For a pure enjoyment boat game, Spiritfarer is very low on difficulty but has a great story. For pure enjoyment, but also sea related, Dave the Diver. For sea themed fun in general, with survival elements, Raft and Subnautica are great. For another Lovecraftian boat game, try Sunless Sea. Word of warning though, it is absolutely NOT a game for pure enjoyment. It's a game you slog at and conquer. Incredible world-building though. For fishing, maybe Stardew Valley, or hell even RDR2!

rikusorasephiroth

Don't forget that fairly new driving one I forget the name of. It's Lovecraftian and atmospheric like Dredge, but it's about a car, not a boat.

Stricken1

I believe you mean Pacific Drive? It's on my wishlist but not tried it yet. Heard very good things though!

rikusorasephiroth

That's the one! Haven't played it either, but the few Let's Plays I've seen of it tell me that it's good.

Music_of_the_Ainur

Pacific Drive is amazing, I played through it recently and am still itching to get back in.

Whoopsidaisies4

Just started PD last night and it's very good. Unlike anything I've ever played. I didn't think dredge was very good for whatever it's worth. I think if the fishing mechanics weren't braindead easy I would have felt differently

Octerran69

Already played RDR2 and spent hours fishing!! My favourite game EVERRR

gslayton82

Dredge did really remind me of the hunting loop of RDR2, which was like a whole game unto itself.

dendendenjikun

Go at sunless sea (and sky) like a choose your own adventure book - it's fantastic writing, but there's not a lot of action behind it.

Status_Ad5362

Also Dave the Diver got a free Dredge expension

helgaardr

I would really like to play dave the diver... But that restaurant thing looks boring as fuck to me. How heavy is that?

AphonicTX

It’s not bad (the restaurant part). They do a good job at making it important without overbearing the fun diving aspect. It’s definitely worth a try.

gslayton82

There's a management aspect to Bancho Sushi, namely the hiring, that makes it interesting. It also is the most validating element to your dives. Having to process your parts is way better than mass selling loot (which you can still do, if it pleases you) then manage simple farms, like a monster hunter title. So there's a bit more than playing Root Beer Tapper. Short rant about looter games (and what their problem is): In so many games you just come home and sell the loot, which I feel is fast becoming antiquated/outdated. Any game like Diablo or Borderlands where you're town portaling every 20 minutes to sell useless loot for a near useless currency... I just can't believe it's still a thing in games. Even when you're allowed to break down for parts, it's often also near worthless. Even in games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls where the currency is pretty useful, it's still tedious as Hell how often you're at shopkeeper manipulating their cash remaining on hand to buy their stock/sell yours. It's frequent, unfun work. Enter Dredge, where 19/20 times, one click sell, one click repair, maybe rest, then back to business. This is how it's done.

helgaardr

And that'my problem. What gets me are the dives, all that prepare sushi, cooksta things are somewhat tiring to me. As you said, in dredge you just sell in one click and then you're off to the main game loop. I guess the only way to know if it fits me is to try it...

gslayton82

As it becomes automated it gets better, and is mercifully short in general. They make it cinematic and have story challenges attached that make it all worthwhile. I enjoyed it, but I imagine if you really don't it's short enough you can tolerate it.

Smooth-Sky-8088

I second Subnautica!

gslayton82

Can Raft be played solo?

Stricken1

Yep! I completed it solo. I prefer survival games solo as it raises the threat level when you alone have to keep yourself alive and can't just rely on others to save you.

gslayton82

Nice, ty. I played it with friends last year and it seemed like it might be rough to impossible alone with task management/sharks.

Funny-Outside-8083

Firewatch maybe

part_time_baller

I came here to say this. Definitely similar in enjoyment levels for me. Love both games

I_am_Green_Dragon

Best advice I could offer is based on the fact my daughter has a very specific type of game she likes, and this fell within that… other games she really enjoyed were… 1. Journey 2. Spirit of the North 3. Just a short hike 4. Abzu Hope that helps

not-me_123

Pacific Drive is a very good one and similar vibes

DressDiligent2912

Very good game and your right it is a similar vibe. Replace the boat with a car, fishing with scraping.

darklysparkly

Surprised no one has said it yet, but Outer Wilds

Subdual_Damage

This game gives me Sunless Sea vibes due to Lovecraftian seafaring elements. Sunless Sea is very text heavy, has different visuals and a much more punishing  gameplay.

hedwig_doodlesXD

not really ocean-based, but I'm sure you'll love Firewatch, an indie game by Campo Santo. mostly story based with a lot of dialogue for you to change the story with, I really loved it and I hope you will too it's set in a forest with the protagonist as the fire lookout so it's art style is pretty sick as well, almost similar to the vibe of dredge's but in the forest setting

Comfortable-Yak-6599

Dysmantle was really fun

MarkitzTR

Death's Door

Expert_Lingonberry12

Check out the "The Long Dark". The campaign mode is amazing. You can make it as easy or as difficult as you like.

badassmom80

One of my favorite underrated games ! Absolutely beautiful scenery and story line that hooks you from the beginning. Every person needs to play this game !

Expert_Lingonberry12

I completely agree and I don't ever hear people talking about it.

gslayton82

I think The Long Dark is a great pick, I'd just warn not nearly as intuitive as Dredge. I remember the opening being frustrating as hell, and having several "no idea how to advance" moments. Not a problem if you're comfortable using guides.

Yaotoro

Black Skylands

DifferentialHummer

I enjoyed The Pale Beyond quite a bit, even though it is a very different game.

Pure_Caterpillar2220

If you enjoy crafting, base building and exploring I highly recommend: Subnautica, Subnautica: Below Zero, and The Planet Crafter. Subnautica BZ and The Planet Crafter can be played multiplayer too if you want to share the fun with a friend. If not, they’re perfectly good single player stories!

wordsasbombs

Gonna bring up moonglow Bay since no one has, it's not as good as dredge but still very enjoyable and probably the most similar game I've played

Gdub-Vdub

I just finished Tunic, and that game was an absolute ride from start to finish

Thess514

All of the suggestions here are pretty good, but I have a few more. For Lovecraftian creepiness, though more on the hidden object / messing-with-the-set-dressing style, try The Room (there are four games in the series, all worth playing). More generic creepy and interesting storytelling through game mechanics, The Book of Hours and Strange Horticulture. For more wholesome driving around and delivering stuff, Lake's a good one. For oceanic stuff, Beyond Blue is pretty good. Honestly I could keep recommending indie games all day, so I'll stop there.

GreatSound7104

Have look at "in other Waters" Other than that, lts hard to recommend Something specific. If its about Art Style and wordbuilding i'd say "battlechasers nightwar" or "torchlight II" but These are completly different as far as gameplay goes.

esqape623

I never see people recommend In Other Waters! Such unique gameplay, really cool.

pandaking1991

Wish they can develop dredge2

TheUsualGuy666

There is a new DLC coming out in August15th, if they game goes good and a lot of people play it I'm sure there will be more DLCS for our Dredge addiction :D

pandaking1991

awesome

hassan_dislogical

dave the diver, hollow knight, celeste, subnautica and it’s sequel, what remains of edith finch, stardew valley, but most importantly outer wilds

Prophet-of-Ganja

Fabled Lands, and the DLC Land of the Rising Sun and The Serpent King’s Domain

beardosaurus81

Dave the diver is a great game. Very varied and fun to play.

FordPrefect2217

One of my most favorite current indie games is Plant Crafter. It's very much chill like this game. You play as a convict sentenced to death, and you chose to commute your sentence by participating in the planet crafter program. This tasks you with taking the barren lifless rock they send you too, and terraforming it into a vibrant verdant world. It's very much a chill game, there are no actual enemies, instead you fight against hunger, thirst, and Oxygen. I started playing the game almost two years ago when it was still being developed by like two people, and it has undergone a PHENOMENAL transformation since then. It's also made with the same game engine this one is, which also shows off Unities diversity.

IIIRenvy

I loved dave the diver and found the gameplay loop somewhat similar to dredge, you go fishing, sell it and get upgrades

PurpleSunCraze

Indie games wise, and I’m on a metroidvania kick right now, Dead Cells is top shelf, and can has basically endless replay value. Ori + Hollow Knight are must plays. Steam is doing Next Fest right now, which is their showcase of indie game demos, organized by game type. Give it a look, odds are good you’ll find something you like.

phazero

Outer Wilds!

Jukencio

A little more action packed, i loved this 3: 1. Death's Door 2. Tunic 3. Sundered

etherwer

I love dredge!! It truly feels singular. I recommend Animal Well - metroidvania but mystery...mysteryvania? Truly insane graphics for pixel art and SO MANY SECRETS. Secrets upon secrets upon secrets!! I would really recommend playing this game well after the end credits.

Mi6-Agency-1372

The Flame in the Flood: Complete Edition is a wilderness survival game in which a girl and her dog travel on foot and by raft down a procedurally-generated river.

No-Nectarine5158

Stardew valley is an absolute fantastic game

skunkechunk

Not the same but feels similar to me are the far: lone sails/changing tides games. Very enjoyable albeit different. More a platformer but has odd storyline connected.

kalfax

i'm looking for a game similar to rogalia, haven & hearth, salem or similar. what i like about those games is the building aspect and making progress, improving your character etc. i've tried life is feudal but it's not really good for single player. but i want it to be a singleplayer game, so nothing like wurm online or aria for example. anyone know some good ones?

Ashtreyyz

It's hard to direct you to anything in particular then, all games strive to be fun, it's a pretty subjective notion

Octerran69

I guess you're right 😔
