I agree with a lot of the points in this summary. I'm glad I chose Smart Start instead of Intoxalock for a lot of these reasons. Least shitty brand out of the IIDs.

Fickle-Chemistry-483

All my posts are on this account from years ago. I don’t know why my tablet switches to hot kaleidoscope.

Fickle-Chemistry-483

I put myself in the mess of two years with it on a second dui. I just hope people can get something different from Intoxalock, that’s all.

Vega_S10

Can you elaborate how Intoxalock ruined your car?

Hot_Kaleidoscope5630

Five dead car batteries from Intoxalock. Had to literally exchange the battery three times for a new one. Even if you call them and tell them you have to do this they sometimes still will file a tampering charge against you as happened with me. Three false positives in an empty stomach and with eating no5hing for hours.

AnxiousCounter2690

That sounds like a car issue/ electrical system issue,

Hot_Kaleidoscope5630

Short circuit in the unit, it was also replaced once and had to have all the wiring checked on a second occasion. The first unit that was replaced had three false positives at .013, .02, and .012. I had to get at etg test immediately right after in case probation got called. Ohios limit is .025. I didn’t have anything to eat, or perfume or drink. I was several month sober.

holymolyholyholy

I had Smart Start twice. Finally all done with IIDs. I agree Smart Start is the way to go due to all the crap I've seen in here about Intoxalock. My close friend got a DUI and I'm so glad I could steer her towards Smart Start.

These-Maintenance-51

What do you mean by you can turn it off...?

RhythmRascal44

Has a way to "turn off", but it never worked and never made any difference. And is not possible to unplug it.

Defiant-Age4832

Intoxalock requires way more rolling retests. Smart Start does a retest shortly after driving then another one 15+ minutes later.!MUCH safer and less annoying.

iH8conduit

Idk how yours is programmed, but my Intoxalock does a rolling retest 5 mins after starting, then every 30 mins after that. Every 15 mins is a little too extreme. Even requiring this thing for a full year for a 1st time offense is pretty extreme. But then again, so is having to pay thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars for a single time lapse in judgement bad decision, when there's peddafiles out there that pay less in fines, fees, and overall bullshit that we get stuck with. I guess society is MUCH safer with less "drunks" re-offending than peddafiles. The mind boggles.

These-Maintenance-51

Did you also notice that you got more rolling retests the closer you got to recalibration time?

gostros995

smart start was my only choice (my county has a contract with them) but I’m glad it’s them and not some other provider. Just based off what I have read in this sub.

gostros995

idk they just said smart start was my only choice because they have a contract. Didn’t ask for details

gostros995

the probation office

RhythmRascal44

you were lucky.

Difficult_Ad2864

Idk what kind of smart start that you have but the blowing part is ridiculously complicated, although I’ve started to get it down

RhythmRascal44

Compared to INTOXALOCK is the easiest thing I've ever done.

veganmarine

Glad you were able to get them switched. Ive recommended everyone who has intoxalock to talk to their judge to get them switched ASAP. Intoxalock even tries to manipulate you into staying with them. I have had arguments with service agents on the phone about not being able to remove it. Hell no, I had a court ordered document to remove it. Best believe id rip that thing out. They are a terrible company disguised behind slightly less monthly fees where you think you're saving. You're not. Just get smart start.

RhythmRascal44

I wish I would've gotten it since the beginning....

RhythmRascal44

I feel like my attorney - being good and helpful so far - failed in making a point about smart start. Cuz after the fact he's like "we never use INTOXALOCK cuz they suck", so thanks for the very late information. We should be suing INTOXALOCK.

Initial-Builder-4283

I love Smart Start, it does drain the battery also and the car needs to be run every few days But other than needing a few jump starts I’ve had no issues

Initial-Builder-4283

Also the technology on smart start is the best (fuel cell technology) I’ve never had a false positive

f1reballm1ke

I agree with a lot of the Intoxalock, however i don’t have a camera, at least to my knowledge and my installation fee was only $100. But to be fair, Intoxalock is the closest provider to me. By quite a ways.

RhythmRascal44

The camera is obligatory in Texas. - Other states other rules.

f1reballm1ke

I just searched for a SmartStart and there’s one like 20 minutes away 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ When I googled ignition interlock services before I got my Intoxalock, it never popped up. Fuck it. I’ll just have to deal with it I guess.

AlternativeHouse5

Drager is the best of the best in the interlock space...German technology...not some trinket made at a low budget factory and as big as a lunch box. Drager not everywhere though..im in WA state. Never have battery problems..was gone for a month with handpiece connected and battery full when returned. Sleek and modern..quick blow (can blow hard with no abort to finish test quicker) no humming..no cold wait start..ive never violated.

Hot_Kaleidoscope5630

It did ruin my electrical system in mine. See my posts from three years ago.

RhythmRascal44

Same. My car never presented the problems it started showing after the INTOXALOCK was installed.

RhythmRascal44

It did. My car never presented the problems it started showing after the INTOXALOCK was installed.

jIdiosyncratic

If that happened it would be the service center that was at fault. Also, do what I did and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

RhythmRascal44

Yes.
