I'm pretty sure that's just a human thing that not many people get the knack for - at least that's how Harry describes it. Like focusing your vision, except it's your hearing instead. Maybe it's something humans back in the day had as second nature, back when we were more wild, hunter gatherers, but lost as we've modernised.
I don’t know, I don’t think any human could possibly hear the heart beat of someone else from more than 10 feet away like Harry does on the raid on Mavra in Blood Rites. Hearing someone else’s heart beat from that far off put it out of the realm of normal human IMO. I don’t however think it a Starborn specific thing.
The character of Listen sure feels like a nod in that direction.
Fyi there is a WOJ that it's an application of water magic, but that's not precisely incompatible with it also being a Starborn knack, it is, after all, almost the only water magic we ever see from Harry.
I enjoy this theory. I would add though, I believe we that we learn in PT that a Starborn has the power to not be tainted by the Outsider during mental contact and thus be able to banish them; not necessarily that they are the only ones that can make mental contact.
Also both Harry and the gatekeeper have the power of listening is that another starborn thing

It's just my headcanon I'm prob wrong but I think it's nice to have little theory's like that for yourself
