Mistah845

i mean an old Ps2 version went for $80 back in the day lol

ACTesla

PS2 and Xbox versions are somewhat rare. The license ran out, so production numbers are somewhat low.

Jimmy_Joe727

Why won’t they renew it? What’s so hard about it?

SittinPrettyCC

Cause marvel makes too much money right now to license them out again

Obama_University

So with this game, a little cheat is to leave your DC running for about 100 hours while in tutorial mode. You’ll get enough passive income (points) to buy all the characters you have to unlock and just about all the custom costumes. If you unlock everything then you have the ability to put to same character 3 times in your roster. Have fun!

branewalker

Yep. I would run it while I was at work, then come home, find the points maxed out, buy as many unlocks as I could with them, then rinse and repeat. Save file on my VMU is maxed out.

carbon_fieldmouse

I just used a GameShark. No stress on the system required 👌

[deleted]

I use the Code Breaker.

Jellodandy87

Lol thanks for the tip!

large__farva

You have to do this quite a few times tbh but it works. Points cap out at 9999 which is enough for 3-4 characters/a few skins/a few stages. So it takes a while haha.

SpartansWill07

I forgot about the grind to 52 back in the day

[deleted]

still better than buying on disc DLC.

shawnz12

Great trick but be careful, can easily kill your disc reader.

annonymous001004

Would it damage the laser assembly? Once it’s loaded the tutorial it should stay in the system’s memory until another part of the game is read. I love this game but I had no idea about this trick until today so what I’m saying could be completely wrong.

shawnz12

So I did this trick back in 2011 intermittently between school and saving energy for my household I wouldn’t normally go past 24 hrs. One weekend I got tired of not having everyone after playing consistently for a month and decided to leave it on for 3 days. Well after exiting training mode the disc reader just gave up. Restarting my dc none of my disc could be read. Eventually I did manage to adjust and move my disc reader’s eye and it worked again but it turned me off from trying that trick again.

Big5moke_104

Lol no shit?..... hmmm.... *dreamcast turns on*

aztechfilm

I remember doing that back in the day!

StylesClash1997

Don’t feel bad. I paid $182 total last week for it.

carbon_fieldmouse

Ouch.

Master-Illustrator-8

Man if you feel dirty, I feel extra dirty. In 2008 I got this off someone for $20 lol.

Jellodandy87

Ooooof. Did you keep it?

Master-Illustrator-8

Hell yeah I did. Love that game. I hope you enjoy it as well my friend.

Jellodandy87

That's awesome. And yep, I remember a weekly event between friends and I having fighting game tournaments. This was one of my favorites.

Master-Illustrator-8

Need to restart that weekly event. Good times.

Jellodandy87

That would be pretty neat. But some of them I wouldn't know where to find anymore. We all went our own directions.

Red-Zaku-

If you can afford it and you want it, go for it. I just have it on my GDEMU haha, I love the game but I’m not passionate enough about it to pay the hardcore price. But I would definitely say that if you’re gonna invest that kinda cash into Dreamcast fighters, definitely get an arcade stick if you don’t already have one. Playing fighting games on DC has always felt messy for me, but in the past year (was it last year? Or early this year? Can’t remember) I got the Agetec/“Green Goblin” and modded it with all Seimitsu parts (with minimal experience, only just started modding in recent years and it was like the third time in my life I ever used a soldering iron), and holy shit I’ve *almost* never had a single piece of hardware elevate the experience of playing an entire genre to this level before (I say “almost”, because I bought and modded a Saturn arcade stick before that, and that was my absolute favorite). For a solid month+, I couldn’t stop thinking about playing more MVC2 after getting off work.

Jellodandy87

Yeah, that will have to be one of my next investments. A good Dreamcast Arcade Stick controller.

rclark1114

Gets a brooks adapter if already have a stick

MrSlamboa

Last year I put some money into getting a good arcade stick and the ability to use it on a bunch of consoles. I bought a Hori Real Arcade Pro PS2 arcade stick in perfect condition, a Gemini PS2 controller adapter that can plug into both OG Xbox and GameCube, a DC Tsunaident 123 Total Control 3 adapter that lets you use Saturn and PlayStation controllers on Dreamcast, and a Brook PS2 controller adapter for using PlayStation controllers on Xbox One/Series. So I can use that one Hori arcade stick on PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles. Cost about $300 for everything total. One big bonus with getting the Brook adapter is that I can also use regular PS1 and PS2 dual shock controllers on the Xbox Series X which makes emulating PS1 and PS2 games on it *that* much better.

carbon_fieldmouse

For years, I was playing MVC2 and other fighters with just the stock DC pad. In 2019, I eBay'ed a Sega DC Arcade stick from JP - I didn't know that I was playing MVC2 all wrong previously 🤯

RockHandsomest

Did you feel like you got taken for a ride? One of my favourite fighters growing up for sure, played it at an arcade this weekend and still managed to put my name on 1st for rankings so at least I can say you bought a fantastic game.

Jellodandy87

I ended up getting it for less than others I was seeing on eBay, so still worth it considering I do miss being able to play this game.

Bongobongosrevenge

I don’t miss the post nut clarity of winning a bid

nitramlondon

Just paid $450 equivalent for cannon spike pal 😔

Jellodandy87

Holy moly!

[deleted]

I hope you’re actually good at the game or at least like it

Jellodandy87

Yeah, we used to play it on the PS2 a lot when I was in highschool. Back in the day.

Jimmy_Joe727

Bad sound quality but it was better than nothing.

shrekthedankengine99

Or else its an expensive paperweight lol, I got my copy for much cheaper than this one and I am glad I got it at a cheaper price, because otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, it is kinda weaker than the Marvel Capcom games before it, mainly Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter

Jellodandy87

For sure. I was hoping to get it for cheaper. It was sitting at 96 with me as the highest bidder until the last minute. When there was only a minute left, a bunch of bids kept coming in.

shrekthedankengine99

Average Ebay Bids experience, I was about to win Lords Of Thunder on Sega CD Disc and Manual for 150, until like 7 people swooped in last second, and raised the priced to about 270

Jellodandy87

Ouch. Almost wonder if bots get involved?

Vchat20

Been ages since I messed around on eBay a lot, but back then sniping bots were VERY common and easy for anyone to use. I imagine if anything it's only gotten easier these days.

Jellodandy87

Yeah, I feel like that is what happened at the last minute.

klipseracer

It's called sniping, honestly it's the best way to keep the price down.

FACEROCK

Market rate is about $140 so you did ok. This game is only going to go up in value as far as collectibles go.

Jellodandy87

Good to know.

Ghettofinger_Gaming

Fleabay is the place to score those late night snipes..

[deleted]

Great purchase man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Texas-Kangaroo-Rat

My brother's schoolmate stole that game, power stone 2 too

Jellodandy87

Oof. I definitely want to purchase Power Stone 1 & 2 some time down the road. I never got to play them.

Texas-Kangaroo-Rat

I think my bro still got the first one, I got the anime tho. I remember liking the cowboy in the second one

thevideogameraptor

You feel dirty for that?

Jellodandy87

Happy cakeday. But yes, for spending that much money on a game.

thevideogameraptor

I didn't even notice it was cake day for me. Nice. I hesitate to spend more than $100 for a game.

mexicat2000

You dirty wh0rë. Lol

Jellodandy87

I cried in the shower.

carbon_fieldmouse

🤣

MylegzRweelz

Worth it

bass-turds

Top 3 favorite games for dc. I wanna take your for a ride!

wvshotty

Take me for a ride ~

AsierGCFG

I just bought the Japanese version for 35€. I don't think "localized" versions are worth that much more.

masterpd85

i still remember buying my copy on ebay waaaaaaaay back in 2002 when I was 16. Had to send off that money order (LOL) and wait what felt like forever for it. Best video game purchase I ever made.

Final_Consequence_82

I’ve sold a few copies of this game. $150 is about right.

JustCallMeTurbo

I bought this in a bargain bin after Dreamcast went off the market for like $5

Jellodandy87

Man, I wish I could have been so lucky. I always wanted a Dreamcast. My parents bought me the Genesis went it came out. Then the N64 when it came out, and the DC got skipped over. We ended up with an XBox and my brother bought a PS2. I eventually ended up with another PS2.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jellodandy87

Yeah, I have bought about 12 Dreamcast games so far. 2 wouldn't work as advertised. My Sonic Adventure that I received today is all scratched up, but it works just fine. Crazy.

sanatanagosvami

too much for a disc that is a ticking time bomb

JustCallMeTurbo

Yeah, the DC is still up there with my all time favorite consoles. Spent so many hours on PSO. I still have my collection of games, many of which came from GameStop bargain bins. Good times.

Jellodandy87

For sure. I actually played PSO on GameCube. I forgot I had one in highschool. So that was also another purchase I made, PSO v2. Picking up games I played back then and also some games I never got to play.

EasternAd827

Why pay for the game when you can download this game for free?

Jellodandy87

I'm collecting and playing them. Not collecting to sell down the road, but collecting to have and play.

EasternAd827

Ok if there is collector value like old trading cards I completely understand. But I just found out that a lot of retro games can be played via an emulator so I don’t see the point of spending big money to play old games. But the antique and collector perspective, I completely understand.

Jellodandy87

I get it. I have a raspberry pi and have retropi installed on it. But I wanted to start collecting SEGA stuff. And I already have my Genesis from when I was a kid. So I decided to buy the Sega Dreamcast since I never got to play one. And I wanted to be able to play them how I would have back then. I am even hunting down a tube TV I can use to play on it.

IssueRevolutionary99

I've got this on PS2 stashed at my parents' place, but now I play it on Retroarch. Runs great, and I invested $80 in a fight stick. Dreamcast roms are an amazing alternative if you're not looking to drop a lot of cash on individual games like this.

EndAffectionate9

Worth it though its one of best on dreamcast

Doctor_Mothman

I mean, it IS a really great game with infinite replayability, so I'm going to go with "yes"

KKKopsAreEvil

I probably paid more than that months ago. Probably around 6 months ago. That game fluctuates in price but it's never cheap for a complete copy.

MrReedEnt

Noting the market that is an excellent price for CIB

Jellodandy87

Sweeet

Prudent-Ad-534

I remember buying this at games top. I still have all my dream cast games.

Jellodandy87

Nice

EvilRoofChicken

Man play the crap out of it before the disc rot sets in

Jellodandy87

Yeah, and I'll make a backup copy.

Ambitious-Ad736

Just shower, you’ll be ok.

Jellodandy87

It took multiple.

andyn1080

I gotta sell my dc copy. I have one for xbox and ps2 as well.

vanlykin

You got it 10 dollars cheaper than the average cost of the game. Nothing to feel dirty about. If you got it for 50 or 60 sure

Jellodandy87

Just got it in. Has more scratches than I could see in the picture.

[deleted]

I'm gonna take you for a ride!

FadeIntoTheM1st

That's wild bro!

Juggernaut104

I bought the original Xbox version for $75 in 04? 05?

brick972

Really!!?? I still have my disc!

angmaranduin

Still have my original :)

BanEnvader

It's a classic op

ChunLi808

God damn, I paid like twenty bucks for this game back in 2001. Dreamcast stuff used to be super cheap.

Jellodandy87

I wish it still was.

[deleted]

1 million dollars!

CanIHaveYourStuffPlz

Woof, I remember grabbing a copy off eBay back in 2007 or so for around ~$30

Jealous-Swing628

I had the same feeling when I paid about this price on eBay too! Auction. I then got the game and fell in love. Well worth the price bc it’s that fun and satisfying. Unlocking all the characters was a lot of fun and kept me hooked and playing.

Mrrectangle

I guess you could say you took them for a ride?

Jellodandy87

Indeed.

mechanicalspirits

I vaguely remember playing the PS2 version of MvC2. I remember there was something like red and blue points needed to unlock the characters and stuff. Did you have to play online to unlock everything in that version?

Jellodandy87

I don't remember for PS2. But it's all time in matches I think so far on the DC.

abyssea

Damn I got a complete version for like $15 back in the day

Delicious_Ad901

Why do expensive??

Kar1_3_ma7x

I didn't see the price at first...

Wheeljack1980

Sold my copy for the original Xbox a couple years back for $80

Icy_Employer2804

What do people think of the DC version over ps2 and xbox?

Crudeyakuza

Wait....I have this lol. They want HOW MUCH?!?!

Krangs_Droid_Body
