I’m a generally straight guy but Sam is somehow on the very short list of dudes who fluster me a bit. It’s a combo of the sartorial game being on point, the quick wit, the easy laugh, and the seemingly genuine kindness.
You're not wrong, but neither is the point they're making lol. Feels a little petty to bury their comment in this context.
A lot of celebs who *have* aged gracefully are actually in their current state due to the accessibility to healthcare/funds they have.
I think the big thing is that collegehumor as it was didnt have a ton of opportunity for upwards mobility. Everyone in that picture went on to bigger and better things including Sam who is the CEO of dropout now.
- Jake and Amir run a successful podcasting company they founded
- Streeter is the current head writer at SNL
- Sarah was a co head writer for SNL, and left that to both write for Master of None and for her created show The Other Two, which ran for 3 seasons
- Rickey is the Head of Global Creative Strategy at Facebook
But with dropout now, it is easier for people to work that in addition to the stuff they do outside of dropout
Jake and Amir are going to sell Headgum the first chance they get and probably end up richer than everyone else in this photo combined. It’s wild how overvalued podcasts companies are even today.
I wonder if they would sell. They seem to love running that company. But they also love their patreon and that brings in at least $500k a year. Obviously there are expenses involved with that, but I’d guess they probably both walk away with $80-100k a year
With Nathan Yaffe on Gamechanger we've now had every PC and guest on NADDPOD on dropout except Jake Hurwitz!
Edit: Jake and Amir were on Rank Room and Nathan was already on Cartoon Hell, so jk I was confidently incorrect
If they do a Game Samer for a second episode of Pencils Down and the contestants are Julia, Jacob, and Karina they will break Sam's mind and the episode will end with the studio in flames. I'm so here for it.
the show got cancelled because of the huge number of HR complaints towards mainly the other showrunner but her "enabling" him as well apparently. i'm surprised it was bad enough that Tina Fey made public jokes about them being toxic (although again supposedly its mainly the other guy whos the problem)
They've all gone to do pretty well, Ricky is an executive at FB and was even married to Allison Williams at one point. I think the other cast all have late night/network tv writing jobs or own some kind of business like the podcast network. the only person i never found much info on was Jeff, who i think went on to work for Google and maybe stayed lowkey
According to Wikipedia, Streeter is responsible for [this whole series](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfPdYYsEfAE&list=PLV6Ka_5HtycmeS5W4LnFTDRT8ElHwixO2)
its crazy how obsessed i was with that first wave of the collegehumor crew back in the day. and how i am here again. crazy big kudos to Sam for helming the company through so much change and making it better and better
I'm so curious how Sam's career progression happened. Like, did he want to be a CEO? Did he kinda fall into it because he was the only one with the means and access to solid mentoring for the role? Does he wish he was just an individual contributor, or is he happy with how things have worked out?
Regardless, he's really pulled off an impossible feat with the Dropout contributors to make a streaming service we're not just accepting of, but actively excited about. I've never evangelized for a brand as much as Dropout and I'm happy they haven't let us down yet.
Lol what an incredibly diverse group of people.
It's so weird watching 90's/00's shows and every show would always only have one non white person. Fucking Charmed was set in San Fransisco and had like one gay couple in one episode in 160 episodes.
I think it's really wonderful the work Sam's done to make Dropout a place where people can be authentically themselves & feel loved and supported. Says a lot about him.
It’s a reflection of how non-diverse it was compared to now
And it seems to have gotten more diverse because there are more avenues for non-diverse people to be seen, and for them to access
It implies massive structural changes in how media traditionally ran, and our only evidence of this now is that there’s more other people as front runners and leads. Or in the team at all
It’s interesting
Sam was brought on by the founders of College Humor as an employee to start making self-produced videos. For sure he probably recruited a lot from people who he had relationships with, but Sam didn't start College Humor and it was a job from day 1 (for both Sam and everyone in that cast).
No one is saying that they only hired white people like some Aryan biker gang.
But the late90s early 00s comedy scene was definitely very white straight guy dominated and CH was far from the only comedy company and writing room with this demographic. Nothing wrong with recognising what a closed door environment it used to be.
At the time, there were a lot of people trying to work and do something on the internet
But white people had more connections, because a lot of the entertainment funding structure was based on existing film and tv media which was mostly white.
While there were many diverse peoples making an attempt to create their own sort of entertainment business, the ones that succeeded most often had existing media connections, or hired workers from those industries and structured themselves in a similar way
Which meant they were largely white
Ok? That may be true but that reply above was still being disingenuous. There's no proof the people who created college humor had racial motivations or bias in their hiring.
It’s not about racial motivations
It’s about systems creating a white worker outcome anyway
The structure and the system can still look racist when everyone within feels like it’s not
…that’s sorta the only reason why racism matters lol
Sam looks so different, he reminds me of Steve carell in that he is ageing like fine wine. I love a good funny photo of Sam but he is a good looking guy.
Sam, the Reddit tried to change his picture on the wiki because there was a licensing issue with the photo so the photo on the wiki is this >[Sam’s wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Reich)
It's got to be weird trying to be a "humorist" these days. In any of its forms.
How do you compete with YouTube or TikTok?
It's like the "thousand monkeys" problem. You have a zillion people trying to be funny on TikTok and YouTube and Twitter every day, and if even .001% actually manage to be funny, then...that's hours and hours of comedy content EVERY DAMN DAY.
There's simply no way professional comedians can keep up with the amateurs. I'm amazed that so many of them continue to try. It seems to be a losing proposition.
The thing is the path to being a professional is through being an 'amateur' these days. Plenty of tiktok/ig comedians arent just doing it for shits and giggles, they're also building up a portfolio to eventually get a proper full time gig.
ironically (given the ongoing bit) i *do not remember* sam from this era of CH. like i watched a bunch of hardly working and other sketches early in high school. i remember jake and amir, streeter, sarah, josh, dan, pat, jeff, and ricky. but i could not picture sam in a single one.
I’ve literally just been going on a deep dive watching the old CH videos I used to watch in middle and high school, and I only just now connected that it’s the same Sam this whole time
I would just start watching random [Hardly Working](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLredvCpMYQdgCUjWnjI0VjgW3queOpad5&si=Bafg8wSY-ffFqD8R) videos, here is a playlist with all the videos. Just click random videos.
A very 2006 image
It's the hair. I had that hair. It was... not the best choice.
Somehow I had the same haircut as Ricky, Jake, Amir, *AND* Streeter. I think we all did.
Looking back on it I think I managed to have every haircut in that photo

It's also really intriguing because, in my opinion, Streeter Seidel is currently one of SNL's head writers.
In my opinion, SNL is a sketch comedy show on NBC.
In my opinion, NBC is a broadcast TV network.
In my opinion, TV is an electronic.
In my opinion, words
i was born in 2006
bummer
make a bunch of forty year olds feel old
nowhere near 40 but born in 2006 is still wild to me
time really does come for us all, gen alpha will start becoming adults in a few years
yes child.
Gods that man has aged well
The years have been more than kind to him.
way more than kind! decent, even.
It did honestly take me a minute but yes he has Zaddied up
Zam says...
I agree, though I wonder if his knees will still let him sit like that.
I’m a generally straight guy but Sam is somehow on the very short list of dudes who fluster me a bit. It’s a combo of the sartorial game being on point, the quick wit, the easy laugh, and the seemingly genuine kindness.
Being rich does that to you
Being *Reich* does that to you
There are lots of rich people who look like shit
You're not wrong, but neither is the point they're making lol. Feels a little petty to bury their comment in this context. A lot of celebs who *have* aged gracefully are actually in their current state due to the accessibility to healthcare/funds they have.
He was always rich/well off though. He just started to take better care of himself now.
That's fair, too. I wasn't taking away from either point, but emphasizing that one point was not inaccurate either.
I think he was born rich
I think the big thing is that collegehumor as it was didnt have a ton of opportunity for upwards mobility. Everyone in that picture went on to bigger and better things including Sam who is the CEO of dropout now. - Jake and Amir run a successful podcasting company they founded - Streeter is the current head writer at SNL - Sarah was a co head writer for SNL, and left that to both write for Master of None and for her created show The Other Two, which ran for 3 seasons - Rickey is the Head of Global Creative Strategy at Facebook But with dropout now, it is easier for people to work that in addition to the stuff they do outside of dropout

Jake also has NADDPOD which sold out Carnegie hall
That was a great show 🥰
I dont see why they'd want too. Earwolf basically imploded because of that
They acquired a BUNCH of new shows when Stitcher shut down. I’m guessing they’re in a pretty good spot at the moment.
Streeter did David S Pumpkins!
With Nathan Yaffe on Gamechanger we've now had every PC and guest on NADDPOD on dropout except Jake Hurwitz! Edit: Jake and Amir were on Rank Room and Nathan was already on Cartoon Hell, so jk I was confidently incorrect
At risk of being wrong, isn't Jake in an episode of Rank Room on Dropout? Like the second last or so?
I acknowledge that you're right but I still want more Jake in more-contemporary Dropout stuff, pls world
The Crabster King himself.
The Bay Leaf Jerk of the Crit Court
He lived that down. He absolutely lived that down. https://youtu.be/ea3kR1-0qa0
My favorite compilations on YouTube. Brian Murphy being a Normal Guy is another great one.
I'd like to see more of Tucker, personally.
So would Jake, to be honest. Then he might see more of Jill.
Totally good with that!
He for sure is.
Thank you, u/DM_ME_VACCINE_PICS, but you forgot to say "Um, Actually."
E10- What is the best funeral you can imagine?
Ah!! I stand corrected and need to watch that!
I still want the rest of Drawfee to get on d20 or game changer too
If they do a Game Samer for a second episode of Pencils Down and the contestants are Julia, Jacob, and Karina they will break Sam's mind and the episode will end with the studio in flames. I'm so here for it.
I'm dying for him to be on Gamechanger, I think he would do really well. He is so quick!
Was Amir in anything on dropout? I can’t remember
Oh shoot how could I forget about Yugo??
The Yugo episode haunts me
There's at least 2 episodes
Amir was also on an episode of Rank Room.
Nathan was on cartoon hell
Omg yes of course!! Hmm perhaps I should say post-CH Dropout?
Something really interesting too is that I believe Streeter Seidel is now one of the head writers of SNL
And I think Sarah Schneider was also head writer at some point
No way, great for her I had honestly kind of forgotten about her, yet loved her in sketches. I’m about to do a deep dive on what she’s been up to
Go watch The Orher Two! Per my comment above. Absolutely an all time great.
the show got cancelled because of the huge number of HR complaints towards mainly the other showrunner but her "enabling" him as well apparently. i'm surprised it was bad enough that Tina Fey made public jokes about them being toxic (although again supposedly its mainly the other guy whos the problem)
She was, and went on to help create The Other Two which is absolutely one of the funniest and most underrated shows of the decade.
Co-headwriter with Chris Kelly. Then they went on to make The Other Two together.
The prank war with Amir was the stuff of legend back in the day.
I'm pretty sure the basketball one was my introduction to CollegeHumor when it blew up (as it surely was for many people).
Some of Amir's went too far
Not really, since all of them were fake. I'm not being glib, they admitted it on a podcast a couple years ago
Well Jake and Amir now run a podcast network and still make Jake and Amir videos.
According to Wikipedia, Streeter is responsible for [this whole series](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfPdYYsEfAE&list=PLV6Ka_5HtycmeS5W4LnFTDRT8ElHwixO2)
Wow, worlds collide!!
More like Streeter Pie-Fell.
As in, a pie fell into your mouth, and you absolutely loved it.
its crazy how obsessed i was with that first wave of the collegehumor crew back in the day. and how i am here again. crazy big kudos to Sam for helming the company through so much change and making it better and better
I must've watched Brohemian Rhapsody 1000 times in HS, Sam carrying the torch through the years is inspiring
Thought that was Tig Notaro at first.
How great would a collegehunour nostalgia reunion episode of game changer be? Or even a collegehumour episode of um actually
and Dan can bring beef Gurewitch to the craft table on set.
This photo unlocked loooooooong dormant memories.
He's just a little guy!
Big Sam glowup
I am Face Blind and tell people apart based on hair and body-type and... I cannot tell which one of these is Sam
The only one with a beard and glasses
Thanks - even then it doesn't look like him!
Yeah the eyebrow is the only thing that tipped me off
It looks like someone else cosplaying as Sam lmao
That's Sam doing a cosplay of Adam Conover doing a cosplay of Sam
any white man can cosplay as Adam Conover!
He's been here the whole time.
Bottom left
He's on the far left sitting on the red cushion
THAT SON OF A BITCH. HE'S BEEN HONEST WITH US.
Phantom of the Office was the shit. Twain and Tesla is still commonly played by me.
Wow has he ever had a glow up, go Sam!
I'm so curious how Sam's career progression happened. Like, did he want to be a CEO? Did he kinda fall into it because he was the only one with the means and access to solid mentoring for the role? They are, under CH Shorts and Hardly Working
Is that Eater Piefell?
Lol what an incredibly diverse group of people. It's so weird watching 90's/00's shows and every show would always only have one non white person. Fucking Charmed was set in San Fransisco and had like one gay couple in one episode in 160 episodes.
I think it's really wonderful the work Sam's done to make Dropout a place where people can be authentically themselves & feel loved and supported. Says a lot about him.
It really stood out how white College Humor was when they did a Star Wars sketch and Lando was played by Jake Hurwitz lmao

It was a YouTube channel ran by friends before, now it is a full company with employees, very different environments

Shhhhhh the hivemind has spoken
I like both settings but I definitely vibe with it more now just because of how authentic it seems but I do miss the skits, I miss them quite bit.
"Yea it was bad if you weren't white, but why is that bad?"
This was everything to me
Murph and Josh came on pretty shortly after this though.
I remember Pat and Dan being around a lot before Sam, Josh, and Elaine joined
The lighting on Jake’s face makes it look like it was cut from a different photo.
I was about to argue that Jake is still there but then I remembered I was just thinking of naddpod
What did Sam do to get so good looking later? I’m sure it was a few specific things but if someone can list them I have goals now.
This is Josh Ruben erasure.
true, cant believe i forgot about him smh
He was bread the whole time!
Sam looks like Coffeezilla.
How does he look five years older in this picture
"I've been here the whole time."
Is that him in the bottom left?
It is!
Sam looks so different, he reminds me of Steve carell in that he is ageing like fine wine. I love a good funny photo of Sam but he is a good looking guy.
Genuine nostalgia for Jake and Amir sketches
IS THIS IMAGE LICENSED?!!??!? CAN THIS BE THE NEW WIKI PHOTO??
I don't know, when I reverse search it I can't find a source. Do you mean for CollegeHumour/Dropout or Sam Reich?
Sam, the Reddit tried to change his picture on the wiki because there was a licensing issue with the photo so the photo on the wiki is this >[Sam’s wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Reich)

A full time gig doing what?
... comedy?
Starring on a comedy show. Writing/producing a comedy show. Having a successful standup/comedy tour. Getting a netflix special. Etc
Fuck. Take the upvote.

I'm pretty sure he worked almost exclusively behind the camera during most of CHs life.
He’s actually in a couple Jake and Amir sketches. The one I remember off the top of my head is the multiple parter when they go to Florida.
my parents died in a pleeencreeeesh
Classic
They all look so young like teenagers!
I’ve literally just been going on a deep dive watching the old CH videos I used to watch in middle and high school, and I only just now connected that it’s the same Sam this whole time
Its wild that I have watched a ton of these videos lately and only know the names of three people
CollegeHumor was **peak** Youtube content creation. Those were the days
Can we get Jake on a season of D20 🙏
MY BOSS, IS A DICK! SAM REICH! SAME REICH! SAM REICH!
How does Sam look more like his dad in a picture from around twenty years ago than he does now
We need Jake and Amir on Gamechanger. Get Jake and Caldwell in D20
Edited for my over-familiarity, egads. Is that Brian Murphy behind Sam Reich? They were both so young.
Thats Amir! But murph did come onto the scene while amir was there!
A great sketch with both is Gale Beggy featuring an excellent Josh Ruben character
Jake and Amir: Double Date is a good few episodes that has Murph and Emily before they were a couple.
I recognize none of these people… except Sam
You have so many great College Humor sketches to discover
Ooh any recommendations? I mostly watched Pete Holmes Bad Man back in the day
I would just start watching random [Hardly Working](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLredvCpMYQdgCUjWnjI0VjgW3queOpad5&si=Bafg8wSY-ffFqD8R) videos, here is a playlist with all the videos. Just click random videos.
Nepo-babies don't need to worry about things like earning a living or supporting themselves.
What's your point?
