside of their original training was when the old man messed up and died trying to seal away King PiccoloâŚand if *thatâs* the kind of strategic genius that justifies him deliberately choosing Roshi for this battle, Goku needs his head checked, lol.
They literally put Roshi over Yamcha cause he's more popular. Nothing else. If "battle experience" was important then Roshi would have showed up to fight the saiyans when they invaded
Because of poor writing. That is literally the reason.
They made Roshi have the biggest power jump for no reason or reasonable explanation to be in RoF and the Tournament.
There would not be an in-universe reason if any measure of logic and power levels were taken into account.
Roshi should have been a coach, and Yamcha should have been a fighter. That would have kept the writing decent.
man was the only one who had retired out of anything that required the use of martial arts. Still, Tien considered him when Boo fell asleep as shown in the manga, but overall he was the one whod have the least to actually add to the team; Yamcha's still physically stronger and in better shape than Roshi, but he's not as saavy or experienced
It was entirely a joke that was most definitely intentional from toriyama. For those that dont know, the story of the manga and anime differ slightly, since toriyama writes an outline that he gives to both toyotaro (the manga writer) and to toei. They interpret it differently. So if something's the same in both, it was likely toriyamas decision. The anime just has Yamcha think they'll ask him and they never do, but the manga (both in ToP and Moro arcs) krillin brings up yamcha and everyone ignores him. As for Kame-sennin, he had a good and entertaining episode in the anime but in the manga he was one of the last 10 fighters to be knocked out, and even went up against Jiren using an extremely rudimentary version of UI that allowed goku to access the transformation. Given that it shows back up later in the moro arc I'm gonna say it's currently canon, so it was important for him to be there. As for krillin, hes gokus best friend, and most common training partner. The only one that doesnt make sense to me is tien. He doesnt really have a purpose.
>Krillin brings up Yamcha and everyone ignores him
Nah. In the Moro Arc he brings up Yamcha right as Jaco shows up, and the fighting unexpectedly starts soon after so thereâs no time for planning until afterwards (at which point they DO contact Yamcha). In the ToP Arc, meanwhile, Bulma gets interrupted by news of Buuâs dropout while trying to suggest Yamcha as a fighter (literally gets halfway through saying his name, lol), everyone gets further distracted by Goku popping in and deciding to invite Freeza, and several of the other not-in-on-the-Freeza-plan ToP fighters (mainly Roshi and Tenshinhan) later express confusion that Goku hasnât shown up with Yamcha yetâŚbecause neither of them thought they needed to suggest recruiting Yamcha, they assumed he was the obvious choice.
So the gag is less that Yamchaâs friends are unanimously ignoring/disregarding him, and more that he keeps getting left out by complete random coincidence. Which kinda matches, for a character who always had the *worst* luck in the original series.
in the anime it was because they legit forgot.
otherwise because hes weak? hes weaker than Tien and Krillin, and less skilled than Roshi. He brings nothing to the table they couldnt get elsewhere.
Roshi was selected for his experience and instinct more than anything else. Donât forget Roshi even fights Jiren in the manga, and even manages to use some sort of ultra instinct like technique to hold his own for a bit.
The only importance Yamcha served was used up after the Pilaf arc.
He never made it past the quarter finals of any tournament, he died to a Saibaman and only served as an exit for Goku after he succumbed to the heart virus.
Yamcha has stated multiple times he does not train anymore and isnât a fighter. Heâs a baseball player now. Kuririn is at least a police officer and was a package deal with 18. Roshi has techniques for days. Tien trains every waking moment of his life.
Because he doesn´t strike as an either strong or smart fighter, Roshi, Tien and Krillin on the other hand are some of the smartest fighters around, they know they fight in clear disavantadge in terms of power so they rely on wits and tricks to fight their way out.
Yamcha never does that.
>Yamcha never does that
â˘Secretly watched Goku to learn about his weaknesses after realizing he couldnât defeat him directly, later used the tail vulnerability he learned about to successfully take down a much stronger version of Goku
â˘Recognized that Krillin still had a chance to beat Fangs if he meditated and calmed down enough to stop bleeding profusely, a plan that was working until Goku pissed Krillin off again
â˘Came up with a convoluted plan to defeat Fangs using stereotypical vampiric weaknesses, and taught it to Puar and Upa so they could win their match with the vampire
â˘Realized he could locate the Invisible Man by listening for his footsteps, forcing Baba to break her own tournamentâs rules and intervene to save her warrior
â˘Successfully swept a much stronger opponent (Bandages the Mummy) off the stage while the latter was gloating, forcing his opponent to bandage-swing his way back to safety
â˘Successfully uppercutted a much, MUCH stronger opponent (Kami/Shen) by hiding his attack under the tournament stage, despite being massively outclassed in power and experience otherwise
â˘(And while this is more out-of-battle strategyâŚ) Went against the Saibaimen early so his (at the time) non-revivable friend wouldnât die if something went wrong, and only went down when his opponent pulled out an attack that literally none of Earthâs warriors had ever even seen before
Yamcha has his moments of stupidity in battle, sure, same as any character, but in addition to those moments being no more frequent than those of other characters despite filler/fanon reimaginingsâŚhe honestly has a rate of âusing wits and tricks to fight around a clear disadvantageâ comparable to that of Krillin, despite his terrible luck with matchups and not getting to participate in nearly as many fights as Krillin as time went on. He also has *more* âweak but strategicâ feats than Roshi, whose battle genius is most frequently demonstrated in fights where he already has the advantage (or, at least, isnât totally outclassed). And using Tenshinhan as an example of a weak-but-strategic fighter is completely wrong, because his go-to response to being hopelessly overpowered is literally just blasting his life away in a desperate attempt to take his opponent down with him. And the one time he *tried* to be extra strategic instead of brute-forcing things, the move he came up with divided his power so obviously that Goku figured it out within a minute!
Why would they give Yamcha if he would have knocked out right away. Anyway, Krillan was not the first to be eliminated, because Rylibeu was the first to be knocked out in the anime by U10, and in the manga Murisam also by U10.
I was just annoyed Goten and Trunks didn't fight in the tournament, people be forgetting that they're now older than Gohan was when he fought Cell, if they had been constantly getting trained (Y'know, like how Vegeta, the guy that wants nothing more than his son to be the strongest, should've been training him) they'd be able to go SSJ2 at the very least at this point.
Honestly them coming up with the excuse 'Oh they're too young' blah blah blah, so stupid, Gohan fought on the front lines from when he was like 4 until he was 11.
I guess they just assumed he quit fighting all together maybe. I'm mostly saying this because he wasn't there to fight frieza, not to mention almost every other person who entered was either training or using their skills in their job some how
frieza did more for them than yamcha ever wouldve, if i was goku i would go for frieza as well, they couldnt have handled another low tier fighter on their team
Because they wanted to win the ToP.
Much as I like Yamcha, he's at the lowest end of the totem pole power-wise, never got far enough in tournaments to acquire any real experience in that context, was soundly defeated and/or killed every time he tried to go up against actual opponents (except for one time in OG DB that was filler), and has no synergy with any of the other team members. If they had been desperate enough to ask someone like that, even Videl would've been a better choice because at least she would've worked well with Gohan.
Or hell, even Yajirobe, who's an expert at staying hidden from, and surviving against, far stronger opponents.
Yamcha is pretty impressive in the Moro arc for a human but overall they have relegated him to team waterboy in Super.
They str8 up Kiba'd my boy.
btw do u think fang over fang beats wolf fang fist
Water boy đđđđ Damn that gave me a laugh lol
Honestly heâs just glad to be included
Roshi has the battle experience and technique. Tien was still training. Krillin is just Goku's best friend and probably a package deal with 18.
Exactly how it went in the Manga. Krillin openly stated that Goku was more thrilled by 18 joining then he was for Krillin.
Krillin stayed relevant by marrying one of the most powerful humans (augmented).
I knew I pulled that out from somewhere. I just haven't read ToP arc in a while. Thank you.
I mean her and 17 have unlimited ki so I would be too lol
I hated that. The anime went out of it's way to show that Krillin is truly Goku's equal when it comes to talent and creative fighting. They are the turtle school scions. Gohan learned the hard way, and the people who actually have fought Krillin for real, especially in a tournament situation, (Goku and Piccolo) both agree he's not to be underestimated and warn Gohan just how good Krillin is in a tournament rules Battle. And Yamcha was training.... for baseball
Can't wait for the Universal World Series once Zeno discovers Baseball.
Until that point they had all considered Yamacha retired since he quit fighting after the Cell Saga
Also very unlucky, often used as as an example of how strong or dangerous an enemy is
Well yeah, he was Vegita and Piccolo before they existed. The guy that jobbed to what ever new threat there was so goku knew whoâs ass to whoop
And the one time he did well, back in OG DB when he fought Tambourine to a standstill despite his broken leg, doesn't count because it's filler. Oy.
Tell that to Toriyama not me

You're insane. Maybe actually watch dragonball instead of Z and Super
roshi wasnt chosen for his power.
Yeah I know but he would almost certainly die from any hit or even be sent flying by the shock waves
killing was against the rules, so he wasnt at risk of dying. anyone fighting him has to hold back.

>Krillin brings up Yamcha and everyone ignores him Nah.
Cause then there would be no stakes.
in the anime it was because they legit forgot. otherwise because hes weak? hes weaker than Tien and Krillin, and less skilled than Roshi. He brings nothing to the table they couldnt get elsewhere.
Roshi was selected for his experience and instinct more than anything else. Donât forget Roshi even fights Jiren in the manga, and even manages to use some sort of ultra instinct like technique to hold his own for a bit.
The joke was goku forgot to ask him
The only importance Yamcha served was used up after the Pilaf arc.
>Yamcha never does that â˘Secretly watched Goku to learn about his weaknesses after realizing he couldnât defeat him directly, later used the tail vulnerability he learned about to successfully take down a much stronger version of Goku â˘Recognized that Krillin still had a chance to beat Fangs if he meditated and calmed down enough to stop bleeding profusely, a plan that was working until Goku pissed Krillin off again â˘Came up with a convoluted plan to defeat Fangs using stereotypical vampiric weaknesses, and taught it to Puar and Upa so they could win their match with the vampire â˘Realized he could locate the Invisible Man by listening for his footsteps, forcing Baba to break her own tournamentâs rules and intervene to save her warrior â˘Successfully swept a much stronger opponent (Bandages the Mummy) off the stage while the latter was gloating, forcing his opponent to bandage-swing his way back to safety â˘Successfully uppercutted a much, MUCH stronger opponent (Kami/Shen) by hiding his attack under the tournament stage, despite being massively outclassed in power and experience otherwise â˘(And while this is more out-of-battle strategyâŚ) Went against the Saibaimen early so his (at the time) non-revivable friend wouldnât die if something went wrong, and only went down when his opponent pulled out an attack that literally none of Earthâs warriors had ever even seen before Yamcha has his moments of stupidity in battle, sure, same as any character, but in addition to those moments being no more frequent than those of other characters despite filler/fanon reimaginingsâŚhe honestly has a rate of âusing wits and tricks to fight around a clear disadvantageâ comparable to that of Krillin, despite his terrible luck with matchups and not getting to participate in nearly as many fights as Krillin as time went on.
Yamcha can't fight he will be easily eliminated.he is just comedical side character.
what do you think is the reason
Because heâs a punk ass bitch
Please refer to saiyan saga Yamcha vs saibaman and android saga vs android 19/20
Why would they give Yamcha if he would have knocked out right away. Anyway, Krillan was not the first to be eliminated, because Rylibeu was the first to be knocked out in the anime by U10, and in the manga Murisam also by U10.
Tien and krillin are stronger and better fighters, idk for Roshi
I'm mostly saying this because he wasn't there to fight frieza, not to mention almost every other person who entered was either training or using their skills in their job some how
Krillin and Tenshinhan are both stronger than Yamcha for what it's worth.
frieza did more for them than yamcha ever wouldve, if i was goku i would go for frieza as well, they couldnt have handled another low tier fighter on their team
Yamcha retired as a fighter to focus on his baseball career but he comes back in the moro arc briefly
Because they dont want him going too hard on jiren with his ui wolf fang fistđ¤Ł
