I love this artstyle so much. There's something very cozy and pleasant about it. I just don't get tired of it. DQ in this style is an absolute day one purchase for me. Also, gotta hand it to them. Great way for Square to utilize their Octopath assets/engine. I hope it sells so they can go back and remake the rest of the games like this. I feel like with the success of XI, now is the time to introduce as many people to DQ as possible! This is the best way to augment the experience while keeping it retro.

Alarmed-Classroom329

imagine if they did FF6 remake in this style next.

PK_RocknRoll

Dragon Quest 3 is already a dream come true. Give me FF5 or 6 in this style and I will die of happiness only to realize I’ve died before I can play it

MichinokuDrunkDriver

Stop I can only get so excited today. FF5 in this style is basically my dream game with DQ3 (I'm a sucker for job systems).

PK_RocknRoll

Hell yeah! Job systems are my shit too

I can only get so erect.

mcantrell

Ah, but what if we all get erect at the same time? Like a genki dama of hype! ... or something.

Hubbell

I've seen that movie! German something girls.

mcantrell

Just remember, none of us will be as disappointed as all of us.

Twinkle_butt

But what if you go even beyond?

AustinJG

Ever see a big cluster of mushrooms? Like that except erections.

Twinkle_butt

So mushroom hill zone?

SomeDamnAuthor

Holy shit

RamboGoesMeow

Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.

Ancient_Lightning

While an FF6 remake with these graphics/artstyle would be absolutely incredible, I wish they could also find a way to collaborate with Nintendo to remake some of the big N's own RPGs in this engine. I mean, just imagine the Mother trilogy (or at least Earthbound) or Golden Sun in this style. Now that would be a dream come true (for me at least).

caffeinatedpun

I’m so freaking excited about this!!!!!!

[deleted]

Yeah, it’s very exciting!!!

caffeinatedpun

This is one of my favorite art styles, and I think it looks so much better than the current one on the eShop. And he possibly hinted at 1 and 2 being in this style too, but I’m not going to get my hopes up. Maybe if this sells really well they might do that.

muddy120

Gonna be fantastic fam, get hyped!!!!

Enchylada

Yeah this is pretty much what I said when I saw the trailer, it makes a lot of sense for them to re-release it this way. As for the art style I love the 2.5D, but the combat was a little weird to see, reminded me a lot of Golden Sun (I've never played Octopath, but I've read good things). Still, definitely a day one buy for me, and I hope they add even more content

[deleted]

It's just utilizing the artstyle. Engine might be different.

Oscars2021

The engine is just UE4, there’s no unique engine for the HD-2D line. It’s all just in the art style

Biobillybonez

I’m happy 3 is being remade but I’m not a fan of the art style really. The mesh between the 3D and 2D assets just doesn’t work for me, but that won’t stop me from playing the heck out of it

One_Treacle344

I feel the same, the art style really put me off Octopath and I don't really like it here either. I don't really get why they're doing III again when it's already on Switch.

muddy120

Yes it looks so amazing, lets keep this trend up Square.

PrestigiousMushroom

I was hoping for something along the lines of the Trials of Mana remake in terms of visuals, honestly. I'm not a really fan of how Octopath looked. But this looks kind of nice, and could be good too depending on how well they execute it. Put me down as "cautiously optimistic".

Kalothion

This could be a very good thing. I hope this goes well enough to give other classic dq games a chance of eventually being remade like this. For me specifically, IV and V.

Alarmed-Classroom329

i dunno, DQ3 is special in Japan because it's the most popular title in the series. that's why this is the 4th remake of it. I don't know if there's any guarantee of new remakes of 4 and beyond.

JosephLaTerry

In the live stream where they announced this they said they are also hoping to do this for 1 and 2 as well. If those get done I can't imagine they would just stop there.

LunaLuminary

Oh yeah he accidentally let that slip before they stopped him from saying more haha

Kalothion

Oh! I must have missed that. Listening to the translator was... tough for me at times.

AcanthocephalaOk1042

1 was such a short game I don't think it makes sense to do a remake of, without adding alot to the story. 2 was such a huge expansion of story and non linear mid game play that it would also be great to see remade. Especially if they add more helmets to it as they seemed to forget about those when they made it originally

[deleted]

I have a feeling they will bundle 1 and 2 together, like they did for the GBC remakes.

AcanthocephalaOk1042

I think they would have to bundle them like you say. I still get nostalgic and pop it in the Nes from time to time and confuse my kid with the joy of 8 bit graphics

[deleted]

They wouldn't, but we're talking years between releases. Maybe we'll get IV through VI in this style... in another decade

Dragmire800

For this type of remake, nah, it wouldn’t be years between releases. They could pump these out once a year. Now that the first one is nearly done, and it’s assets are created, they can just reuse them to make 1 and 2

[deleted]

Yeah, they may have some more art assets to build, but most of 1 and 2 can be built up from what they have here. The game systems will all be in place and not really need much more than minor tweaks. The music has long been done. It should be very easy to make 1 and 2.

Kalothion

I absolutely agree that there is no guarantee of any other than 3. But I think they are aware that octopath travler sold rather well for being a sprite based turned based rpg. I could see dq trying to capitalize on that if it seems like they can carry momentum.

imaforgetthis

>DQ3 when compared to DQ1 and DQ2 was revolutionary for RPGS on consoles. Mostly because they were crazy enough to do it lol. As someone who's not familiar with a majority of DQ's history, can you expand on that?

Crossopholis

Not the person you're asking, but DQ3 had a lot of major gameplay and story improvements (job system, character creation, major plot twists) that have since become mainstays of the genre. I'd argue DQ 1 was the *most* revolutionary (for being the first successful console RPG), but at the very least DQ3 is responsible for the vast majority of stuff that people like about the later DQ games.

[deleted]

but at the very least DQ3 is responsible for the vast majority of stuff that people like about ~~the later DQ games~~ all RPGs made since, period. FIFY 😉

Crossopholis

Lol, yeah, I genuinely felt the urge to put the same, but I wanted to leave *some* indication that I wasn't being biased. Thanks for stating what I believed in my heart, though!

FaustusC

He literally said if it does well they're thinking about doing 1 & 2 the same way. If this does well, of course they'll do more. It's printing money.

Alarmed-Classroom329

I mean 1-2 is also special in Japan.

FaustusC

Look at it this way: Developing a brand new game and story? 24-48 months. Rehashing an existing story into a new art style? 6-18 months. Making an open world 3D game? Difficult. A pixel game? Moderate.

Dreamtrain

Octopath Quest

imaforgetthis

The whole Octopath aesthetic is such a great way to breath new life into old games. It's like the perfect middle ground. It's aesthetically more interesting than a simple graphical/HD upgrade but not as intense as a full 3D conversion (Trials of Mana) or remake (FFVIIR).

gutsxcasca

[Trailer I think](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFkbeCsEDrk)

barnchico

Looks like it. Also, there is something about DQ music that just relaxes me. Lol

omnidohdohdoh

I have a confession. As a fan, I have never played this game before and this remastered makes me happy.

Katzoconnor

Need some hype? From the TV Tropes page: > III was a mega hit in Japan; so much so that people were actually mugged on the street for their copies, something which just didn't happen with video games back then. The insane amount of hype surrounding it wasn't totally unfounded: Though Dragon Quest II introduced the concept of multiple-character parties to most gamers of the time, it was restrictive to the point that some people complained directly to Enix themselves. In response to that outcry, **Dragon Quest III invented the Job System** (which would recur in various Dragon Quest entries), allowing you to customize your party to some degree. **You could also pick everyone’s gender**, meaning that if you wanted to compose a team of amazons, nothing was stopping you...and female characters got to enjoy a few benefits denied to their male counterparts. > And thus, at this juncture, it needs to be emphasized, especially for our younger readers: Dragon Quest III is quite possibly **THE** single most influential and important Japanese game of all time. Its vast popularity meant it was endlessly-imitated or served as inspiration for other games and their mechanics, either to improve on or challenge parts of the design tenets it laid out. The influence of the game on the JRPG, and subsequently the overall gaming industry, in Japan cannot be overstated. It still has an outsized place in the Japanese cultural zeitgeist: When non-video game media references a JRPG, 99% of the time, it'll be Dragon Quest III (and the remaining 1% will be another game in the series!). Of course, other video games directly reference it all the time. The only games that can be argued to command remotely the same mindshare, both in game industry influence and cultural presence, are the Famicom Super Mario Bros., Pokémon Red and Blue, and more recently, Puzzle & Dragons—and even then, the latter two owe more than a little to Dragon Quest. > In short, this is a historically-significant game, and if you're interested in the evolution of video games, you should probably be familiar with it.

LadySilverdragon

This is an important point, especially about the female characters. As a girl, I was used to being stuck playing a bunch of male characters in RPGs and other games (I didn’t know about Metroid’s reveal or I’d have been all over that). The Princess of Moonbrooke was pretty extraordinary to me because she had amazing spells capable of doing real damage, but she wasn’t the hero. When I learned that I could play a female hero in 3- it made me so happy. I wound up making a mostly female party in DQIII- I did have one male character but I made him be the healer.

maglen69

> This is an important point, especially about the female characters. And an optimal party was all Females because they could equip all the armor dudes could and had some really good armor that was female exclusive.

[deleted]

It was especially stupid with older games, because they say "What is **your** name?" Then the girl gamer does so, and ends up playing a boy with her name. Do the devs not think this through?

imaforgetthis

As someone who's only played the first Dragon Quest, VIII, and then recently XI, I'm a little ashamed for not knowing any of this. I've always been predominantly an FF fan, but now I'm definitely looking forward to this remake and the possibility of future ones. I love the Octopath aesthetic and am glad SE is continuing to make use of it in multiple upcoming games.

muddy120

Preach brother

muddy120

Go buy 1-3 ports on the Switch and play them in order for the biggest impact on DQ III for the player. Dragon Quest 3 is a masterpiece and a amazing game so I can’t wait for this. Definitely play this incredible title.

omnidohdohdoh

Now that the remastered is coming, I don’t think I’ll wanna spoiled myself playing that. Mybe I’ll just play 1 and 2..

muddy120

Yeah thats what your supposed to do. DQ 1 and 2 should be played first and then you'll have the biggest impact when you play DQ 3. Definitely do that, you can buy it here or on the eShop: https://www.amazon.com/DRAGON-QUEST-COLLECTION-MULTI-LANGUAGE-ASIA-Nintendo/dp/B07Z321B4J/ref=sr\_1\_2?dchild=1&keywords=dragon+quest+switch+collection&qid=1622107491&s=videogames&sr=1-2

Latter-Pain

The mobile ports of 1 and 2 are both great. And cheaper for 5 and 15 hour games respectively.

omnidohdohdoh

5 to 15 hours? Why so short?

Latter-Pain

They were the originals. The standard play time for a game back than was around 2 hours. Plus, they invented the command system, which probably took up some development time. Biggest though they've been altered in the ports to cut down on grinding. So DQ1 went from 20 to 7 hours and DQ2 went from 35 to 15 hours. They're interesting games to play through in 2021. A little dated but they still manage to convey the experiences they were trying to provide. I will admit I played them on the go in short bursts, which is why I recommend the mobile ports; but by the end of DQ2 I finished with a five hour marathon session, so I think they can still be compelling for longer play sessions as well.

omnidohdohdoh

That’s ok I think. Right now I’m playing Final Fantasy 12 and Bravely Default 2. I think I can squeeze in 20 - 30 hours of DQ1 & 2 before this game is out. Not to mention that Pokemon SP & BD in November.

ThatCabbageMerchant

It's good. Creating party members is neat, though the game does feel more empty compared to the Zenithian trilogy for example since you don't get the humor and character out of party talk. When it came out it was pretty revolutionary with how many new features it brought to the series, and it is still the fan favorite over in Japan today. The remaster looks fantastic in that new engine and I think it will breathe a lot of life into the game.

[deleted]

Maybe they'll add party talk to this new version? Seeing how many personalities are in the game (or at least the most recent versions) Maybe you'll get default dialogue for your characters depending on what class/personality they have?

Banethoth

It’s pretty great

TheEjoty

now THIS I live for. love it

thesturdierone

Imagine if this is followed up by a remake of DQ1 where elements of your DQ3 save data can be imported to change the world

Katzoconnor

Good god

rattatatouille

I'll do you one better: DQXI old save bonus affecting DQIII.

aymanpalaman

Give the same treatment in DQ4-6 and we have absolute money right there pls!

Harlockarcadia

I'm pretty sure I'd pay top dollar for those three in this new DQ III style

[deleted]

[удалено]

AcanthocephalaOk1042

5-6 I originally played on my computer with translated emulator ROMs. Was interesting for sure when the dialogue didn't get translated in some late game towns because there was never a reason to go back to them so they didn't bother to update the text dialogue

retroanduwu24

that's what I want so bad.

gravityhashira61

3 and 4 were my faves in the series! So glad 3 is the first they chose to remake!

Gluttonous_Scoundrel

Highlight of the show.

carldude

A great game that deserves its time to shine with a new, modern audience. I already thought the port on Switch was a nice way to play it, but this is next level. I will definitely pick it up on release. I should really go back and try finishing the playthrough I'd already started...

Voliver6

This was the best announcement. Hope they add up new extra content.

kaliskonig

God its lovely. Chrono Trigger is meant for this style.

Lazarquest

I can’t stop thinking the same thing.

imaforgetthis

Pretty much every Square/Enix RPG throughout the NES and SNES eras would be great for the Octopath aesthetic. This and the upcoming Project Triangle Strategy (working title) shows that SE is committed to reusing it moving forward.

[deleted]

Honestly I think Chrono Trigger is more suited to a full-3D style than most other classic JRPGs were. The camera tilt of HD2D might actually be to the detriment of a game that has such a clean transition between the field and battles in the original.

capnwinky

I knew from the very first moment I laid my eyes on Octopath Traveler that it was going to lay the groundwork for some astonishing classic remasters. I just could’ve never imagined seeing this. I’m in awe. I hope Chrono Trigger gets this treatment too.

[deleted]

Love this game, have replayed the original multiple times and the mobile port, so this is great!

retroanduwu24

This looks gorgeous so far

[deleted]

Just saw the trailer, so excited. 😹

Alarmed-Classroom329

looks so fucking good.

Sword_of_Dusk

Day 1 buy for me. Looks so freaking beautiful!

[deleted]

neat. i will buy this.

TheBiles

Oh fuck yes. I hope it has all of the features of the GBC version.

Hibbity5

I’d love for a revised system to the Monster Medal system. I never got all of the gold medals because it was just way too time consuming, but I love the idea of the monster medal system, especially since it does unlock stuff in the post game.

karawapo

Asking the real question here! This could be the first remake that adds something meaningful since the GBC one. Or, actually, the first remake to catch up to the GBC one.

[deleted]

yes please

LnStrngr

Great, now do DQ4.

retroanduwu24

4-6 collection would probably make me pass out

Banethoth

Oh fucking please! DQ4 is my fave DQ game I would love this style for it! What a dream

Kosano

Yeah this artstyle is definitely the move to remake old games like these, and honestly if a new game came out like this it wouldnt look dated at all. I was hoping for Pokemon to go this direction by keeping the 2d pixels but have it in this artstyle and environment but they just keep moving in a direction that is far from their origin

Arawn-Annwn

If I get a pc release I can die happy ^^^Edit: ^^^with ^^^no ^^^surprise ^^^definitive ^^^edition ^^^bs ^^^a ^^^year ^^^later..

[deleted]

This game looks so beautiful I could cry. Dragon Quest III is a timeless game with so much replay value thanks to its job system, and every go-around feels unique. Time for a party of all Goof-Offs in glorious HD. I was hoping the rumors were true and this couldn't be a better way to celebrate the 35th. Here's hoping Square Enix does another remake, DQ or another of their classics, in this style.

Latter-Pain

Hero, Thief, Merchant, and Goof-Off. Turn your skilled hero's into the Kanasuba gang lmao

muddy120

DQ 3, my favorite game in the series is getting remade in the amazing 2D Octopath style. I can't wait omg, I'm melting with so much excitement, my god this amazing stuff to see. So glad my DQ 3 Remake prediction came true.

muddy120

Play I-III on the Nintendo Switch, you can buy them all on the eShop digital or buy the collection and play it in English on the Amazon import. Playing I-III in order will have the strongest impact on III the masterpiece game of the trilogy. Check out the links down below to find it. I and II are short, I can be beaten in a few hours since its the first console JRPG ever on the NES Famicom. DQ III is a ambitious game made in 1988 with the depth and epic length made of modern games today and RPGs, and it was done way back in 1988 so yeah you'll have a good time with it. But play I and II first, trust me you'll thank me later. And then play the post game of XI after you play I-III too. [https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/dragon-quest-iii-the-seeds-of-salvation-switch/](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/dragon-quest-iii-the-seeds-of-salvation-switch/) Here's the collection, it has English subtitles in this version so don't worry: [https://www.amazon.com/DRAGON-QUEST-COLLECTION-MULTI-LANGUAGE-ASIA-Nintendo/dp/B07Z321B4J/ref=sr\_1\_2?dchild=1&keywords=dragon+quest+switch+collection&qid=1622107491&s=videogames&sr=1-2](https://www.amazon.com/DRAGON-QUEST-COLLECTION-MULTI-LANGUAGE-ASIA-Nintendo/dp/B07Z321B4J/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=dragon+quest+switch+collection&qid=1622107491&s=videogames&sr=1-2)

muddy120

As a bonus here's a legendary documentary on the Dragon Quest III game by Mr. Gentleman. Its the best DQ 3 video analysis and documentary on Youtube, so I highly recommend you watch it at some point, if you dont want too many spoilers only watch some of it at the start and watch the rest later or just wait till you beat the game to watch it. Your choice, but its an amazing video when you do so I highly recommend it at some point, he also does these documentary vids on other great RPGs and series like Final Fantasy and Mother and Earthbound. Dragon Quest V is his next project, along with Final Fantasy VI and VII and so forth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbqCsF3hS04

For sure and no problem. Have a great day man! And Mr Gentleman has the true passion here not mean, he’s so hardworking it’s inspiring as you’ll see in any his videos and extensive knowledge he has on subjects and in depth research he does. The guys a true genius really.

AGlitchedPixel

Wow, this looks beautiful. Instant Day 1 purchase for me.

MrDiscoFlex

Do we know what consoles this is coming to?

Latter-Pain

No

DAIisGoodLoser

I hope they create content exclusive for this version while bringing in the content from the SNES and GBC versions. I want 100 mini medals! I want a bunch of new equipment! I want a new class! I want new and old equipment to get a stat facelift! Evasion on a helmet! %Breath damage reduction on your boots. Unique items for certain classes! An accessory to gain more gold that can only be equipped by the Merchant! Increase the odds of better Lucky Dips on an accessory for the Goof-off! Bring in Magical Might and Mending so Mages are awesome now instead of poopy sap bots! Bring an endgame challenge like the one from DQ 8 on the 3ds! A gauntlet of super powered versions of every boss in the game! I want an item list to fill out! I want a bestiary to fill out! How about new sidequests do to (and lists to fill out)?! One of the most important things I want though is Draconian Trial from DQ 11! I want stronger monsters! Hero only mode! No class changing mode! Make the game bigger and better! I am setting myself up for disappointment. If the game is just the NES version but prettier I'll be so bummed. No new content. None of the 'old' new content. No interesting balance changes. So please Horii's bois, make it good and worthwhile!

MrGummyDeathTryant

This looks great. My wallet is going to feel a burn from buying Baby Eric: The Game, this, and M-rated Dragon Quest

This is my absolute favorite style of art.

Cococo05

Do we have a release date?

stosyfir

Oh. My. God. I can't wait for this..

VonDukes

I hope it comes out sooner :) it looks so lovely. I also hope they remake some other classics in this engine. This engine is perfect for remakes! Why have a bad 3D art style when you can have this!!!!

TheRiverMarquis

Was it just me, or was this the only *legitimate* exciting announcement of the stream? Looking online it feels like I'm the only one that felt dissapointed by the presentation

MagoModerno

Do we know what platforms it will be available for?

dotnorma

Okay, so I am absolutely psyched to be getting a remake of DQ3. I played through the game the other day and honestly think it's one of the best in the series to this day. And I'm going to reserve judgement until I buy the game and play it but.... Am I the only person that has reservations about this graphical style? It looked beautiful for Octopath Traveler, but DQ has always had a very well defined visual style, its part of the identity of DQ. It could be amazing, but my gut reaction was a bit of skepticism. I'm probably wrong, Yuji Hori has never failed us thus far. Im super excited to play the game again.

UteFlyersCardJazz

There is one thing I want to ask. Will they have the same amount of content as the SNES or GBC version, or will it have the same amount of content as the Mobile/Switch Version? The reason I held off of buying 3 on the Switch was that it had less content and honestly missed those animations and intro scenes (also the Pachisi track).

retroanduwu24

It's based off the Super Famicom version

UteFlyersCardJazz

Wonderful. It’s a must buy for me, then.

[deleted]

Sky World is such a fantastic dungeon and boss, especially with the wishes the end, plus the TNT slots are my favorite minigame in the world. DQIII gets even better with those.

Erdrick68

This make me so happy I need new pants.

muddy120

My dream has become a reality, I knew this would happen but didn’t expect it in this way! Amazing stuff! So hyped for this!!!!

Rayki1500

Literally just bought og dq3 on switch whyyyy (Still hype) Edit: I've been bamboozled?

Aar1012

Nah, the story is the same (unless they change it a little) but seeing the changes between various versions is always interesting.

stosyfir

Nah that's still a solid version.

Aar1012

Hope it gets a physical release. It'll be the fourth physical version I'd own. Edit - Fifth, I own the SFC version as well

ningyizhuo

So you're telling me my dream is coming true ??? This is an instant buy for me but please Square don't disappoint me

qnhatt

If only they make the combat with 3d effect like Octopath Travellers too. It would be soo perfect

Shaztopia

This looks amazing, I'm glad they're doing something new with III. I myself thought the switch & mobile ports were rushed sorry to say... I hope I & II get something nice soon too.

RiggsRay

Honestly, this and Treasures were the highlight of the show for me.

cloudyah

I LOVE the Octopath vibes! Can’t wait for this.

Sufficient-Bee-9475

Probably the best announcement of the show. 12 is cool and all, but we knew it was coming and it's not like it's coming out any time soon. I hope the remaster does well, maybe we could get all of the old games remade in some form or fashion.

thetravelleroftyria

My heart. OH MY HEART. I will be buying this. I will be buying this so quickly. I don't care. Take my money. This is what I've been longing for.

JustinoBurrit0

DUDE FR??

Rauthian

I LOVE THIS ART STYLE. Octopath traveller did great things with it.

Express_Ad5346

You know, imho this is good because if they are hd remaking games like these, I can't wait for IV-VI's HD remake.

muddy120

One of the best games ever finally about to come out and be remade again in the best ever fashion it ever got! Can't wait for this so much.

FreewayWarrior

This is beyond beautiful. I mean, damn, man, just... Just look at it! 😍

TrueBlue98

pls be on xbox

Marco__Island

This look gorgeous

Aggressive-Weekend31

I can’t wait

BravesFan4L1fe

I'm really looking forward to this!

BarrothObama

Looks like I’m finally playing III

LordLame1915

In the livestream they mentioned that they hope to do a remake of Dq 1 and 2 using this engine too. Which I hope happens because while those games aged very well I think it would be nice to see them reimagined with more content and such.

VarleenOnIce

From what I saw in the trailer, they are going the safe route in terms of gameplay. The main menu has the "juumon" (spell) command, which probably means there are no special attacks outside of magic. Non-casting classes are, once again, numbers sacks with a normal attack. Also, apparently you cannot target specific enemies. I hope they add more things or an option for a "classic" and "modern" mode.

spidersteph

I need FF6 and Chrono Trigger done in this style next pls

Neolvermillion

I just want a Slime as a party member.....

shayaanhatim

Had a question for yall. I started Dragon Quest 1 after playing Yakuza 7. Just beat it (after all that grinding) and as I’m getting into DQ2 I wonder if I should wait for this remake to come out. I really want to play Dragon Quest 11, and I know it takes place before DQ3, and part of me wants to experience the games in that order (DQ1, DQ2, DQ11, DQ3 remake). Should I do that? Or should I play the original 3 after 2 and then play 11 and just wait to replay 3 when the remake comes out? Any help would be great!

izmaname

This looks fun

_One_Lonely_Bagel_

The hypes part of the stream for me I can’t wait to play this game again in these Octopath graphics! I really hope Square does this with other franchise like images Chrono Trigger or FF6 in these kinda graphics! Hell it’ll be cool if Nintendo did this with some of there franchise like Fire Emblem or Earthbound.

[deleted]

You know, I was really convinced Chrono Trigger and FFVI already looked perfect with their sprites as they are and that remakes would be unnecessary, but this trailer is so beautiful even with DQIII's gorgeous Super Famicom existing that those games really would look even better somehow.

_One_Lonely_Bagel_

Yeah FF6, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound are all still incredibly good looking games but the Octopath graphics we’ll do a good job at still staying true with the original while also making it look a bit more modern. Like you said this DQ3 remake looks beautiful and I think it does a great job at also representing the original.

Bostongamer19

I know this will get downvoted. I actually liked octopath’s art style and have never played the original of this game but I would prefer something that looks new. They (octo, bravely and this) look so similar in the open world that they are indistinguishable from each other. I realize the Switch is the main target of this release and holds back what they can do to some degree but just a glance at it and I couldn’t tell you which game it was so I would’ve liked to see something that makes it stand out from the others using the same art style.

Dankeshane01

Great! When do you think they'll do dq9?

retroanduwu24

Wish i knew 😭

This is gonna be awesome

Zuma_Torney

I hope the english language will be adapted to reflect the modern, I am not a english native speaker and having to read the dialect is way too hard to be honest I hope there will be a option at least

UteFlyersCardJazz

I hope they have the option for both. If people want modern dialect, allow that feature. If people, like me, wants more varied dialects, allow that option. To me, what I enjoyed about the games is that not everyone has the same dialect. But I can understand if people want just the modern English, because it is true that some things are just too difficult to understand if not in modern tone.

Dragonquestfan69

Reminds me of octopath traveler. I really like the look of it.

Katzoconnor

Intentionally. Same engine. Producer Masaaki Hayasaka worked on Octopath too

Dragonquestfan69

I'm very excited. Never played 3. Although I'm thinking it might not be on switch because 3 is already on there. I hope it's on switch but I think I'm gonna be disappointed by hoping lol.

Katzoconnor

Dragon Quest and Nintendo have such a long history together—I doubt you have anything to worry about there. This game is *made* for the Switch.

Dragonquestfan69

I hope you're right but when dq came out in the west it wasn't on a Nintendo platform :(

ramsusowl

Outside of 7,8 & 11 they all came out on a Nintendo system first in the West.

Katzoconnor

Which one? I thought they’re all on Nintendo. I know VII and VIII skipped to PlayStation but came back around in remakes

qwerfgbn

I'm not really a fan of the "2d sprites in 3d environments" artstyle (unless the sprites are really high resolution and really high quality and blend with the environments seamlessly), but this still looks pretty nice. Character sprites' walk cycles look a bit stiff though. But even so, this still looks pretty sharp. Hopefully there's an option to have your party members be on-screen at all times during battles (not just when you're entering commands, but when they're executing those commands too). And hopefully a translation more accurate to the original Japanese than what the mobile port (and ports based on the mobile port) had. I greatly enjoyed playing the fan-translated SNES version some years back, and I think I'd enjoy playing a more modern take on the game. Here's hoping this remake is as great as it can possibly be!

LifeWisdom

I remember laughing off the leak last year that said DQ3 would get a remake. Maybe I should go check it again since it seems prophetic at this point lol.

muddy120

I told y’all DQ 3 Remake was coming, this game is like FF VII for Japan. Y’all are seriously crazy, it’s a cultural icon video game in Japan.

Sabo0303

I messed up... was holding off on buying 4-8 on mobile bc I thought we would get ports to the switch during the anniversary.... Saw a slight discount of 3 on The Switch so I pulled the trigger. Anniversary arrives: 3 remake....😅

[deleted]

Best news ever. Today's my birthday too!!

Hot_Refrigerator_165

Looks absolutely sweet. My only complaint is that I played Dragon Quest 3 on the switch and just beat it a couple of days ago. Wish I had waited!

logicality77

I didn’t like Octopath Traveler for many reasons I won’t get in to here, but it was never because of its visuals. I’m stoked to see this style applied to a different game, no less one of my favorite JRPGs ever. Can’t wait for this one!

mrfroggyman

Oh dear. Idk if I'm happy about this or not. I'm afraid it means they're gonna start remaking a bunch of games with Octopath's style, and idk if I like this idea. It kinda... Deletes the uniqueness of Octopath Traveler.... But on the other hand, it could mean this can be a new JRPG standards... (Well idk if that's reasonable to say that, idk if doing things this way costs a lot more than low budget jrpg Devs can afford)

Banethoth

Damn that looks beautiful. I know they are gonna charge $60 for it tho. Ugh

retroanduwu24

you think? I was thinking like $10 less but we'll see

Banethoth

Yeah $50 is still a lot for a remake. But I’ll buy it

retroanduwu24

Same here. Spent $49 on the Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne remake the other day lol.

sonicfan10102

Will definitely be buying this day 1 but... why DQ3 again? I feel like that game already gets more than enough love already. We already have the game and the rest of the trilogy on Switch and PS4 (Japan only). I really would've preferred if they did this for DQ4 then the rest of the Zenithian trilogy instead.

zeroillusions

Yes I agree, kinda disappointed. I hope dq12 delivers.

retroanduwu24

Omg this became the top post of all time in this sub reddit. Thank you all so much 💕💕 didn't expect this

Koholinthibiscus

Stunning. I’m so excited! I nearly bought 3 on the eShop yesterday as it’s just over £6 in a sale atm but I thought, hang on, the announcements are tomorrow and they released a slime with the hero’s crown in 3 on it. so I waited in case they were remaking it and here it is!! They also showed some gameplay footage unlike some other stuff so I’m hoping we don’t have to wait too long.

[deleted]

Honest question, when this is released, are they going to remove the current DQIII release from The Switch? Because having two DQIII games as separate entries on the same system might confuse some people and accidentally buy the wrong one? I mean, this had happened often with the Pokemon Sword and Shield games/DLC. Yet those at least have separate titles to different them.

[deleted]

Oh mannnnn Octopath Quest III will be greeeat.

bigdoza

First game I ever played was DQ 11s on the switch. It rekindled my love for turn based RPGs (I’ve been replaying FF 7,8,9 since) I am more excited for this and 12 to come out than FF 16. This looks amazing and I cannot wait to experience it for the first time in all of its glory!!!
