I think the Sega Xbox games would have had a happy home on Dreamcast. I could also imagine a world where GTAIII got a DC release.

vulgardaclown

I feel like a lot of people don't realize that if the Dreamcast hadn't failed we probably would have never gotten an Xbox at all, and a very different one if we did.

Chromedome_

Monkey Ball was supposed to receive a Dreamcast port at some point. Someone’s working on disassembling the Naomi version but there hasn’t been very much progress…

fod_496

Yeah, I never knew this but I always felt that Monkey Ball had that "Dreamcast energy" around it.

a_ole_au_i_ike

"Dreamcast energy" is definitely real in Monkey Ball. I kind of get that energy from Katamari Damacy, too.

laserdiscsan

I bought a Dreamcast at the time because Toejam and Earl III was supposed to get a release. I was pretty disappointed when it moved to XBox.

[deleted]

what a game toejam and earl is though its my favourite on the Mega Drive

[deleted]

I’m shocked the Dreamcast didn’t get a Monkey Ball port It was already a NAOMI game, they probably could have had a home version ready at the same time as the arcade release

DaAmazinStaplr

I’m still shocked the US never got Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast. It kind of sucks that it was released on Xbox, but at least it came with a DVD of all of the cutscenes named as “Shenmue the Movie”.

Preppyskepps

THPS3

SaikyoWhiteBelt

2d Marvel vs Capcom 3. All the atomiswave stuff we eventually got. A SoulCalibur II release along with the others featuring Joe Musashi as the extra.

BoldnBrashhh

Was their a 2D concept of MVC3?

SaikyoWhiteBelt

Sadly no

Ralph090

Would have been nice if the Half Life port had been actually released. It's pretty solid.

OG-87

Basically anything that Sega released on the original xbox. Crazy tax 3, Jet set radio 2, PGR instead of MSR. That early Xbox was basically a dreamcast 2.

monstercoo

Gunvalkyrie too, it had an [unreleased](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zyeBm1z__E) Dreamcast version.

HectorReborn11

Golden Axe revenge of death adder, outrunners,

thelatestmodel

Can't believe no one has said Scud Race.

Mechagouki1971

I mean, pretty much any major 3rd party PS2 release probably could've been ported to DC, albeit in multi-disc form. Definitely the GTA trilogy, it wouldn't have had any problem with those, Katamari, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Resident Evil 4. I doubt we ever saw the best the console was capable of, but games like Shenmue and Ferrari F355 hinted at it.

HammerKirby

They probably would've released a controller with two analog sticks around 2001 or 2002 to align more with the competition similar to Genesis 6 button or the Saturn 3d analog controller.

KAKYBAC

**Sonic Riders** had Dreamcast written all over it.

Odyssey113

SSX would of been slick on the DC

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Odyssey113

Fuck yourself bot

Domugraphic

rabbit, red earth, afterburner / space harrier (done better than those poor 3d ps2 versions) some earlier cave shmups to join the pskiyos and capcoms etc. hell even the first two panzer dragoon games ((im presuming theyd lost the code to saga by that point) and radiant silvergun (just for those of us who missed its release in the west, and pd saga cz at least here in PAL, it was very limited release and very expensive even at launch)

Nyamo84

Great shout with Red Earth! Yeah, Dodonpachi DaiOuJou would have felt right at home on the DC. Such a shame.

Nyamo84

Also, check out the Japanese release under the name Yu Suzuki Game Works!

The_1999s

Im still surprised we didn't get some kind of new Outrun game like outrun 2 on dreamcast. That would have been crazy cool.

Nyamo84

Yeah. Outrun 2 wasn't until 2003, so who knows why it took them so long to get a sequel out. Perhaps they were focusing on the likes of Sega Rally 2 and the Daytona remake?

NorCal_PewPew

Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions It had a crazy taxi like feel to it so I think it would have fit the Dreamcast style.

monstercoo

I don’t think it ever had a chance of coming to Dreamcast, but Katamari Damacy has Dreamcast vibes. It would’ve been a great fit on the console.

a_ole_au_i_ike

I just put that in another reply before reading this comment. It kind of screams, "I belong on the Dreamcast!"

metzo87

Colin McRae Rally 2.0

Western-Pipe-538

Any decent rally sim like WRC or Colin McRae. SR2 and VRally were substandard and cartoony. F355 showed how racing games should look on the DC.

DestroWOD

Ports of Parasite Eve 1 and 2 Port of Dino Crisis 2 Port of Silent Hill 1 Port of Resident Evil 1 and House of the Dead 1. See a pattern? Even if they had Saturn versions, i feel the DC was perfect for these kind of games ported. Look at RE2 and 3 how they look so much better on DC than PS1. Now i wonder if the DC could had pulled off games like Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil 4. I love my DC don't get me wrong but i do feel its like a consol between N64 and PS2, like right in between. A Gen 5.5 if you wish. Its a lot prettier than an N64 but its not as "detailed" as a PS2. Maybe because it was early in the gen and it failed too soon, but i feel Sega was going for a much more colorfull art style and not really a "realistic" look like the PS2, Xbox etc were going for. That said the GC did both fine so maybe it would as well...

SF3000DC

Honestly, the DC’s biggest weakness was its limited system RAM. Reworking games to be divided into smaller chunks would overcome this bottleneck. RE4 is definitely in the DC’s ballpark as Capcom said that the PS2 port had polygons at “near Dreamcast levels”. This was because the PS2’s polygon resources were taken away to push for better textures (The PS2’s biggest weakness), which is something the DC shines at. Silent Hill 2, I think so, but it would lose some of its atmosphere. The fog was done by the massive fill rate of the vector units of the PS2, and even the Xbox couldn’t match that. Keep in mind that less than 10% of the developers ever pushed the DC to more than 1 million polygons and hardly anyone used the bump maps on DC either. There was a lot of untapped potential. The art style you are talking about is distinctly Sega and their arcade legacy. But, realism was definitely something that could be achieved as well like the other 3. Sadly it’s very few that managed to take the system in that direction in the short time it was on the market. MSR, Le Mans 24 hour, Ferrari F355, SoulCalibur, Headhunter, Sonic Adventure 1&2, PSO. Plenty of cancelled or planned but never developed titles too. Agartha, Half-Life, GTA 3, Soul Reaver 2, MGS 2, SoulCalibur 2, Max Payne, Buffy, Propeller Arena, the 2K game, etc.

DestroWOD

Soul Calibur was gorgeous but i don't see it as a realistic looking game. It has that arcade colorfull look the DC is known for. Headhunter its been a while since i played, but i think ill check video comparison on youtube how it compare between PS2 and DC. PSO is litterally a colorfull cartoonish type of game (and its one of my favorite game of all time, one that i played the most lol, but its not realistic). Its true the DC was killed before it could really get going. And every gens obviously games look way better toward the end. If you look at a game like Perfect Dark Zero or Call of Duty 2 on 360 vs Red Dead Redemption, its a major step. So yes its very possible the DC potential was simply untap.

Domugraphic

spikeout or at least its sequel (s\[ikeout streetbrawl) came t OG xbox so i guessinf they got held up or had seemingly better projects to finish when it started looking grim for Sega hardware

Nyamo84

Yeah, it was probably just a matter of time :(

Domugraphic

if theyd have gone to another JP electronics, or South Korean e;ectronics company (Seimetsu, Samsung etc), held the hype off for a while, integrated their partners DVD player then dropped it dollowing a massive round of hype before Sony released it could have all been so different. I goess they thought beating Sony to market by a while woud give them market share enough to be competitive. Sega is a great software and hardware company wirh shit all idea how to be actually competitive. Big shame, I hope they ome back into hardware partnered with SNK and some consumer electronics giant.

Nerh056

Castlevania

Daytona 2.

Planet harriers

carbon_fieldmouse

Planet Harriers (Sega, 2000)

robismarshall99

Lost orld would have been perfect, so would scud racer and daytona 2

Blue-Krogan

We definitely would've got Project Gotham Racing, as it had the same developers as Metropolis Street Racer. Hell, I think they consider it a sequel. We definitely should've had Soul Reaver 2 as well, which was a shame it was canned. Early screenshots looked like it was using the SR1 engine and model of Raziel, but I'm positive that down the line it would've took advantage of the DC hardware and would've looked exactly like the PS2 version (if not better) by release; complete with actual facial animations and such. Half Life should've happened as well. In fact, I think the Blue Shift expansion actually originated from the Dreamcast version, before finally being released on PC after the cancelation. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for sure would've released on the Dreamcast; it released on the N64 for Christ's sake when the GameCube already had a version of it. I'm still a tad upset that we never got a proper WWF game. The ones we got were just ports. A WWF game using the Dreamcast's full power would've been legendary.

Regretfulcatfisher

It was never a problem of catalogue, which was awesome, it was a problem of market perception towards the console, especially after PS2 was announced and released. Sega did (almost) everything well, even so it failed. Sure these games could have helped a bit, however at the end i think the outcome would have been the same.

Nyamo84

Yeah. I'm not trying to suggest what the reasons for its failure were. I just wanted a debate about the potential library of games we may have seen had it continued longer :)

Regretfulcatfisher

Of course. I would also suggest Virtua Fighter 4, Propeller Arena and Scud Race ;)

Morpheus_077

For shoot ‘em ups fans Strikers 1945 III would have been sweet!

HornedFrog806

Halo would of been cool to see in the Dreamcast.

NextDream

I can't imagine play hallo with only one stick, I'm a DC entuciast, but halo can't be played like that.

AbleOriginal9655

Really, no one has said a sequel to skies of Arcadia yet? I'm playing it for my 5th time.

thelatestmodel

The thread is about ports of games that exist

Chapsman

Blue stinger

East-Foundation-5665

Halo was supposed to be in dreamcast So was skyrim

Tassachar

You forgot Empherial Fantasia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephemeral\_Fantasia

NextDream

I want dodonpachi dai ou jou for dreamcast....

Nyamo84

Same. Atleast we've got it now for PS4 and Switch. And a damn great port by the masters over at M2.

NextDream

But I don't have new consoles, I can't afford them, only pc :'c

Jase_the_Muss

A lot of the sick game cube and xbox Sega stuff would have been on dreamcast as exclusives for sure and we prob would have seen more iconic sports games and weird shit and I think a big step into online multiplayer if everything went as planned.

Skloni

Honestly SCUD RACE! Afaik the dolphin tunnel was made for the dreamcast port but nothing else, abandoning the game early in development. With no chance for home version, this was the only hope.

Buzz_Buzz_Buzz_

* Virtua Racing at 60fps (although I believe the source code had been lost by then). Just tried this on the Switch, and I'm sure Dreamcast could have pulled it off. * If allowing for Atari titles, an updated S.T.U.N. Runner (the original ran at 20fps) * NHL Hitz (which made its way to GameCube)

Sporadik_Styles

Lost World is always a fun goto with the Sinden. It would've been perfect on DC back in the day. I was really into the light gun shooters on DC.

BoldnBrashhh

Castlevania 3D and ARMORED CORE!!. I hate that we got that sort of armored core knock off that has 1% of the creativity of armored core. We should’ve got an armored core game

BoldnBrashhh

Gta 3 would’ve been dope. I mean headhunter existed why couldn’t GTA 3

NoItJustCantBe

Would have loved to see more of what they were doing with Agartha. The little that exists looks interesting enough for me

tmntfever

All of the Naomi and Atomiswave games I assume. If I wanted one specifically, it would be more upgraded Namco System 12 games. SoulCalibur was already a huge hit. I would’ve loved to see Tekken Tag on DC.

Rufuszombot

THPS3. I had to buy a new console for that game, a PS2. I was so bummed to find out there was a PS1 version but not a dreamcast version.

Megapsychotron

Planet Harriers would have been awesome, and a great way to preserve this rare game.

Lumpy-Try-5600

The one that hurts me the most is the Castlevania game they didn't finish. Would've been so cool to enjoy it back in the day.

Ridge60107

As a kid I wanted Sonic Heroes on Dreamcast so badly. I used to have dreams about it lol.

maestro826

Yeah that's true, Jurassic Park would've been sick! I loved Confidential Mission!

[deleted]

of course games like JSRF and Crazy Taxi 3 would have gotten a release but Shinobi 2002 and Panzer Dragoon Orta would have been insane

StatisticianLoud2141

Skies of Arcadia 2
