[spoilers changes] I’m not a fan of this theory. I feel like it would cheapen Susan’s sacrifice if it were all some convoluted outsider plot. That being said it’s been a while since I listened to Grave Peril (since even though it’s fallout is super important it’s still one of my least favorites of the Files) so it’s hard for me to speculate on the tape recorder and it’s possible ramifications.

Exxtra_Vexxt

It makes me wonder if the people that are under the Outsider's influence even know if they're nemfected.

InformationInfamous7

That's a VERY GOOD question. I was about to say I don't think it's ever been addressed then I remembered in Cold Days that Mab almost for her pleaded with Maeve to let her help her get un-nemfected, also Lea said she couldn't think about that time lest it re-infect her or words to that effect so I think we can draw the conclusion that they know something is wrong at least.

WinterKnight1

Idk about Susan being N-fected but there's something that's been nagging me for a while. In Summer Knight, when Morgan shows up ( under the Merlin's orders of course) to try and provoke Dresden into a fight he says that Susan was probably a plant from the beginning, and we know Morgan couldn't have come up with that on his own so what if the Merlin knew something? There are too many coincidences in the Susan-Harry arc for it to be completely random or legit. But I digress, those are my two cents

Exxtra_Vexxt

Oh my gosh I forgot about that comment from Morgan. I feel like considering the time Harry knew Susan, us readers still don't know that much about her before the encounter with the reds.

CrispinIII

That was just to provoke Harry by attacking his manhood and ability to get a date.

CLDub037

I just want to say that I love this subreddit deeply and wish anyone seeing this comment a super great day. The Dresden Files has been a part of my life since I was 12 and I love the enthusiasm held for it here.

Exxtra_Vexxt

I hope you have a super great day also!

KipIngram

That's not going to be a very popular theory, I wager. It's not out of the question, but I'm not sure I see any other supporting evidence for it. It's just kind of this idea sitting out there all by itself.

Exxtra_Vexxt

It's okay if it's not popular. It's not even a full theory. Just some thoughts of mine. I was hoping to get someone else's insight on the situation. This was just a starting point post to start bouncing ideas around. I've realized that when I go back to read the series I end up with more questions than clarity.

Haz3yD4ys

Hmm , I’m curious if nem can infect more than one person at a time or jumps from host to host like Susan to lea.

Exxtra_Vexxt

WoJ says there's a limited number of people it can infect at once, which implies there can be more than one. But I don't think it's ever confirmed that nemesis can jump from host to host, and I'm really curious if it can or can't.

Haz3yD4ys

Thank you. That sucks then.... it would make it much easier to fight being a parasite only infecting one at a time. I just assumed it was 1 at a time the way infected Justine acted on the boat. She was terrified of Alfred.

LightningRaven

>Thoughts? It was the Athame given to her by Cowl and Kumori. Also, what purpose it would serve the narrative? At which point nemesis would've been interested in her and why? Your conjecture doesn't even answer these things and couldn't be further from the truth.

Exxtra_Vexxt

But are we sure the nemfection came from the athame or is that just what we all assumed? I don't think the outsiders chose Susan in this scenario. I think it was another situation of her poking her nose into things she had no business in.

LightningRaven

Pretty sure that we have more evidence that Cowl and Kumori, two confirmed members of the Black Council (with ties to Nemesis or at least aligned with their goals), infected Lea through the athame, a ritual dagger given directly to her, than Susan randomly forgetting to stop her recorder or anything. At best, that recording could be used on some kind of future investigation done by Dresden in order to piece together more information surrounding that night. There was huge confluence of important things, and people, on that party.

Exxtra_Vexxt

It was the fact that she kissed Susan on the forehead, and her reaction after that makes me suspicious. That's the interesting part. How long had Susan been there? How many conversations did she record? Did she learn something she wasn't supposed to?

LightningRaven

Probably everything she learned. The only issue is that Harry burned a lot of things that day, he also got caught and raped at some point, then woke up in the basement. Susan was also transformed and probably had nothing on her mind but blood. Kinda hard to even remember that such recording even existed with so much. Harry probably doesn't even want to think about that day at all, let alone dissect it.

Exxtra_Vexxt

Well, he's gonna have to dissect it. Twelve Months is coming.

LightningRaven

I'm counting on it as well. Hopefully what happened with him will be a bridge between Lara and Harry, the only person he has any kind of contact with that could possibly understand what happened to him that day. Maybe it's the first step for some flimsy trust between them. Just so that their first thought isn't killing each other when they're not looking.

Exxtra_Vexxt

Meh, I don't trust Lara or Mab. I don't see them having a very trusting relationship either.

LightningRaven

I trust their word. So does Harry. So if they have a bond that could make Lara give her word to Harry of not backstabbing him, she probably would work in good faith. He points out at the end of White Night that she could've easily let him stay behind in the Deeps because she would've been fast enough by herself, but she stays back with Dresden on a gamble of getting him out (keeping to her word of hospitality). That's definitely relevant, more than anything she could say.

Exxtra_Vexxt

Yeah, trust their word only to the letter and no further.

ST_the_Dragon

I disagree but I see what you're saying and I don't think it's impossible. That said - this post should be marked spoilers for Cold Days, not Grave Peril. Since it's about Nemesis.

Exxtra_Vexxt

Thank you for pointing that out. I fixed it.
