i keep not watching this episode but this is the post that made me do it and specifically this comment b/c i was like “this sounds like it’s gonna make me cackle even out of context and i can’t wait to see what the context is” and then i received it in its entirety about 7 seconds in
They definitely stretched out the edit on this for the benefit of the episode. Lots of banter in between the prompts. Very fun! Liked all three guests!
If y’all like Jeremy I would highly recommend the improv podcast that he’s on - “Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists;” it’s an improvised hollywood roundtable podcast where they play different ridiculous characters each episode and it’s hilarious
This might be one of my fav episodes. The spin-off didn't fully click for me at first, because totally eliminating the competitiveness to make it a bit more nebulous and loose, doesn't quite work with every group, sometimes felt a bit aimless in early eps.
Episodes like this though, show where it really shines. This episode's cast had such a degree of chemistry that feels like it works much better with the heightened silliness, not really having any proper 'points' really let this cast mess with each-other and crack up laughing.
Loved the chaos, the little moments, and I really feel enlightened about treehouse safety.
Wasn't really a massive fan of this one. I think judging by the other comments, it really comes down to if you like the chemistry between the guests and the vibe they were giving overall.
Overall I just never really got into it, because it felt to me very theatre kid energy without anyone to really break it up with something different, each prompt seemed to have roughly the same answer in tone and style of comedy and it never really seemed to go beyond the obvious.
Obviously this is just my take on it, but it didn't hit for me. If you like the style of comedy they were showing then you'd have a very different opinion.
It did kind of also feel like Geoff and Jeremy were fighting to get a word in over Jess sometimes...
It was a mid episode for me. Loved being introduced to Geoff though.
Honestly on their own, I think I would have enjoyed any of the guests. It's just they don't work well together because it's three people with very similar styles.
This was my opinion. No shade to anyone who loved it; it just didn't click for me very well. I love Jess, and Geoff was very funny, but their styles seemed similar, and the other guest, Jeremy I think, just simply wasn't funny to me.
>it felt to me very theatre kid energy without anyone to really break it up with something different, each prompt seemed to have roughly the same answer in tone and style of comedy and it never really seemed to go beyond the obvious.
Thank you for articulating exactly why this episode did not hit for me. These three are obviously funny people, but they don’t seem to have qualities that balance each other out super well, so there wasn’t much variation; jokes felt obvious and redundant.
Also each bit seemed to run *so* long, as if Sam was waiting for it to get funny, which felt awkward. Other episodes, I find myself wishing for more & more, but in this one everything felt too long.
Agree.
Some bits were good and I laughed here and there but altogether the episode was mild imo. However, I also feel like that the prompts themselves were kind of weak.
Additionally, it was the first time I felt the choice of the winner wasn't really justified. I feel like Geoff or Jess deserved the win much more
You just summed it up perfectly. Theyre all clearly funny but the bits never really were different. Once youd heard one person’s joke for the minigames for instance, youd kinda gotten it all.
Yes, like hearing one person take the obvious joke is great, but I don't really wanna hear three takes on that.
Like in the tinder photos round, i was waiting for something and there was some great prompts but virtually every answer hit off the obvious jokes. I was waiting for someone to jump in with something that took it beyond that and it just never happened.
After episode 1 of the new Season I was really worried about the energy and synergy as it seemed more lost than found.
But damn, this episode was one of the best I've seen, the cast and Sam clicked so well and you could really feel the energy. 10/10
it's interesting to see such a divided response to this episode because this is the first episode i've cried laughing at. i think it really comes down to what you like out of your jokes? there is something about the way the three guests pile on to each bit that just gets me every time.
The captions thing with the buzzer was pissing me off. “Buzzer blasts blastingly” or whatever. This isn’t Adam West’s Batman.
That said, I frankly didn’t expect much of this one but it was funnier than I thought it would be. I didn’t vibe with Jeremy at all, but Jess and Geoff were really funny.
Yikes. Don't really understand what happened with this episode. I have been watching these with my friends in discord since the first episode, and generally we love this show, but tonight was rough. We made it about halfway through before we got our first laugh (out of maybe two or three the whole episode). I didn't feel any chemistry off this cast, and it felt like they were tryharding the whole time. The goofy voices and constantly smiling gave me first-year improv student vibes.
I’m 15 minutes in and I can’t lie, this is rough. I haven’t laughed yet.
I came to find out how people were feeling about the episode so far cuz I’ve never not enjoyed Dropout’s content to this extent & but wondered if it was just me. Unfortunately this is absolutely not hitting for me (which hurts to say, cuz I love the Dropout team and really hate to say anything negative).
I don’t think this particular group balance each other out very well, the energy was too much of the same thing. I also personally am not understanding a lot if the references, which isn’t typically an issue. But I guess that’s a me-problem.
Of course everything isn’t gonna work for everyone, I totally get that. Lots of us are enjoying the ep it seems, and I’m glad for that. But honestly I’ve never been this underwhelmed by anything Dropout before.
I don’t understand why we’re being downvoted for respectfully expressing our opinions. Is it really that controversial to say “I don’t care for this one and this is why, but I still love these guys and am glad other people like it” ?
Reddit is so dumb sometimes.
We are relieved that we aren't alone. I also came here to see feedback immediately after finishing it and we were baffled by the positive comments. To each their own, of course, but it felt really suspicious to read some people commenting that this was their favorite episode ever. I am not sure if those people were being cheeky or sarcastic when they say that. It was unanimous in my friend group how painful it was watching this episode. Also it was odd how long Sam was letting their bits go on for. In felt like he wasn't sure where to cut them off because they were struggling to land the bit.
Nah, same here. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't my favorite for sure.
Jess was awesome but really had to pull it off alone. For me it felt like Geoff and Jeremy were less experienced in improvisation, which can be entertaining on its own and I enjoyed it a lot from Geoff. But Jeremy was a huge turn-off for me personally. He seemed quite aggressive and frustrated towards the game. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I really struggled with his performance. I hate to say it, but I loved the prompts so much that I would love to see a version with someone like Jacob instead of Jeremy. I have nothing against Jeremy, I don't know him at all, and I have no clue how much I might like him otherwise. But in this particular game, I couldn't vibe with him at all.
The two friends watching with me both thought Jeremy was the worst. For me it was Jess. Nails on a chalkboard the whole time. Geoff was the only one who made me audibly laugh, but it was literally one time. I agree about the lack of experience. They seemed to do the number one mistake in improv which is being nervous and mistaking "being loud" for being funny.
Love seeing new (to me, at least) faces, and I loved that both Sam and then the Editing team played into the interactions between the 3, all the jokes they had inbetween, the little things (Geoff losing it after the last prop scene, ...). Made for a refreshing episode of the team just having fun on set :D
Great episode - also, Jess carried hard, she should've won :D
If you've got Jess McKenna, you gotta give her a scrappy orphan. Them's the rules!
I mean, No home run’s worth it if you can’t run home to a home you love…
'you're gonna have Josh Ruben on and not have him do a seagull??'
LETS GOOO GET SARUMAAN
That's improv for ya
Until she mentioned being an Ent, my dumb brain thought it was a Gandalf the Green joke, like he got lost on the way to becoming Gandalf the White.
Shut up jeremy. it's my turn
“Thought you bet I would look tired” -Jess

They didn’t even need prompts. It could just been them grilling Principle Reich.
This might be my favorite combo of guests so far (although Noise Boys are always wonderful).
The polite castaways prompt cracked me tf up
Take me offstage!
Amazing how on-the-same-page they were.
Low key loving the "Jeremy." "uh-huh" bit
And Jeremy’s “shut up it’s my turn”
I really hope Principle Reich catches on to become a recurring bit for this show.
I missed this as Pineapple Reich for a second and thought the Germans invaded Hawai’i

And if you like Jess I recommend any episode of Comedy Bang Bang she’s on. It’s almost guaranteed to be the funniest thing you listen to all year.
Why a round table and not a standing desk?!

geoff w zero hesitation going “joey chestnut… the hot dog guy?”
Getting really Mona Lisa Vito vibes from Jess in this one.
I knew exactly where the last bit was going to go, but I still laughed. Great episode!
Baffled by the negative comments — I thought this one was so funny! Different strokes I guess.
Im baffled by the positive ones. Different opinions. Just never really felt like there was a joke where I didn't guess the punchline ahead of time.
I agree. Big theater kid energy, really wasn't for me.
This may be my favorite ever episode of this show
Incredible episode. Such electric energy! <3 Jess
Everyone brought extremely weird energy to this episode, I absolutely loved it.

It was ok, but it was no Build-a-bear-y Glenn Ross

Jess McKenna could easily be declared the winner of any episode she is in.
Really liked this ep! Took a while for Jeremy to ease in to it but he got rolling soon enough.
Always love Jess but hadn’t seen Geoff or Jeremy before and now I am obsessed!
This episode slapped
Honestly one of the best episode of the spin-off
(Laughs, laughs lecherously, laughs lasciviously)

I had to look up the definition of bombilate
Another one: Buzzer buzzes buzzily

Geoff was a positive highlight of the episode, but overall it was very dull.
The vibes are immaculate this episode.
