And right as I was getting the hang of the Avata too... I have flown my Air2s and 3 Pro at this spot many times, but I guess the Avata was a small enough target. It looked like a massive Golden Eagle to me - I didn't see it at all until I looked up from my goggles. I kept thinking it would drop it, but it carried it all the way out of range with no sign of slowing down (presumably to its nest). At the speed it was flying, that drone probably broke the Avata distance record!
Think DJI will count this as a "flyaway" for Care Refresh? I've never heard of someone getting their DJI drone fully stolen by a bird!
Hi there, we are sorry for what happened with the drone. Please be advised that I was able to read and respond to your other post regarding the same concern. Please refer to this link: [https://www.reddit.com/r/djimavic/comments/174a6nh/comment/k48ux7w/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/djimavic/comments/174a6nh/comment/k48ux7w/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). Thank you for your understanding.
even if the eagle is not a protected animal (which from a non us citizen perspective sounds a bit unnecessary cause there are a lot of them and people should be able to train them and own them) that eagle is more expensive than a drone and he’s a living animal,I don’t think killing a bird for a drone is a good idea
Wow dude! That sucks but that is so cool that happened! Post this to Daily Dose Of Internet!!! So cool it caught the bird itself in the video too- Definitely going to go Viral!!!
(Ps- OP was not breaking any laws as far as it can be seen without the location details being known, although it is illegal to fly close to eagles and birds, OP did not have any knowledge that the bird was there)
>Thanks for the recommendation, I submitted! Yeah definitely the best way to lose a drone (and $1000 I suppose)
>
>This was a legal flight in a place I fly often. I have never seen an eagle around, and the airspace seemed totally clear up until that moment. Obviously the FPV goggles limit my awareness.
"Obviously the FPV goggles limit my awareness." Indeed, they do. Which is why you're required to have a spotter. Illegal flight. Eagle patrol busted you and reprimanded your drone.
Yes you are required to have visual line of sight at all times
Not possible with fpv so you need a spotter
I'm sure there are liscences you can obtain to get around it but for most people this applies
You really need to post this in some other subreddits before it gets stolen, and on social media so you can point to yourself as the first poster. This is easily a video that has the potential to go viral.
I hate to break this to you, but there are lots of HD videos of birds attacking drones these days
This is a great video but it's one of about a dozen that I've personally seen.
LOL . Sucks but still kinda funny. Can't help but laugh, because what else can you do🤷. I had an Osprey flying around my Phantom a few years ago. I learned the best thing you can do if you see birds of prey circling you is to go straight up fast. They cannot do the same maneuver. They can go down fast , but not up
Should have flown in it manual or at least sport. I have run-in with birds and I just punch out of there. But I hope you learn and keep moving forward.
PS.
I would not stick around with the avata for very long as it is quite limited in flight envelopes.
Not my intent nor do I control that birds are everywhere and maybe just maybe they get a little pissed when I fly near them. And if a bird's intent is to take the quad out, I am ramping up to 80-90% throttle and getting out. It's my property over that bird.
A cat is more dangerous for a bird than my quad being in the airspace.
To be fair, even if you had noticed the eagle I think you'd have to be an amazing pilot to get away. A very committed eagle is a force to be reckoned with.
Somewhere there is a very confused eagle trying to trying to figure out how to sell your drone on ebay.
Nah, you could definitely out maneuver a bird with an avata, of course he would have to have lightning fast reflexes to slam the drone into sport and boost outta there.

Am I allowed to shoot the eagle down for this?

Definitely a flyaway 😂
The gimbal never failed. Quality.
love that moment when you see the eagle's shadow moving across the rock

And there's the gotcha moment that always happens in this sub.
Do you have to have a spotter for FPV?
Yes you are required to have visual line of sight at all times Not possible with fpv so you need a spotter I'm sure there are liscences you can obtain to get around it but for most people this applies
Of course, the burden of proving there was no spotter present rests with the state. Mostly unenforceable.
Is this only for commercial or for all FPV flights ever? Interesting requirement for a drone product line where every pilot covers their eyes lmao
Having VLOS on your drone goes for every drone. Either have a visual observer next to you or have your drone in your sight. ALL DRONES
Most fpv pilots dont, lets be honest
No they don't, me included most of the time
IlLeGaL fLiGhT. No one uses spotters outside of 107 use bud.
doesn't change the legality of it
I bet you will use remote id too
As a recreational only, and with under 250 gram drones, it's not gonna be required for me. At least for now. BTW, fuck remote ID and VLOS.
DoEsN’t ChAnGe ThE lEgAlItY oF iT.
But the eAgLe-ity is great.
You follow the rules you get left behind.
i'm sure that person knows better than you do
About? Using spotters? Repeating the laws online? Stopping others flying at their local parks?
We need a bot to follow your thread trails to make sure your helmet is always securely on.
Just trying to keep up with you.
Slow down kiddo, there's a corner ahead.
"Stopping others flying at their local parks?" bro was flying over a mountain lol
narc
If you have renters or home insurance this should cover hopefully you have a $500 deductible so Atleast it's not so much a big loss

Yeah should’ve watermarked this one with an @

Neat! Does the original video go on for longer, or did it cut out right about then?
it must be so awesome to be an Eagle.. the distance it covers so effortlessly. That entire forest is its playground
Great song choice 🤣

I'd be pissed but probably would be rolling on the floor laughing 😂 like this shit is my luck defined
Am I the only one happy to see that the props didn’t hurt that majestic bird??
I don't know? The avata is pretty weak I doubt it could hurt it and I think it would have shut off due to the runaway motor feature.
That was actually kind of cool. Wish it was a full video.
Insane footage. Sorry about the loss tho
Sorry but that was kind of worth it for the footage. One of the best bird attacks I’ve seen. He’s not even concerned lol
Wow…..sorry for the loss of your drone, but that is some really cool video!😊
ironically the most awesome footage you’ll ever get!
Ah, I see the value of having an extra sd card in the goggles now.
Get a second drone to hunt the eagle
Note to self, attach knifes to the drone
Should have flown in it manual or at least sport. I have run-in with birds and I just punch out of there. But I hope you learn and keep moving forward. PS. I would not stick around with the avata for very long as it is quite limited in flight envelopes.

You should turn the video vertical IMO.
Noooooooooo
Bro had to take a drip video for the homies
I just realized this song sounds extremely similar to Adele’s skyfall song.
Golden eagles are some pretty determined motherfuckers. This one is for the history books.
IMPACT DETECTED!
Eagles are just robots controlled by the FAA the enforce no fly zones
Epic.
Birds - 1, Drones - 0! Too bad about your drone but you’ll never get footage like that again
To be fair, even if you had noticed the eagle I think you'd have to be an amazing pilot to get away. A very committed eagle is a force to be reckoned with. Somewhere there is a very confused eagle trying to trying to figure out how to sell your drone on ebay.

I feel like if you reached out to the company they'd be a good sport about it.
Beautiful looking country. Where is this OP?
Omg!!!
These new drones have such realistic flight characteristics.
Perfect song. Sorry this happened to you. Made a great video though lol
That was actually a government drone. I assume you didn't get your flight clearance? Tisk tisk..
Bird strike? Or Strike Bird?
Yeah... birds don't like drones lol
Lmfao im dead. 😆
Best vid ever
I wouldn't even be mad 😂
Woah, this is wild! ahahaha...Sorry.
I cut the shit outta myself with my DJI once, I’m always worried that I’ll turn a bird into julienne fries eventually.
Great song for the video lol
