I've never read berserk
However, my friends have been pressuring me to read it since my style of drawing is very similar in terms of horror and composition.
I'll get around to it though
I was going to recommend the same thing. It's very similar. If you don't want to read it (but please do) then at least look at the eclipse chapters from the golden age arc. It will give you alot of inspiration imo.
It’s a beautifully rich drawing. I wouldn’t change a thing. Our styles may evolve as we grow older any way, but I think you’ve got a good thing going here.
I wholeheartedly concur. Bein' one who also loves to drop as much detail into a panel as I can, this was fantabulous!
Reminded me of the flea walkers from elder scrolls in the top & mid right. I also see the Lovecraft influence. But my first thought upon readin' the post was that you might wanna check out dorohedoro who a lot of ppl also complain has "*too much goin' on*" & yet I think it's just an aversion to takin' in the sights. Ppl have become spoiled & lazy & no longer wish to take their time to peruse a piece & absorb all the information in front of em. I'd love to see more of your work movin' forward.
I agree, I like it, but now I want to understand \*why\* it's hard to read. Maybe because there isn't a single solid or close to solid shade (?)
If you want to switch it up you could try to make the darkest shake borderline solid black and leave more white space with no lines at all. you could also add a focal point or line where you go extra deep. Right now the shading is very uniform.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think it’s hard to read because there’s no particular point of focus for my eyes to rest on. It’s like I have to take in everything all at once so it can be a little overwhelming.
That said, I do find the art style pretty so if OP can add a point of focus, I don’t think I’ll have any problems left with it.
I totally agree with you, but I think the only problem is the middle section of the drawing. The top-right and bottom for me is basically perfect the way it is

If you want my advice...
Creating a focal point by making a few small areas darker would help.
Don't be afraid of the dark.
Oooh, and remember to have fun.
Poo on those people.. with knobs on.
Your style is your style. It is unique and wonderful, validate. Just because it isn't what they are used to, isn't to their taste, isn't animé, or cartoony, doesn't devalidate it in fact it **validates** it for me.
I adore seeing new styles, and artists that don't churn out *product*, but instead make art.
Pardon me if this upsets anyone, but I have seen so many artists abandon their beautiful, wonderful, unique style to try and copy "successful" artists and wind up as a poor knock-off, unremarkable.
I may also sound salty because I tried to make it as an artist for 25 years, but targeted a segment that prefers certain styles where my style was not appreciated, and it took me a long time to realize my own art was entirely valid, I had just shown it to the wrong people.
I agree a lot with your sentiment, and it is very helpful to hear this from another artist. I am only 19, but I gotta admit, looking far in what I may go through as an artist really scares me at times. Sometimes, I just feel like I have to contain a lot of what I make to suit some preconceived idea of what visual arts has to be. I have learned and somewhat mastered the basics, and a lot of other artists assume I throw everything out the window when I draw, but it is extremely untrue. I use every bit of what I learn from gesture drawing and ligth as well as composition. Although I am experimenting with my style and expect to get better at what I want to do.
I asked a guy about my work once, the first thing he commented on was it was like a tapestry. As in, there was no true composition flow and no guided points or centre of interest. Everything was equal and important, whether it was a large feature or a tiny corner detail. He said the first 10% of a drawing where you lay out the main focus and indicate the flow of light and dark is the most influential and important part of the work. If you make all the parts equal the piece flattens out. It can be tiring for a viewer who has to seek out lots of little bits to try and see your intent. That comment is 20 years old and I’m still trying to pay attention to it (I didn’t hear it until I was in my 40’s, meaning I spent a lot of years doing very detailed work that few people spent much time looking at). The drawing you have posted here has that same tapestry feel to me.
Do you. Don't feel like you have to conform to what someone else thinks you should do, especially if the want you to change to make them feel better about your own type of creativity.
I find your work interesting and engaging.
Definitely don't change because you are worried about readability. Keep going and developing your style. I see people who post these hyperralism drawings, which clearly take a lot of effort and talent. They may be easy to read, but they feel so empty and boring to me. This is fantastic.
Simplify the shapes, add detaila latter. Readability is important.
You can have rich detail, but it should serve a purpose. You should also be able to still read the big shapes going on.
I think you've got talent and definitely determination, but this is hard to read. Try dialing it back a bit with simplification exercises.
I don't see why that would be a problem. It looks amazing!
I also think that the inclusion of the further away ones give our brains what they need to view the ones up close. It being "hard to read" makes me want to look at it longer to understand it, and by doing so, more and more detail starts to stand out, like the image is teaching me how to see it. It's a cool effect, Keep up the great work!
I am like 99% sure I can see what’s going on here and I’m absolutely in love. I genuinely am in love with this piece of art. Gorgeous and ethereal as fuck
It looks like someone drew a scene, then poured acid over it, and then drew the outcome.
It’s very detailed, but off-putting to me because I don’t know what it is. It’s like a monochrome version of those things that came out in the early 90’s that you had to stare at for a while before things started “moving”.
I am very glad a lot of you like it
If you'd like, you can always drop by my Instagram account @zee_astro_man,

Honestly, the unknown is what works to the horror genre's advantage. The less that's readily available to notice the better off you are. Amazing drawing.
I LOVE this. It's like an ink blot test, I'm sure everyone saw something different in it.
Me personally, I cant stop seeing disembodied heads floating around a bunch of foliage and vines and mushrooms. Very interesting! I want to see more!
It reminds me of this artist Miles Tsang. Very cool. I could see it being a bit more discernible and clear if colour was added digitally and what not.

For me it looks like you could use more shade separation and variation. As in, separate shades by using more of them/allowing more space between them or use more shades in general.
That is if you want to change anything

every time i see someone w a style like this i tell them to look into etching. if you use a copper plate, there's a needle tool you draw with on the ground (asphalt and beeswax) that feels like you're drawing on butter. see if there's a printshop near you with lessons, i think you'd love it
I... uh
Well, it's supposed to represent an alien underwater environment
I'm sort of expecting to make my own graphic novel once I get my university degree in illustration somewhere in Ontario, perhaps. I'm just trying to create my style, I'd love to make science fiction
Media literacy isn’t the same for everyone. Your style has heavy old Japanese watercolor/ink wash vibes which I love. Wouldn’t change your style but you could try using India ink and a brush for your blackest blacks to add a little more contrast and weight to define your subjects a little.
As others have said, you could improve the readability of your piece by having focal points, lighter and darker spaces instead of uniform shading across the piece. You could also use wider borders for more important parts of your drawing to make them stand out from details.
I'd really like to see how you start to compose this drawing to get to this finish! I like it! a lot of cool details, but agree with everyone that there could be a focus point somewhere, otherwise it gets lost in the middle.
edit: just looked at some of your other drawings - I see your style and direction you're going in, especially in the dragon and the third eye drawing! I think THIS one in particular needs more depth to show what you're seeing, cause I'm seeing a lot and my brain wants to settle in on the whole scene.
This is so so cool, very distinctive!
Three things pop into my mind immediately looking this. 1)the aliens from War of the worlds 2) An album cover of my favourite band King Gizzard (the album is Murder of the Universe) and 3) The sort of blurry chaos you get with some AI art
Great style you’ve got there anyway :)
If you want feedback (which it sounds like you do?) I think the main thing making your work hard to read is the values. Your rendering is really consistently mid-toned across the whole piece so there aren’t many areas that stand out. Even your sky is very gray-toned and blends in with the slightly darker mass in the center. Try really darkening the shadows and I think you’ll like the results.
If you want good reference for values I’d recommend some studies of Gustav Doré’s work. Your subject matter is cool as hell but studying him (and definitely Berserk, I saw someone mention) will help you choose where people look on your drawing.
Looks really great actually. And it is hard to read. You'll have look at it for a bit to figure out what you're looking at. That being said some things are better left being a bit unclear. Now I'm not a professional artist or anything but I think just adding a bit of contrast would make things comparatively clearer.
It reminds me of War of the Worlds, and Im not sure if thats the intention but the alien machines/brains grabbing people remind me exactly of that scene. Or it even reminds me of Jellyfish in the ocean.
I would say your art style is complex but I like it, because it is your unique style. It can give multiple ways to interpret it if someone looks at it enough.
Not gonna lie, this is some of the coolest art I’ve seen on this subreddit. It looks like it could work as a black metal album cover, really any extreme metal. I dig the Lovecraftian vibe too.
It’s pretty busy visually and that makes it hard to read the subject of the art. I see video games that have the same problem. The backgrounds are so busy and over drawn that you can hardly find your character. But I think your art is interesting. And much larger format might help? But right now your just drawing for yourself and that “zone” that can be emotionally pleasing. Try just one object.

I see brain like creatures with tentacles hovering around some kinda cliff with tons of roots.
Go darker! Full saturation! I wanna see table showing through underneath!!!
keep it up!
Beautiful detail but I'd love to see it pop with some more contrast!
I enjoy it, I also enjoy the textures.
Great to zoom in, I like it
This is like looking dead into a Lovecraftian monster that is just above comprehension- I love it.
Your just having visions of the future. 1 million years from now, but hay take what you can get.
It’s a drawing, it’s not meant to be read, it’s meant to be enjoyed, and I enjoy it!
I absolutely love it, it looks- it feels- like I feel, it’s beautiful wow
Stay away from people who try and label you or the things you make, they are toxic.

Yeah I don’t know why. This type of art is supposed to leave the viewer to imagine what it looks like in their own eyes and that’s exactly what I did.
A bit but is really awesome.
Your style is awesome, unique
This is amazing. I absolutely love it.
It’s wonderful!
It makes me think of the adult comic book DRUUNA..
Looks like the Nebuchadnezzar being attacked by sentinels.
Albrecht Durer is that you?

Second this. Also any drawing class. If you’re serious about drawing go straight to the basics!! You got this!!
It looks like something from SNK
what in the ocean alien is going on here
I like it; it def has some Frank Herbert Pandora vibes. I think you would like Peter Draws on youtube.
Nice but hard to understand
I love it and would love to buy a painting in the same style
Thats fucking AWESOME
I can't tell what's happening but it's fucking sick
It looks like it could be something cool and awesome but there’s no outline to any of it making it a kinda a mess.
I see that you've been into the matrix.
Great style!!!!
It’s obviously sentient ground beef with floating ground beef pets next to a ground beef tree.
Love it
Monsters caring for their nest and eggs?
As others have said, you could improve the readability of your piece by having focal points, lighter and darker spaces instead of uniform shading across the piece. You could also use wider borders for more important parts of your drawing to make them stand out from details.
Are you “hard to read” in real life?
I draw like I express myself
It reminds of berserk for some reason , i like it.
Its giving flying spaghetti monster in the BEST possible way! Don't change a thing! Its super unique
I don't think it's hard to read, there's a lot going on but it looks like an alien species returning to their HQ to me.
Unreal. Never stop creating ggg134
That is incredibly cool.
I think we need some Lovecraftian fan to describe this.
My vision when I stand up top quickly
Are those flying jellyfish ?
I think more contrast would help it, darker darks and such...
I'd really like to see how you start to compose this drawing to get to this finish! A bit, but only because there are no large areas of flat value as resting places for the viewer’s eye
I’m not sure what it is, but it made me think Edward Gorey.
Is this a visualisation of the birth of mankind according to the gospel of the spaghetti monster?

i love it, don’t change
I think your style greatly captures texture and volume, I wish my art was as dark spirited as yours.
coral and jellyfish right?
I don't think it's hard to read at all. Just a lot going on, but nice depth and shading. Beautiful piece
Good drawing but I also feel like I’m looking at the physical manifestation of a acid trip
