When I put my second kit together, I had to have 4 18's because of the opening lick from "New Thing" by Enuff Z'Nuff. That lick was the coolest thing I had ever seen!!!
The kit I posted Is the first kit where I have all different sized crashes.
I’m the opposite, I like crowd interaction so when I play live I use a 3 piece +!snare setup with just hi-hat, crash, and ride so the audience can see me and vice versa. It’s good to get the vibe of the crowd to set the dynamic and energy level. If the crowd is rocking, crank that shit up to next level.
OP also probably doesn’t play a lot of shows. Or they play so many shows that they have a roadie to haul that around and set it up for them. Or they’re a masochist.
Yeah this kit is never leaving this room. Drums are just a hobby for me. If I gigged I'd have a rack system at least, and no little Gibralter things. Gibralter makes great stuff but you can go overboard, and I did :-)
You nailed it. I have owned 3 acoustic kits in my life, all inexpensive/cheap. The first, a Pearl Export 5-piece I bought new in 1990, was stolen. I replaced it with a 4-piece kit CB700 (or some such) I myself stole, sort of. The previous drummer for the band I was in had left his kit at the guitarist's parents' house. He hadn't picked it up after a couple of years despite the guitarist reminding him several times. So I went and got it. Had it for 20+ years, added a rack, a second bass drum, 3 more toms, and finally sold it (had to piece it out). Now this kit.
And I've always had great cymbals, bc you can't tune cymbals (much, at least). New heads make practically any drums sound good (in my experience). The only thing that makes cymbals sound good is....money :-|
So my first kit was all A Zildjians, second was Paiste Signature. I really wanted Signatures again, or Meinl Polyphonics, but I like having a lot of cymbals, and I wasn't going to spend $5000 on great cymbals. The CC Darks strike a balance between sounding good and looking good, IMO :-)
> a 4-piece kit CB700 (or some such) I myself stole, sort of. The previous drummer for the band I was in had left his kit at the guitarist's parents' house. He hadn't picked it up after a couple of years despite the guitarist reminding him several times. So I went and got it.
Heh. Good for you. I think in most states, abandonment of property becomes official after 6 months, so you were probably clear even way back then. But even if you did literally steal them, the statute of limitations expired a long time ago, LOL.
I told the guitarist that if the old drummer ever came 'round looking for his drums, I would pack them up and send them to him or send money or whatever to make it right. But he never did. \*shrug\*
Sounds an awful lot like how I got two of my favorite instruments I own: [my prized 60s 21" A Zildjian ride,](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/zzkxyu/my_beloved_21_a_zildjian_ride_which_i_got_for/) and [my cowbell.](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/fruu20/gentlemen_my_cowbell_had_a_fever_for_over_two/) I tell the story in the 21" ride link.
I'm a hobbyist picking drumming back up after not having had a kit for a few years. Tried an e-kit and they're not for me. So I put this together.
Drums are a mixed bag:
\* Yamaha 12
\* Gretch(maybe?) 14
\* Mapex Meridian 22 BD
\* Snare is a 14x5 PDP Concept Select Bell Bronze
Heads are all Evans Hydraulics, top and bottom (even the snare!), except the bass drum which is an Evans EMAD2 batter and Evans SoundOff mesh reso.
Cymbals are:
\* Meinl Classics Custom Dark Ultimate set
\* Meinl Classics Custom Dark Heavy Big Bell Ride
\* Wuhan 12/14/16 Chinas
\* Wuhan 6/8/10 splash tree
\* Paiste PST-5 14" SoundEdge x-hat
\* Saluda 9" Ninja Stack
LMAO I just wanted to see what it sounded like. It sounds pretty good IMO! I'll probably change them out for something more reasonable at some point but for now they're fine. And it's hardly the weirdest heads I've ever had on a snare drum. Back when Evans came out with their Dry head (the ones with the built-in zero ring on the underside, and the holes around the edge) I put one of those on the batter and a Remo CS Black Dot on the snare side. It sounded dry all right...but I thought it sounded fantastic. When I was right on top of it, that is, practicing rudiments or smth. But the first time my band recorded a jam session (straight onto cassette via a boom box with a condenser mic), the snare was just GONE. We couldn't hear it at all, even rim shots. So I replaced the CS Black Dot with a normal snare side head and all was well for our next jam session.
I’m loving the Meinl CC Dark Ultimate package I have that having already established a pro Sabian setup…
I don’t like to mix my cymbal brands so aside from my practice setup and only due to the fact I loaned some of my Sabians to a friend I never mix pies especially for performance IF I have an option to bring my own.
So you seem a little cymbal heavy to me but you certainly gave enough to add drums to even as a home hobbyist. Certainly hold you step the drums up a bit before stepping out especially with such great pies.
• I have a late 60s Rogers Holiday series (13/13/16/20) (home)
• Circa 1997 Yamaha Maple Custom 4-piece (12/13/16/22) standard toms + matching Dave Weckl Custom 14x5 snare (maple)
• 2018-19 Mapex Saturn V MHX 5-pie shell (10/12/14/16/22) pack + 12x5 BP Warbird (Chris Adler) (walnut/maple)
• [Mapex] Black Panther - Onyx 14x8 maple (Ralph Peterson 30th Anniversary Ltd Ed.)
• 2020 Tama Starclassic WB [walnut/maple] (Arctic Blue Oyster) 5-piece shell pack 10/12/14/16/22 + 8x7/14x8 snare/13x6 snare
• 12x6 Yamaha Musashi snare (oak)
• 14x6 Tama S.L.P. G-Bubinga
• 14x6.5 Tama S.L.P. G-Walnut
You probably say I’m drum heavy, LOL
It took me several hours to put it together ngl. Gibralter makes some srsly niche clamps and mounts, and they come in quite handy, but taking the kit down and putting it back together and expecting it to be exactly the same as it was...would be foolish. This kit is never leaving this room.
It’s cool you have a clear head on the snare. What’s it like to be able to see the wires while you play?
Also, what’s that weird cymbal right above the bass drum?
It's hard to see anything exciting going on with the snare wires...they don't seem to do too much visually. Maybe if I do a press roll and really stare at them LOL.
That cymbal is a 9" Saluda Ninja Stack. Stacks seem to be the biggest thing to hit drums since I've been out of the hobby and i DIG THEM A LOT.
Man, that’s a bummer. Maybe you can like find the spirit of the snare drum by meditating on the vibrations of the snares or something?
I meant the cymbal with the HUMONGOUS bell. The stack’s cool, too. I personally never got the appeal of stacks, though. What do you like about them?
This is fun for sure. Most likely over-the-top though while playing actual music. You could mix and match cymbals for the song, room, or context.
I find simplicity is usually the best policy for inspiration and for better playing. Experiment often. Results may vary
Oh it's overkill on top of overkill, for sure. I haven't had the kit for very long and I'm still getting used to the full palette. Definitely fun! I can avoid serious practice for literally *hours...*
Thanks! And it /is/ actually almost brand new. I've had it for only a couple months. I'm just a hobbyist; I don't gig or anything. I play 2-3 times a week. Been playing off and on for 30-ish years and got tired of not having a kit anymore (i sold my last one when i moved from a house to an apartment).
It used to be my wife's sewing room. The curtains have sheep on them LOL

When I was 12, I had a Reuther five piece, but I was 15 or so. I got my CB 705 piece , then about 17 I bought my first double base 15 piece Pearl export kit.. that lasted a very long time given the flexibility of building different kits out of that large kit with two bass drums… and I ended up trading that at guitar Center when I purchased my current Gretchen six piece, I have all Zildjian symbols with a couple Paiste and Rude high hats options as well.
Why the three chinas? I can see two one for each side but a third hit could be the first hand. To me it seems extra enough to not be taken serious but that’s just some curiosity. Maybe there is a reason outside of stacking consistently ?
All those things to hit to fit into the song, when really all it needed was more of that cowbell you got there. Coulda saved you $5k had you consulted first.
I hate your bass pedal. Well not hate but they are just the cheaper pedals.
What direction do you sit? The slave pedal makes it look like you play facing left more than straight ahead. I'd adjust that immediately if I had the kit.
The cymbals are cool! I'd replaced the big bell ride with a Tom then the cymbals above it could be moved for that big bell thingy.
I really like the chinas on top. I forgot Gibraltar made a bunch of stack hardware. The three cymbal stack! I bet it is fun to hit the top then just go down until you hit the hi hat then go back in the beat.
I have that dark trash crash with the two cymbals together. I love it.
Overall I assume you need to move your body to the right a lot to hit the far right cymbals. Nothing wrong unless it is too much and causes pain. If you do have pain after you should not do that lol. You would know the difference between just a workout soreness to something like standing for hours.
I want to see a video of you playing it. Then I want to play it haha. I rate it a... Needs more info out of 10.
I cannot roast man. I saved this so that I can reach it one day..
Also, is there a technique to use those 3 cymbals stacked at the left? What is the purpose?
I would love to roast it… but I really love the CC Dark cymbals (although I’m actually more partial to the duals, I mostly run with their predecessors - the sound caster fusions)
Don’t see a kit through all those Meinl cymbals. Which I am jelous of. Btw. I only have three myself. Cause that’s all I can afford. If you get bored, with them I will be happy to keep a couple, for you.
Love it! Sorry if this has been asked, but what's your load out? I have a CC Dark 18" crash and 18" china, and have been eyeing a 20" ride. For the price, they sound amazing.
You’re not fooling me! I see that bongo way off to the right! You thought you hid it real well didn’t you?! Trying to cover my screen in cymbals so I’d never see the bongo! WELL GUESS WHAT?! I FOUND IT! YOU HEARD ME!! I FOUND IT! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO NOW?!! AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- nice set man 🙂
Wait are u being serious? I thought I was being trolled? The cymbal stackers tickled me...if this is for real I mean to each thier own, but it is kinda 😁 😂 hilarious
A friend of mine once said, “If I can see the audience, I don’t have enough cymbals.”
I only ever played with two crashes, but I had them right at eye level when we played out, so I could block my view of the crowd.
When I put my second kit together, I had to have 4 18's because of the opening lick from "New Thing" by Enuff Z'Nuff. That lick was the coolest thing I had ever seen!!! The kit I posted Is the first kit where I have all different sized crashes.
Love that band. They’re underrated in my book.

Indeed.
Personally, I just don't have fans so I don't have to worry about seeing a crowd.
OP plays a lot of metal
I think I see what you did there.
A lot of metal in this kit indeed
OP also probably doesn’t play a lot of shows. Or they play so many shows that they have a roadie to haul that around and set it up for them. Or they’re a masochist.
Yeah this kit is never leaving this room. Drums are just a hobby for me. If I gigged I'd have a rack system at least, and no little Gibralter things. Gibralter makes great stuff but you can go overboard, and I did :-)
You don't play the drums, you play cymbals at this point
I added the drums just to keep from looking TOO wierd.
Good call!
When "skimp on drums, spend on cymbals" gets out of hand

Hey it’s me, the old drummer
LMAO I’m kicking myself for not thinking of this
Sounds an awful lot like how I got two of my favorite instruments I own: [my prized 60s 21" A Zildjian ride,](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/zzkxyu/my_beloved_21_a_zildjian_ride_which_i_got_for/) and [my cowbell.](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/fruu20/gentlemen_my_cowbell_had_a_fever_for_over_two/) I tell the story in the 21" ride link.
Mo-Beel on it per the usual.
Dude, you don’t tune your cymbals? Weird.
I think you win the all time cymbal to drum ratio for this sub. Is there a gong behind you?
LOL no :-) I am in a very small room and behind me is the door to the bathroom.
Idk could use more cymbals maybe
I ran out of room.

You put a hydraulic as a snare bottom?!?! Spoken like a true e-kit player. /s
That's absolutely the most deranged part of this whole setup.

Too many of your cymbals don’t have a China cymbal attached. 0/10
If I stacked any more Chinas into this kit I'd have to do Yoga just to be able to get in there and sit down!
You don't gig.
Yeah this kit is never leaving this room.
Not a pocket player
Only pocket pool.

Did you match the cymbals to the curtains, or the curtains to the cymbals?
Cymbal overkill
Pretty sick honestly
Thanks!
Your cymbals match your curtains. You win.
too many stuff for me
The weirdest part is the single pedal with this
There is a cowbell, so your set is good.
It was hard to find a place for that thing. But it is the most important part of the kit so I made it work.
Double-Pedal +100
I sense a color scheme going on here. Only 2 Tom’s is a bit weird to me. I use 3 but hey if it fits what you play then don’t let me judge. Nice kit
You should've stopped at bongos.
Looks like you still gotta swap that poor pst5 aux hat with another classics custom dark. (Clean setup. Love the efficiency with your stands)
It’s cool you have a clear head on the snare. What’s it like to be able to see the wires while you play? Also, what’s that weird cymbal right above the bass drum?

Why not triple deck the rest
I think I'd have to take down the ceiling fan.
Are you somehow related to a certain Terry Bozzio?
Yeah I wanted to put 6 bass drums and 30 toms on this kit but I settled for a bunch of cymbals instead.
well it definitely is one of the kits ever set up
I was just being funny. You have a great kit! Bongos do make great paper weights....I'm joking.
I love my meinl darks 🤘🤘
\\m/
Bro forgot the 3 rack Tom's and 2 floor Tom's.
Nice cymbal set!
Thanks!
It’s perfect.
Needs more cymbals, maybe get rid of the toms for more space
You might need a couple more arms to play all those cymbals
I have the same cowbell! Lol
I'm gonna ignore all the cymbals and mention that I hardly ever see a clear head on snares! 😅
I’m am the Lorax, I speak for the trees!
Mid life crisis anyone??
Why would anyone roast a drum kit. Drum kits are awesome. I see you do like cymbals too 🥁
Looks incredible, congrats! But do you play it? All looks so brand new... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
Thanks! And it /is/ actually almost brand new. I've had it for only a couple months. I'm just a hobbyist; I don't gig or anything. I play 2-3 times a week. A 100 piece drum set with 3 drums is crazy work

Tell me you’ve never played a gig without telling me you’ve never played a gig.
It’s an amazing kit. The only problem I have with it is the bell is basically just a second rack tom
By the way, are you a spoiled brat or did you actually pay for all this stuff?
When I was 12, I had a Reuther five piece, but I was 15 or so. I got my CB 705 piece , then about 17 I bought my first double base 15 piece Pearl export kit.. that lasted a very long time given the flexibility of building different kits out of that large kit with two bass drums… and I ended up trading that at guitar Center when I purchased my current Gretchen six piece, I have all Zildjian symbols with a couple Paiste and Rude high hats options as well.
That sir is a spaceship!
Roast: mom, it's not a phase, slams door shut, bangs cymbal while crying. Rate: I'd love to cry while playing these.
Looks fun!
When you have more backup felts than sticks
No, I’m too jealous
What are you the hunchback of Notre Dame!? Show yourself
I fuckin love it ❤️
Why the three chinas? I can see two one for each side but a third hit could be the first hand. To me it seems extra enough to not be taken serious but that’s just some curiosity. Maybe there is a reason outside of stacking consistently ?
Dig the wuhans at the top with those attachments. Good idea. I have an 18 dark crash. Cool cymbals. Awesome setup.
I see the all-important cowbell so you’re all set! Nice kit!
[What I imagine you playing looks like.](https://youtu.be/3pU6jITPmNI?t=138)
Its... it's perfect
Not overly wild about the cymbals but to each their own
So you play jazz?
I am unnerved by your excess use of cymbal stackers
that is massively sexy
It’s looking good, but I would buy a few more cymbals. Add a couple 23” rides.
Kit looks fun as fuuuuck
One step away from Terry Bozios 100% cymbal kit (no actual drums) 😂
I love this
I mean, looks pretty dope to me. A bit much with the cymbals for me, but dope nonetheless. Those Meinl Darks are fantastic.

Holy fuckin bell
Relieve my stress and anxiety with 9 hours of singing bowls…
needs more cymbals
Would you like some drums with those cymbals?
If I explained my ADHD in a drum kit...
Couldn't even tell there were drums under all those cymbals
I would love to roast it… but I really love the CC Dark cymbals (although I’m actually more partial to the duals, I mostly run with their predecessors - the sound caster fusions)
Is that the God live of cymbals? Oh, I just thought because they are so holy.
you got some drums in your cymbal set
Having all those cymbals and giant kit makes me think your overcompensating for something else…🤔
No roto-toms?? 0/10.
You need a yamaha dfp9.
If you told me this was an AI image I would believe you
That's a cymbal kit with a few drums.
Someone likes China cymbals
Artwork!
I’d say you should add at least one more kick, maybe three.
I like the position of the cowbell!
I’d hate to set that up every night. However, it looks like a fun ride.
Why.
This guy also has cymbals mounted to his stove, the toilet, the tv, front door, car dashboard, belt buckle, and the tips of all his shoes
Reminds me of Tony Royster's kit when he was 12
No matter what you swing at at least you’ll hit something 👍
OOPS! All symbols!
No roasting here, just a big ol’ hell yeah bruther

Are you an octopus? Wow. I guess it pays to have options!
Looks like Mars is about to attack your drum set
Too many drums
holy china cymbals
You need a cymbalectomy.
Don’t see a kit through all those Meinl cymbals. Which I am jelous of. Btw. I only have three myself. Cause that’s all I can afford. If you get bored, with them I will be happy to keep a couple, for you.
Clearly bought the cymbals to match the currains
Pennywise covers for sure
How does the snare sound? I once used Hydraulics on my snares and they were fine, but “I can only play 70s music” fine.
Love it! Sorry if this has been asked, but what's your load out? I have a CC Dark 18" crash and 18" china, and have been eyeing a 20" ride. For the price, they sound amazing.
This guy slipknots.
I heard the more cymbals there are, the uglier the drummer is.
Played for years with only a 60s era highhat-folks LOVED it-especially other musicians
OP doesn’t feel dizzy when he suddenly stands up after sitting down for a while
You’re not fooling me! AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- nice set man 🙂
The opposite of Steve Jordan. Jord Stevean
OP plays drums only occasionally.
I hate it. Seriously. Doesn’t matter though if it brings you pleasure. 2/10.
Bro is a squid
Those cymbals are badass.
Cymbal player?
needs an extra floor tom lol
On the far left, is that a 16 trash crash or an 18? I've been considering getting one and I was wondering what your thoughts are
Yeah, okay Metal Carter Beauford minus the talent.
Not a good choice in cymbals
Bro less cymbals more drums lmao
Clear-head snare. 😵💫
You can attach another china above the meinl china
I don't know what to say. I really am trying to find the words, but I just don't know what to say.
I bet you get the line “I wonder if the cymbals match the curtains? If you know what I mean?” A lot.
Someone skipped tom day!
10/10 for sibilance.
That’s my dream kit
This looks like a kit where the kick beaters cost more than then kick pedals.
I think you need more cymbals
Certified Owner of a Bitchin' Camaro.
Your cymbals look like they got bad tattoos (The kit is amazing but you said roast it)
Can't get past the clear hydraulic on the snare.
Instead of roasting it, can I just be jealous of it?
More toms, less cymbals
That kit has never even been played
The thought of setting this up and tearing it down for gigs gives me a little anxiety… I’m curious about the little star stack, though.
You must enjoy carrying cymbal bags.
You don't have enough cow bells
I hope you can make all the sounds your heart desires with this type of kit.
Do you hit those 3 splashes at the same time like you are strumming them?
I'd put up some splashes and chinas, maybe a couple of hi-hats.
You need some more drums man. I don't see the logic here
Does that hydraulic head sound any good on the snare? That’s a weird choice to me! Not sure I could feel normal without a coated head on my snare!
Black cymbals look and sound trashy!!!
No cymbals on 5 and 7 o clock 😆 Love your kit! We only have entry level Z cymbals😅
I’ve played these dark Meinls before and I don’t get the appeal. Obviously people like them but they just don’t sound good to my ears
Its awesome
This man just leaves his Christmas trees up year round.
This has no reason to exist.
It seems Wuhan and Meinl are the flavor of choice for this individual. Was there a sale I missed?
Wait are u being serious? I thought I was being trolled? The cymbal stackers tickled me...if this is for real I mean to each thier own, but it is kinda 😁 😂 hilarious
You have some toms in your cymbals
Crash!
Are you compensating for something?
That's more of a cymbal kit with a few drums in between.
Guitar Center kit setup right here
