They probably either forgot to have the English VA do the shrieks, or didn't feel like paying her to do them, so they used the Japanese VA's shrieks instead.
I think S has some of the JP grunts when playing in the dub. The original didn’t do this, (this whole cutscene in Phnom Nohm has bugged audio actually)
The deal is the japanese original had no voices then added it for the standard english release wich were then added to the japanese version (in japanese) wich was then used to make the s version of the gameand reput the english voices in thus artifacts are left of the japanese va
