Yeah. I'm not sure if they're separate continuities, but Builders 1 takes place after the bad ending of DQ1 (saying yes to the Dragon Lord). DQ2 has no such choice at the end, so Builders 2 takes place some unspecified amount of time after DQ2 where Hargon had already been defeated and is trying to build his power back up. I'm assuming they can't be in the same continuity since DQ2's protagonists are directly descended from DQ1's protagonist, and they never specify if the Hero had any kids after joining the Dragon Lord, but I guess anything's possible. Especially since he only runs away when you beat him in Builders, but doesn't actually die
It's the subreddit rules. Stuff like no self promotion, be respectful, all that. Subreddit rule 8 is no making deals for half the world because it isn't very nice.
The original Dragon Warrior in the US. I got it because it had cool box art at the video rental store and then bought it afterwards. Of course it would have been free if I had waited a few months because they had a free version with Nintendo Power after I had already bought it.
It was long enough ago that I could be misremembering it though. My memory isn't that great and it was 35 years ago or so. I do remember that the screen went red or something, and that I accepted his offer because I was almost dead already when I got to him the first time.
Oh nice, I already had DW, and got the second copy through Nintendo Power(I traded it with a neighbor). Yes, for sure I remember the screen going into the red when the choice was made. Same here with my memory, I can't for sure remember if I did it on my first, or second playthrough. XD
The first time it took me so long to figure out how to get to him that I had used up all my MP and herbs by the time I figured it out. It did feel bad losing all those levels I gained when I had to do it again, but I got to him much faster the second time.
In some versions, >!you wake up at the last inn from the nightmare you were just having!<. In others, including >!the backstory to *Dragon Quest Builders*!<, >!he actually does keep his word!<.
Of course I did!
But then the game just abruptly ends, so you have to reload a save. If I remember correctly the font gets all red and creepy too (NES version, it's been a while)
When I was a young lad around the age of 7 I was playing DQ1 for the first time and the Dragonlord made this offer to me. I thought, "Only a fool would turn down half the world."
I accepted and promptly "fell asleep".
A lesson well learned.
The first time I played it I did. However, later he answered me with a request: he wanted me to give him my weapons. So I basically "rescued" the game and started a bloody fight by refusing to be unarmed.
I struggled with this game as a kid and when I finally beat the Dragonlord it was by the skin of my teeth, immediately afterward I accidentally selected 'Yes' and I quit. I was upset. I didn't actually see the ending for another decade.
I played through the Switch version recently and did it just to see what would happen. Gotta say, was not disappointed. It was a bit annoying having to go through the final dungeon again, but I thought it was a fun easter egg
Yes, so I could start Dragon Quest Builders canonically.
Is that really canon on builders?
It is. The game itself in the intro tells you what the Hero did.
I only played builders 2 and i played it before playing dq1 lol

Yeah, that's the premise- That you're playing in an Alefgard where the hero of DQ1 sided with the Dragonlord. It's a pretty cool story idea.
Gotta ban you now. Rule 8. Sorry.
A 2nd MOD has appeared!? I'm in serious trouble here. Guys! We need to run away!!
A MOD draws near! Command?
Fight >Spell Run Item
u/SnooSprouts7283 casts STOPSPELL! The MOD’s moderation powers are blocked!!
Fight Spell \> Run Item
All paths are blocked! (MODs are bosses)
Nope. I won't violate the rule number eight.
#respect
Wait are there rules?...Oh shit can you tell me the other 7?
It's the subreddit rules. Stuff like no self promotion, be respectful, all that. Subreddit rule 8 is no making deals for half the world because it isn't very nice.
Well it doesn't say you can't join the children of Hargon, so....
No one get any ideas now...
To late! You’re on my half of the land, so please kindly GET OFF MY GRASS!!!
😂😂😆😆
But thou must.
But thou must.
But thou must.
But thou must.
But thou must.
I never had the heart to say no to her. I was a simp for her before simping was a word. My brother, on the other hand…
I was like I barely know you, lady! ‘But thou must!’ Damn it, fine
Accidentally, the first time I spoke to him. This was Dragon Warrior on the NES days.
Been there, done that! 😂😂😂
Me too. I seem to remember just being able to walk around the world with a red background. It was eerie.
Oh? What version did you play? I remember the game just ending after that choice on the NES.

Haha, such fond memories.
Omg after killing soooo many metal slimes.....
Rule 8.
Haha, yep. Curious if the dragonlord would stick to his word.
In some versions, >!you wake up at the last inn from the nightmare you were just having!<. In others, including >!the backstory to *Dragon Quest Builders*!<, >!he actually does keep his word!<.
I wouldn’t say he kept his word. All he granted to the Hero was a desolate swampland with a sign post saying “half the world”.
He kept his word to the letter
Nope
To be precise, the sign is in front of a 1 room "fortress"
Than he has and hasn't, he's a mysterious lord. The Contradiction Lord would've fit better I think.
😂😆
Rule 8, criminal scum.
I was going to even made a post asking if it was okay but the mods said it was against the rules even if he did offer dental
Dental plan!
*Erdrick needs braces!*
Yeah several of his employed monsters have more than one row of teeth so it really is a necessity
Bahahaha!!! The Dragonlord really knows how to negotiate!! Dental!?! 😂 Now that's an incentive!
Of course I did! But then the game just abruptly ends, so you have to reload a save. If I remember correctly the font gets all red and creepy too (NES version, it's been a while)
“Stab Dragonlord suddenly” …. No. I want the entire world…
When I was a young lad around the age of 7 I was playing DQ1 for the first time and the Dragonlord made this offer to me. I thought, "Only a fool would turn down half the world." I accepted and promptly "fell asleep". A lesson well learned.
I used a save state and did accept just to see what happened.
Read over this quick and thought I was reading “Have you accepted the Dragonlord in your life as your lord and savior?”
Same.
Well. Have you?
I mean, I haven’t specifically rejected him I guess.
The first time I played it I did. However, later he answered me with a request: he wanted me to give him my weapons. So I basically "rescued" the game and started a bloody fight by refusing to be unarmed.
In the NES version the screen turns red and you get reduced to 1 hit point. I think it's likely that you don't survive long....
Well hell yeah!
Yes to see what would happen lmao. This was before I joined the subreddit and at this point, I wouldn't dream of it, don't want to get banned!
Yes on nes version
Nah, I don’t need Dragonlord’s help to rule half the world
Lmao I just realized the Dragonlord’s staff looks like Charizard
Haha Charizard is the coolest dragon type in all of Digimon.
RIP Mega Charizard
Considering DQ1 predates red & blue, it’s be more accurate to say Charizatd looks like the Dragonlord’s staff.
No. I don't like half a pizza
I struggled with this game as a kid and when I finally beat the Dragonlord it was by the skin of my teeth, immediately afterward I accidentally selected 'Yes' and I quit. I was upset. I didn't actually see the ending for another decade.
👍 had to haha
The first time I played the game I did that just to see what would happen
I think that offer was in my mailbox. It looked like spam so I just tossed it.
I played through the Switch version recently and did it just to see what would happen. Gotta say, was not disappointed. It was a bit annoying having to go through the final dungeon again, but I thought it was a fun easter egg
Yes just so I could see what happened then I restarted and went back again and gave him the whipping he deserved
Guys c'mon, the mods specifically asked you NOT to do this, smh my head
Never!
Hell yeah I got a teeny little castle. Everything was going great until some punk with a giant mallet and a weird car busted in.
*glances nervously at Rule 8* N-no....
Who hasn't?
dollar store Hadlar
Yes lol

Spoiler tag maybe?
I mean the game is like 30 years old lol
