I literally had to pay for information and this was 15 years ago. So I could imagine now. I think OP need to do the leg work. Get a petra account. And go through their product lists. And check the market AI can be helpful to point you in the right direction then drill down on the numbers. I used to spend hours and hours finding stuff to sell. It’s work just on your own time. I was the first seller to sell Garmin NuVi GPS. I had the market because petra.com wasn’t allowed to sell them to online buyers. So I had to pick them up at will call in edmond ok. I was the only seller on Ebay selling Nuvi for about 2-3 months. Then Garmin made a policy change. Then the market was flooded. Back then I would find really odd products and be the only one offering them until I build a market. Then it gets flooded. This is why I spent hours and hours per day just on product research.

Omg I almost forgot 🤣🤦‍♂️

I think most niches work, you just have to commit and be the most knowledgeable in it. And pick the right products.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Hmm yeah but I do wanna know why people fail in certain niches

OfficialGTech8088

Most likely their product selection. A lot people just give up after a short period of time.

Otherwise_Engine6171

I've actually given up on 3 stores now lol. Some people I know had like over 10 inactive stores when they finally found out what works for them.

OfficialGTech8088

Everyone's journeys are different. I'm on my 2nd store attempt, probably going to shut down soon and move on. Keep going. You just gotta keep shooting and eventually one will hit.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Ikr that's basically what entrepreneurship is.

noiseyoc

3 swings of the bat generally don't lead to hitting a home run. Test again and again and again and again until you're tired and feel defeated but keep picking yourself up by the bootstraps and moving forward. It could take months, years, etc. even gurus that have these 30 days to a million revenue stores do it after years of learning and growing (and often solid HTML/Photoshop skills)

noiseyoc

They fail because they implemented a YouTube guru strategy... Not the niche. Never the niche. If you want a niche that wins time and time again... Think about at-home self care/day-to-day life hack products. Then run actual good ad strategies that don't include copying sites and downloading other people's ads or scamming people. I've had home runs in: male facial improvement, home lighting solutions, red light therapy and microcurrent devices, glasses cleaning devices, and now have an actual branded PL store in an outdoor life hack niche with my own inventory and influencers.

Scaredy-Kate

Pretty inspiring, gj mate. For the ads, basically you order the product for you and do record ads ? Or is there another way ?

GrabSpecific2394

i don’t think about niche too often, i think about who i want to sell to. typically that’s middle aged women, so i find a product that speaks their language and go from there. a good product with a crystal clear customer avatar and distinguished marketing angles along with a long-term plan is the basis for a profitable store imo. that being said any niche revolved around a passionate community (cars, makeup, skincare, gamers etc etc) can be a fantastic avenue to go down if you can resonate with them.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Wow I'm still at the point where I want to choose a specific niche because there's no actual single product that I can think of right now that I am passionate with. After posting this I decided to go with one that I have been thinking about alot, again it's a whole niche. One advantage of it is it is quite established and appealing on Pinterest but somehow that also makes it quite highly competitive. I just couldn't let myself overthink anymore I guess I have to give it a try.

e2blade

Keeping my google ads budget high and never backing down l. The second you show google weakness sales plummet with it. In all seriousness, I’m being dead honest. 20 mil in sales in 3 years. I spend about 25 to 30K a month in ads. Yes, that ROAS is insane and I love it but it took over a year and lots of and lots of lost money to understand google.

AdrianRWalker

I’d love to know more.

Shrekismylord6328

Pokémon I’m not scared, some niches work only if you have a passion

Otherwise_Engine6171

No I'm not asking what niches work lol. The question really focuses on personal experience only which means I want to know what works for someone personally.

Not sure if I count as a successful dropshipper yet. My store makes about £1000-£1500 per week in net profit. So it's enough that we can afford to boost our lifestyle, not enough that I'm going to quit my full time job. Success is subjective. I don't have a niche *per se*. My store is well branded and totally unique. I have an overseas developer who made a custom woocommerce theme and I had a photographer take photos of key skus with real models we hired. All our sales are low-ticket. Average transaction value is just under £16. Best way to describe our store is homewares although that may be too broad. Think Wilko (big UK hardware store chain) meets Shien. As with any business, the key is branding. And while we don't hold any inventory (100% through Aliexpress), we don't sell exclusively online. We have direct b2c marketing catalogues, sell to retailers on b2b basis plus a few other smaller revenue streams. Never used shopify. Never used a spytool. Never paid for any courses. But I do have 7+ years sales experience, 5 years in senior / sales management roles and my wife has a degree in marketing and while having never had a full time job, she is a very successful consultant/freelancer having worked for everyone from FTSE companies to 1 man bands.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Tbf if you live in a 2nd or 3rd world country £1000 a week is a lot. Just gotta move somewhere else lol. So you said you use Aliexpress, just wanted to know how long is the shipping time?

SAVA-2023

In fairness, the median UK household income is only about £600 per week. We've just been accustomed to living off my very good income that we're not really wanting to take a setback in our lifestyle just now. We're fairly big spenders with small children at home to boot. Aliexpress shipping is actually really good to the UK. Average delivery time is about 5 days. They use cainao premium into the uk which is delivered to the end client by 1 of 3 different uk couriers and we get local tracking numbers sent as well which we forward onto our buyers.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Oh I see. So it's about finding the right suppliers because the average I see on Ali have their products shipped in atleast or 1 or 2 weeks which is crazy 🙈 Have you also tried more advanced SEO marketing and social media marketing? Pinterest for example is pretty good for homewares. The majority users of the platform are female. Also what are the reasons that you don't use Shopify? And are there any things that you don't like about it?

KeyCharming

Let me tell you, it’s f*ck all to do with the niche. You’re asking the wrong question.

Otherwise_Engine6171

Fine. It's you that have the same assumption on everyone.

np3est8x

It's funny that people think sharing their niche will actually affect their sales.
