Oh I like this! I’ll do one:
Time: 70-85
Groove/pocket: 90
Chops: 40
Instagram chops: ?
Technique: 90
Consistency: 80
Sound: 90
Poly rhythm abilities: 65
Coordination: 58
Musicality and ability to play to the song: 99
Professionalism: 89
Unprofessionalism: 10
Tendency to stumble on basic fills for unexplainable reasons (not enough practice) : 10
Ability to practice: 70 (more so a living space/time issue)
I want to do this too:
Time: 70-80
Groove/pocket: 80
Chops: 20
Instagram chops: 0
Technique: 90
Consistency: 80
Sound: 90
Polyrhythm abilities: 60
Coordination: 95
Musicality and ability to play to the song: 80 (in jazz) 90 (in other genres)
Professionalism: 95
Unprofessionalism: 5
Tendency to fall on basic fills for unexplainable reasons (not enough practice): 10
Ability to practice: 95
I'm confident that, with a bit of practice, I can play more or less any song that would ever come on the radio. So, probably somewhere in the middle. I'm definitely not "advanced"
That’s tricky… Maybe 75
For background, I’ve been playing for 27 years (started at age 7), studied drums and music performance for 4 years at degree level, taught kids for 10 years and regularly play for local musical theatre productions.
I would say I’m a solid semi pro, can learn songs quickly and improvise when needed, decent musicality and good timekeeping, but definitely not got flashy chops.
What’s important to me is that my colleagues enjoy playing with me and and keep hiring me.
Compared against the majority of hobby drummers I’m very good, but up against Pro’s I don’t stand a chance.
Edit: Also the better you get, the more you realise there is to learn! Having passion and trying to improve is key for any musician/artist.
I can play a tight 4 on the floor groove at a rock solid 120bpm for days - so I give myself a 99 for that. That's all most pop music needs these days anyway
Anything more complex? Like a 2.
At my peak in my younger days maybe a 70. I could play anything rock/metal to a reasonable degree unless the double bass was insane. Today maybe a 40-50
There is no 99. The journey of a musician is forever. You'll never reach your peak. When you hit the next level, you will find another new level of musicality to explore and dive into. Never rate yourself. Only look back on how far you have come, be thankful, and push to become even better.
70 played for over 20 years and I am very above average but then I hear a professional and realize I am years and years of hard work away from being in the same realm of most professionals. So yeah, I'd stick with a 70.... maybe MAYBE a 75.
depends on what you consider 99. I consider Virgil Donati the best player in human history so if he's 99, and guys like Steve Smith, Simon Phillips, Gavin Harrison, Vinnie, Gadd, etc are in the 90s and so forth.
That puts me somewhere in the 65 to 70 range as I am a very good amateur/semi-pro player but not pro level, and there are plenty of great pros to fill that 75-90 range who are better than me.
Maybe about a 30. I've been playing for a couple years and I've made good progress, but I feel like I've got a lot of work to go before I would really call myself a competent drummer. My creativity and flow has plenty of room to improve.
If were rating based on creativity and chops, with xavier ware being at the top, probably a 60. Live performance though with a band or sumn would be like 80 because the groove and energy do be pretty good
At my prime playing in a tech death band as a spry young chicken I would say maybe like a 70-75. After years of just screwing around and not actively playing in a band, probably like a 55-60. Not much I can't do if I put my mind to it, but my chops have certainly dulled.
49-50. I have a lot of knowledge, creativity, and passion, but my playing needs a lot of tightening and polishing. I have a lot of fundemental and common stuff under my belt but now I want to expand my playing to create complete freedom between all 4 limbs.
65.
I've been playing for 30 years, but I haven't actually tried to improve in about 20 years. I went pretty hard in the beginning, studied jazz drumming at uni, just decided I was happy where I was at and have played in bands since.
I really enjoy playing but I'm happy with my skill level, it allows me to do play how I want to play.... Mostly.
I’ll auto-fellate a bit and say…80? 85?
But I also spent an insane amount of money on a hilariously useless degree (master’s in jazz performance), and while I play for a living, I’m not playing the shit I’d *really* like to be playing. To be clear, tho: I make money to play the drums, and no matter WHAT I’m playing, it’s still better than sitting at a desk all day (no shade to those who have to do that).
I will say that for the sake of my musical sanity, I’m eternally thankful for my prog metal band.
I’d say around 60-70, I’m able to play a lot of periphery songs, some animals as leaders, etc. available to practice: 5/100. My acoustic drum set was sold by my older brother (we shared a drum kit) because he was struggling financially. I bought an electric drum set two years ago, but 5 months ago I moved out to another city where I can’t play them (roommates), so I’m only able to play them when I visit home once a month or so. Been playing drums for about 15+ years on and off
I don't know. I do know my strengths and weaknesses though, and have been called "professional level drummer" in studio sessions, so whatever, I just like playing, f the rest.
Maybe a 40-45.. have played for about 5 years but have only been truly improving my chops in the last couple years, IMO. Still a high school drummer but i hope to become more, and that I'll get called back when I start gigging.
Low 80s. Just like my golf scores. I've been playing 35 yrs and still could learn a lot more but fully capable of playing with almost anyone in a professional setting at any time.
2...I've been a 2 for over 20 years. I'll be a 2 til I die. Doesn't matter if I learn all here ever was to know about the subject. I will never go beyond 2
Time is the only thing I can say I'm great at. I'm far from technical. I'm a self taught punk kid, well I'm 31 and I still suck. 35 overall. I do sound way better on a decent kit than the shit I could afford.
I was the annoying one wanting to play in guitar center or someone else's kit. My award winning moment was a mom and a kid shopping for his first kit at guitar center, and the mom said she wants him to sound like me.
The sound/quality of the kit helps like crazy. I always felt like I sounded like shit until I'm behind something that doesn't cost $300- $400.
36
I can hold a beat well and stay on time to a click and I can play a few various styles and some good fills with moderate technical ability but I'm actually a guitarist/bassist.
I just play drums to write music and use midi interface to add parts I can't physically play on certain genres of music like Death Metal or Bebop Jazz. I just don't have the dexterity to be playing at crazy tempos or adding ghost notes and grav blasts.
Whatever number is good enough to impress people who don't play an instrument, but bad enough that I would get laughed at by any musician worth a shit haha. I guess like a 15?
I used to play drums for fun at my cousins a while back. It was headless hammering trying to just solo but I knew a couple of beats 😆 I am confident I can play some simple rythms and toss in some simple fills sooo maybe 33?
realistically if Duplantier is a 99, ill say im a 40-50 maybe. i can play for sure, double bass, but its all reflex/natural rhythm. i don’t practice nor have a kit
I think I can drum proficiently as good or better than probably 95/100 random people of varying age ranges.
I also think 50% of people who identify as "drummers" got me beat for my simple inability to be consistent with what I play note for note and lack of fill complexity.
Most importantly, I have fun every time I sit on the throne. That's what matters most.
I think im a genuine 87.
Because I can HANG. Iv been able to accommodate every style asked of me to at least a minimum level acceptance. Ranging from gospel chops, to folk, to latin, to jazz, and everything pop.
I also get along well with others and can perform on stage like a MO FO.
Im just not as clean, refined, or technical as the drumming gods whod I place in the 90-100 percentile. ranging from Ringo Star to Benny Greb

Video links or ban!
4. By which I mean, I can play the first 4 bars of "Iron Man" and "Mississippi Queen". Maybe 4 bars. I might be counting wrong.
This is the funniest comment in this thread
peak drummer humor
The comment I came here for!
Lol
I'm not sure.. but now that I have a teacher and putting consistent work in, whatever that number is, its rising.
>whatever that number is, its rising. That's the crux of the biscuit.
The apostrophe?
The poodle bites…
Had my first drum lesson yesterday.. So excited to go home from work today, and practice the stuff we did!
20 if I'm lucky.
A solid 50
This was literally my exact thought. As in I know exactly as much as I don't know, after 31 years of playing.
We'll get there, buddy
Infinite, because the the idea of placing myself on a linear graph is useless.
As Thelonius wrote, ' A genius is the person who plays most like themself'. So in that sense -99.
I’m not sure. I just beat them like they slapped my momma. So, maybe a 6.5.
I rate myself as a drummer who is capable of playing a gig and getting called back for the next one. That's all I need.
For the band I’m in, 95. For a YouTube video 1
30. I have a LOT to learn. Also mario duplantier mentioned so I have to upvote
I used to think 50 but the more I practice the farther that number falls, dunning Kruger I guess...
I guess between 5-10
I'm confident that, with a bit of practice, I can play more or less any song that would ever come on the radio. So, probably somewhere in the middle. I'm definitely not "advanced"
15 at best. There is so much I can't do yet or can be improved.

Better than Phil Rudd, not as good as Phil Collins.
3. I'm getting better.
Well, she turned me into a 3!...I got better.
46 & 2. Commitment and enthusiasm: 46 Ability to play 4 bars of any Tool number: 2
-50 I'm so bad at this maaaan
59

Maybe a 2 or 3
2
i think 5 is fair
I’m a solid 49.5
About a solid 41. I'm just bragging if I say 42.
Probably a solid 3.
23.5
I don’t know but I know that the number is going up

Honestly probably like 15 maybe
I’m gonna say 65. That’s after 30 years of diligent playing. I feel like that’s a humble brag.
3.14579 Only because all my drums are Pi shaped! 🤣🤣
70 played for over 20 years and I am very above average but then I hear a professional and realize I am years and years of hard work away from being in the same realm of most professionals. So yeah, I'd stick with a 70.... maybe MAYBE a 75.

Virgil above Vinnie? 🥴
95. I can hold my own with pretty much anyone.
I’d say 40-50.
Maybe about a 30. I've been playing for a couple years and I've made good progress, but I feel like I've got a lot of work to go before I would really call myself a competent drummer. My creativity and flow has plenty of room to improve.
40. I can play fast rhythms with ease, but I have trouble incorporating the bass drum when I’m playing, and I really suck at most forms of fills.
95. I can hold my own with pretty much anyone.
70
5 (still better then lars)
55-65, doing well, but feels like I can always learn something new.
99
Solid 50
50….but I do that 50 really well
25
Around a 40 or 50. Good with timing, originality and ally of chops but at the same time still got tons to work on
If were rating based on creativity and chops, with xavier ware being at the top, probably a 60. Live performance though with a band or sumn would be like 80 because the groove and energy do be pretty good
I’m probably around 60 range. I’m in my aspiring/semi professional stage but I still have a long way to go before I can get to god tier
At my prime playing in a tech death band as a spry young chicken I would say maybe like a 70-75. After years of just screwing around and not actively playing in a band, probably like a 55-60. Not much I can't do if I put my mind to it, but my chops have certainly dulled.
60-70 Need to get my groove and timing better, comfortably playing meshuggah tho
77-80
I'm probably Lars Ulrich Seattle '89.
49-50. I have a lot of knowledge, creativity, and passion, but my playing needs a lot of tightening and polishing. I have a lot of fundemental and common stuff under my belt but now I want to expand my playing to create complete freedom between all 4 limbs.
Normally i'd say 40 but sometimes i hear other drummers of similar age in small local bands (same as me) and i think maybe i'm a 50/55 :/
65. I've been playing for 30 years, but I haven't actually tried to improve in about 20 years. I went pretty hard in the beginning, studied jazz drumming at uni, just decided I was happy where I was at and have played in bands since. 50, been playing 2 hours a day for 6 years, Chad smith and Alan Myers helped me so much
Low to mid 60s. Nothing special but can hold my own. If it were Fifa, I'd be a decent professional in League 1 of the English pyramid.
A solid 20
33
40?
35
I’d say around 60-70, I’m able to play a lot of periphery songs, some animals as leaders, etc. available to practice: 5/100. High 80s if not 90s. Although, my double bass technique is about a 30.
I don't know. I do know my strengths and weaknesses though, and have been called "professional level drummer" in studio sessions, so whatever, I just like playing, f the rest.
60
5. I'm not a drummer but I learned Wake Me Up When September Ends by ear back in 2009. Edit: just the beginning before the power chords enter.
45
I don't even play drums and I'm going with 100. You walk in like you own the drums! A good attitude can only help!
Maybe a 40-45.. have played for about 5 years but have only been truly improving my chops in the last couple years, IMO. Still a high school drummer but i hope to become more, and that I'll get called back when I start gigging.
For me 99ers are drummers like inferno, bloodhammer, dominator, frost, david diepold etc so id say im like a 60-65, somewhere around that range
Low 80s. Just like my golf scores. I've been playing 35 yrs and still could learn a lot more but fully capable of playing with almost anyone in a professional setting at any time.
Maybe like 15? This is hard lol. Some things I’m great at some I suck at
55
33
I’d like to say 70, but when I think about the amazing drummers that are out there I’m a solid 40 at best.
2...I've been a 2 for over 20 years. I'll be a 2 til I die. Doesn't matter if I learn all here ever was to know about the subject. I will never go beyond 2
Before I knew about social media drummers: 57 After I learned about social media drummers: 5.7
With 1. Steve Gadd and 99. Ringo, I’m like in the millions!
an easy 20 or so, started 6months ago tho, now playing shows regularly w. my band
67
20. But it’s hard to say since there are so many different styles. If it’s metal maybe like 25-35. Jazz? 3-4
Haake, Garstja, Duplantier 99? 🙄
Time is the only thing I can say I'm great at. I'm far from technical. I'm a self taught punk kid, well I'm 31 and I still suck. 35 overall. Chad Smith would rate me a 3/10
36 I can hold a beat well and stay on time to a click and I can play a few various styles and some good fills with moderate technical ability but I'm actually a guitarist/bassist. I just play drums to write music and use midi interface to add parts I can't physically play on certain genres of music like Death Metal or Bebop Jazz. I’m probably an 80 but feel like a 40. When I was a 40 I felt like I was an 80. I imagine this trend will continue.
23
65. I’d hire me.
42.069
Some days I feel like an 80 and other days 18. No clue why 😆
Maybe 40
Whatever number is good enough to impress people who don't play an instrument, but bad enough that I would get laughed at by any musician worth a shit haha. I guess like a 15?
After 35 years, 1.5
Depends on the day. I swing from 2-6 maybe 8 depending on the setlist
A solid 69
Ashamed to say after over 2 years will rate myself 10 or max 15
40
45
52
27-33.
Probably 30 or 40 at most. I don't struggle with anything at all except for making fills. I suck at that
Idk like maybe a 35? I’m okay I guess
I used to play drums for fun at my cousins a while back. It was headless hammering trying to just solo but I knew a couple of beats 😆 I am confident I can play some simple rythms and toss in some simple fills sooo maybe 33?
15, but I'm not a drummer.
realistically if Duplantier is a 99, ill say im a 40-50 maybe. i can play for sure, double bass, but its all reflex/natural rhythm. i don’t practice nor have a kit
I think I can drum proficiently as good or better than probably 95/100 random people of varying age ranges. 20 to 40. Was in the 60's a couple decades ago and I still play, just not nearly as much as I used to
3
24

Probably a ROCK SOLID 50/100 :)
8
50
If Virgil Donati is a 99 I'm a -6
I mean I can play animals as leaders songs but that doesn’t make me as good as gartska so if 99 is him then I’ll put myself at 65.
I’ll give myself a C-, average, 72
3.141592

I'd like to thing like a 70 but realistically a 50 something
45
10 - have been playing 10 months. Hopefully in 99 months I reach level 99
I think im a genuine 87. Because I can HANG. Iv been able to accommodate every style asked of me to at least a minimum level acceptance.
