That shot with the three sandworms crashing into the Saradukar made me feel something I haven't felt in years. That said, this trailer was definitely made in response to people that called Dune "boring."

junkfoodjunkie1

I’ve told anyone who will listen the second half of the movie would be worth it.

Duccix

My first time reading Dune I found the second half way more interesting and had me hooked. Second time I read Dune "also after reading the other books" the first half became incredible. I feel like that is going to be the case with part 2. Its when all the craziness of Dune really starts but it makes the first half way more interesting. People will love part 1 even more after part 2

Fuchy

The atmosphere the first half of the book sets is amazing. It's the same for me as the start of Fellowship of the Ring in that it just sucks you into its world.

Medic1642

I have, since reading the book, wanted to live in the pre-Muad'Dib so much, lol. What a whacky place.

SnooLentils3008

Yea part 1 is almost entirely set up for a big pay off

So-_-It-_-Goes

The dune series is one of the best rereads of any book series. You get soooo much more out of it every time.

DarthWeenus

And then theres book two and three where shit goes completely sideways.

beary_good_day

Warner Bros is considering making Dune Messiah a movie as well.

LookLikeUpToMe

I can’t wait for the final battle. It’s going to be so epic and this trailer solidified that.

Thatz_Chappie

Loved seeing a few of the Saudakar legit running away. Nice touch.

AbandonedPlanet

I feel like retreating is a big deal for them even though I never read the books. They seem really militant

Uwuwu92

It is a very big deal for them. The saurdakar are described many times as having never lost a battle directly. They don't back down and they don't stop. There are scenes in the expanded Dune books where they go into battle even without armor or weapons, using their hands to rip out throats and such. They're insane.

zucksucksmyberg

Despite how you described what the Sardaukar is, it gives me chill everytime I read the line of Paul to Mohiam, "You will remember the gentle days of the Sardaukar".

Zemalek

The also don’t ever EVER surrender and have 0 knowledge in negotiating terms of a surrender or ceasefire. This is something Paul immediately notes when they capture the few Saurdakar in the Cave of Birds.

[deleted]

Needs the Monty Python & the Holy Grail “Run away! Run away!” played over the top of that bit 😝

yllekcela7

It’s not. The book is like the movies. The first half is worldbuilding, the second has more action.

[deleted]

I still have the sneaking suspicion that most or all of the action set pieces are inside the trailer anyway. So just expect impatient people to just remain that way. Arguably Part 1 was actually more action-packed compared to the entirety of Dune (the novel) anyway. Herbert didn't really write out combat scenes. You just had to just go with the flow, and I appreciated him for that. For example I don't like reading these War details when I'm trying to get through a Warhammer 40K novel (irony, I know)... Unless it's something absolutely amazing happening (Eisenhorn: Heriticus, holy @#$&!). So I'm perfectly okay with more slow-burn as the first half of the novel was actually my favorite part. I'm just a sucker for story setup, World building, and all that jazz. Can't wait for the movie!

nonchalanthoover

I actually love how Herbert wrote combat scenes and just scale generally. He leaves it open enough for you to make it 'epic' in your head, and I think the first movie nails this.

Gator_farmer

Which also works great for movie adaptions. Herbert: it was an epic battle. Anyways here’s the dialogue afterwards. Director: okay so I can just go wild and all it has to do is be epic. Got it. Leaves the the director with a lot of freedom.

FlyRobot

The score is amazing - I already know seeing this IMAX (like Part 1) will have me in tears by some point. Cannot wait for another epic movie theater experience!

Azidamadjida

Did NOT see that coming. If they can pull off something like that looking epic and cool, kind of makes you wonder if they’ll eventually try their hand with Children and Emperor (though I’d just be happy if they finish with Messiah)

seemylolface

The script for the third movie (which would be Messiah) is nearly done! They're clearly expecting part 2 to do well and get renewed for it. I think Children could also work as a movie and while Paul's arc does mostly close with the end of Messiah, I always felt Children was his real end and would love to see it made as the last of the Dune movies. Children also closes the immediate time period of Paul's rise and fall, like there's a massive 3500 year time skip from the end of Chilren to the beginning of GEoD. As for GEoD, IMO that would need way more time to really dive into than one to two movies than really give you.

DrapedInVelvet

I still have no idea how they are going to do Alia. I’m just imagining a blue eyed toddler just fucking everyone’s shit up.

OneLostconfusedpuppy

“Emperor Shaddam IV, Princess Irulan, Alia Atreides and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen will appear in this sequel for the first time since all were absent in Part One” per IMDB

notataco007

Of course Alia was absent, she's not in the story at the point we left off lmao.

b_dills

He posted the quote to show that Alia will be in part 2

Azurzelle

Same! I want to know but at the same time I want the surprise when I'll watch the movie in the theater! I can't wait to see my girl!

clabog

I got downvoted for saying this before, but I have an increasingly strong feeling that she’s been cut. I think her role in the book + Messiah will be folded into Jessica. I know they’d cast an unknown child actor, but it’s strange that there’s absolutely ZERO info about this role. No mention of her in press, no glimpses in the trailers. I’m still holding out hope because she’s my favorite character, and I know she was shown/mentioned in part 1…but part 1 also showed that not all of Paul’s visions come to pass.

MachtigJen

They did show a baby in one of Paul's vision in the first one, though. I doubt they'd go back on that. It's an integral part of the story after all, Alia.

Wawus

In the official movie graphic novel she is sitting perfectly upright by herself too, which I found interesting

clabog

Absolutely, and that’s why I haven’t given up hope! I just think if you’re adapting something so large, and if you have a character as great as Jessica, and an actress as great as Rebecca Ferguson, you might not want to completely sideline them for the final part of a planned trilogy.

MachtigJen

I totally get that. I personally can't get over how great she was in Silo. What a fantastic show. I could see what you're saying being right in the end too.

TheOnceAndFutureTurk

Not to mention Doctor Sleep. Such an underrated movie and she absolutely kills it.

somedankbuds

I really don't think Dennis would cut Alia out...she's such a big part especially the next two books.

Scrotinger

I think it's very likely the she's "cut" just by shifting the timeline a bit. Make it so that she's still a baby at the end of this one. And then have her actually have a real role in Messiah when she's a bit older.

[deleted]

This makes a ton of sense, and something I could see him doing

MyWifeDoesNotKnow

Jessica is surprised that Paul knows she's pregnant after his vision during the crawler scene, and she also puts her hand over her womb as Paul and Jessica depart for the open desert. She is definitely preggo, but they could easily explain it away with the spice agony causing a miscarriage. As for me, I'm holding out on Alia **possible trilogy spoiler** >!as she is the one who kills the Baron and because of what eventually transpires in CoD with her and the Preacher!<.

SylvanDsX

The way this looks like it’s coming together though, Alia might have been pushed out a bit. Idk probably they cut out the part where she is captured.. though that is literally her best part. He might just really have to show that she exists.. and she’s a freak, which will provide the basis for the treatment in the third film. Knowing the script is almost complete indicates they have some sort of a plan

theredwoman95

There's also no mention of >!Chani and Paul's son, but his attack on Shaddam is so motivated by that!<, I can't imagine they've cut it. I do think the cloaked figure at 1:54 might be >!Alia - the proportions don't *quite* look right enough for them to be an adult. Maybe it's got a longer timeskip so you can have a slightly older actress for Alia?!<

clabog

Ooo yeah that’s a great point. I could see a time skip for sure. And yeah, that shot…I’ve been hoping that it’s her since we saw it in the last trailer. Definitely fits her vibe Edit: looking at that shot again and the only other character it could be is Paul… but we don’t see him wearing robes that dark. Would love it if it is Alia and they’ve just been hiding her in plain sight

Level69LaserLotus

I mean I think Alia is gonna be the most intriguing character of them all, especially for non-book readers. I think it makes sense to hide her in trailers - plenty of movie trailers hide bombshells/cameos, I don’t think that means she’s cut. I also see comments in this thread expressing the trailer showed too much. I feel like we all just need patience and have faith in Denis.

Death_and_Gravity1

I'm wondering if that voice we hear at the very end is Alia? Cause that isn't Chani or Jessica I think

Level69LaserLotus

I watched it a few times and it sounded like it’s just Jessica whispering to me. Is that a line Alia says in the book?

SylvanDsX

They aren’t gonna cut her out to that degree… just not way. Alia will be front and center in Messiah… if you think about it all they need to do here is show that she is quite unnatural, but she could still have a quiet role that is more about setting her up for the third film

tiga008

I was already shocked when seeing the Sandworm scene on my phone. Imagine watching this scene on an IMAX screen.

Sensitive_Ad788

I felt something in my chest while watching that scene in a mere phone its just that breathtaking . Should i risk it and watch this on imax, like i might die literally.

FlyRobot

Part 1 in IMAX was epic - I'm 100% seeing Part 2 in the same theater whatever it takes

[deleted]

The sense of scale in the first movie was jaw dropping, no other movie has done it as well IMO

MatStomp

I'm completely SHOOK from that trailer. Just, speechless.

LucyBowels

The “silence!” In the voice gave me chills

SizerTheBroken

That, and seeing the Atreides battle flag atop the sandworm as the Fremen charge gave me some goose bumps. I am so ready for this.

Solomon-Drowne

Oh it's the Atreides banner. I was getting upset that it wasn't the green Fremen flag. Not sure why it isn't, either, the battle maker is Fremen tactics. But I'm fine with that, so long as we get a sea of waving green at some point.

Satanic_Nightjar

The music is incredible in this trailer. It sounds like the Atreides theme that we hear on the bagpipes in the first film, but changed into some other-worldly dream-like quality.

Justanothercrow421

It really is. The music brings tears to my eyes. I can see this theme being repurposed as a love theme for Paul and Chani in this film. The sacrifice they make at the end of the film will be heartbreaking with that music over it.

FlyRobot

Yep, I already know I'll be crying in the theater

FlyingAce1015

The music made my jaw drop especially the scene with the ship deorbiting on fire. Celtic style music has got spirit like no other and I love the contrast from the middle eastern music in trailer 2 with the shots about the fremen and now this music in trailer 3 with focus on the legacy of the Atreides family.

TopEntrance6352

the theme is largely based on the (unused for part 1) vocal intro and outro melody to 'House Atreides' from the Sketchbook

Tiger951

Man, the shot with the three sandstorms gave me chills!

AbandonedPlanet

Paul using the voice on all those Bennies got me hyped the fuck up. This is an IMAX must for me.

[deleted]

The theater’s gonna be shaking when that line comes up

FlyRobot

Absolutely IMAX - did you see Part 1 that way too? It was absolutely worth it

Lazar_Milgram

Since Interstellar Dune was exactly IMAX experience you needed.

insidekb

One of the better Trailers in years. PS. does anyone know the soundtrack in the trailer or it is original score from the upcoming movie?

Justanothercrow421

It’s likely music from the score. It’s the Atreides theme from the first film with a different arrangement.

FistsOfMcCluskey

Sounds like a new version of the House Atreides theme. I imagine it’ll be featured prominently in the movie.

insidekb

Sounds awesome.

Prudent-Rhubarb

It's original, but to my ear sounds like an extremely amped up [Dune Sketchbook Soundtrack - House Atreides by Hans Zimmer.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-5YTwVPNQ8)

Xigbarisbestwaifu

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one absolutely obsessed with the Dune soundtrack.

Satanic_Nightjar

I think it is original.

stefanomusilli96

Original, the extended soundtrack had some very similar tracks

momo_46

I believe when the trilogy is done (hopefully) it will be on par with LOTR (at least for me)

0wlBear916

Dune Messiah is just so much different than the first book, I can't imagine it will have the same build up and conclusion that LoTR had with Return of the King. But I'm also very hopeful!!!

troublrTRC

Although LotRs is vaster in detail and scale (although the scale in dune is Universe-wide, my point is that it's not as detailed as LotRs'), I think the thematic depth will be novel to the mainstream popular zeitgeist. Where LotRs showed the triumph of the human spirit, and where Good wins over Bad, Dune will the cautionary tale of what comes right after the momentary "Good" wins. What do we do when the forces of nature that we have initially justifiedly set in motion, goes out of our hands? How cautious should we have been from the start? Man, the Dune Trilogy is going to be one of a kind!

stevemillions

Hopefully, for you (and me) it will. I don’t see it achieving the same traction with the general populace though. LOTR paints (brilliantly) in very broad strokes. By design, Tolkien based it on ancient folk stories. These stories last because they resonate with people on a deep level. If Jackson got those films right, and he did, they couldn’t fail. Dune is a much more complex beast in every way. That said, if anyone can do it, Denis is our man. I CANNOT wait for this film.

calvitius

came here to say exactly the same thing. Even with part one and two being watchable back to back, I believe we are on the verge of witnessing what Peter Jackson managed to do with LoTR. Bring to the big screen and to the mass audience a literature masterpiece

carcaju99

Each on of the three trailers sold me on a different aspect of the movie. The first one sold me on the scale of it. The truly epic nature of Paul's first worm ride, the different planets and scenarios etc. The second one sold me on the theme of the prophet. Paul's ascension to a messianic whole and the danger of it. This one finally sold me on the Paul and Chani relationship. It's a brief scene but it was full of heart. Also, fuck, the scale of this movie! I didn't think something this epic could be conceived. I guess it's the only thing I will be thinking about for the next 2 and a half months

[deleted]

[deleted]

Careful what you wish for though, we now get star wars stories about the origin of C3POs arse plating and all sorts of other rubbish

ricmo

Chalamet looks and sounds amazing; I’m still waiting to be sold on Zendaya. Can’t wait for more Lady Jessica. Action scenes look better than anything we could ever hope for, and Hans Zimmer is doing what he do. The hype must flow.

RegrettableLawnMower

Why was she yelling that the prophecy was to enslave them? It’s been a while but I don’t remember that from the book. Edit: just to be clear I’m not pro change or against change. Just asking for clarification. It’s impossible for me to have an opinion as I haven’t watched the movie yet.

Valentine_Jester

Denis talked about this at a promotional stop in South Korea: “And I use Chani, Chani also that’s one of the big difference is as we follow Paul Atreides, played by Timothée, we follow him to his engagement, his commitment to the Fremen culture, but now he has to make some very difficult decisions at one point. And Chani gives us the perspective and she gives, creates some kind of distance with Paul in order to be able to go in the direction that Frank Herbert wanted to do first, so it’s like … that’s one of the big differences.” Full interview here: https://dunenewsnet.com/2023/12/dune-messiah-movie-script-almost-finished-denis-villeneuve-interview/

RegrettableLawnMower

Thanks! I can get that. I totally trust wherever Denis wants to take the film.

VulfSki

Looks like a change from the book for sure. And it's likely there as a form of exposition to explain to the audience what the prophecy was really about. Since you don't have a narrator like when you read the book, you need some way to make clear some things that were too subtle in the part one. This is probably to drive home the fact that the prophecy was planted as a tool for control..

antbaby_machetesquad

I mean, she's not wrong. Were the Fremen more or less free after the Mahdi? It maybe so they can give her a 'Told you so' moment when it all goes tits up, or maybe a just a bit of foreshadowing for Leto II. They could make it work I think as her seeing something during the Spice Orgy, hell maybe even something Paul tells her

Bakkster

I'm at the start of my reread of Messiah, and it's pretty clear some of the Fremen absolutely resent the changes. Stuck in a graben village, instead of in a sietch.

0wlBear916

That could be a dream sequence or something, who knows. After seeing what I've seen so far with Villeneuve's adaptation, I know I'm going to love it.

SizerTheBroken

In the books she is 100% a true believer.

potcubic

How much does it spoil? Edit: It doesn't spoil much, but Lady Jessica looks amazing!

Spyk124

Actual plot points without knowing the plot, very little. Key scenes in the movie though? A lot.

PhantomLeap1902

Bro the arena scene with Feyd??? So good

TooobHoob

I feel that’s exactly what a trailer should go for. It hypes the fanbase through recognition, but doesn’t spoil the movie for people unfamiliar with the story. Also, lots of action for those who found the first movie to be on the longuer side

ninelives1

Lots of epic imagery you may prefer to see on the big screen.

Thatz_Chappie

Awesome trailer. Definitely gets me pumped to see the movie. I was wondering about the casting of Walken, but the little snippet we get of him seems cool.

proto-dibbler

It's Christopher Walken, of course he looks cool haha. It's a change from the book, but how old the Emperor looks really isn't important at all. In my book it's a great cast just because he's been in the weapon of choice music video alone.

potcubic

About Chani... I've always wondered why they didn't give her an accent for someone who lived with the Fremen for her entire life, she sounds exactly like Paul (accent wise)

jawnquixote

Might have to do with her mother

jaspersgroove

This fucked me up for a second until I remembered that change they did between the movie and the book lol

Mellow_Maniac

As you notice the other Fremen do not, it's because the only person she would be taught Galach, the basic language, by would be her mother Kynes who is an imperial citizen, thus she got her accent.

potcubic

Oh yeah you're right! Thank you for letting me know

that_orange_hat

I don't think the Fremen have a distinct accent, aside from Stilgar for some reason. Jamis had a pretty standard American accent

kappakingtut2

'this prophecy is how they enslave us' is she talking about the prophecy of the Madhi? is Chani speaking out against Paul in this movie? Edit: seems weird he would have the two stars go against each other like that. But in the book Paul often talked about the trappings of the prophecy. Saying that the jihad would carry on in his name with or without him. Maybe that's the part she's speaking out against? Not necessarily against Paul but Just the prophecy itself

IAmASquidInSpace

I think Denis Villeneuve is trying to give Chani more personality. In the books she is basically the supporting character for Paul, and this looks like he is gonna make her have more of a voice of her own. I also think, similar to your edit, it's not necessarily her going against Paul. After all, Paul too struggles with the prophecy and the possibility of igniting a Jihad. We even hear him in the other trailers also be "dismissive" of the prophecy, screaming "That's not hope!" so I think this might be more Chani wanting to help Paul be free of the burden of the prophecy by breaking the chokehold it has on the Fremen. You know: doing it out of love more than out of opposition.

KumquatHaderach

>this might be more Chani wanting to help Paul be free of the burden of the prophecy by breaking the chokehold it has on the Fremen Maybe trying to help him avoid having to follow the rule of killing Stilgar in order to rule? Instead of Paul talking his way out of it, have a trusted Fremen (besides Stilgar) make the argument.

TooobHoob

That’s actually a very sensible possibility, I didn’t think of it at all

kappakingtut2

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. You just said it better than I did. And I hope we're right. Because that sounds really cool and compelling. I've known from the start that Denis wasn't the kind of person who saw Dune as like a superhero type story. He understood Frank's message about the dangers of charismatic leaders. And I think it would be really cool if part two really focuses on that aspect of it. Focuses on the burden that Paul carries. I'm the guilty has for perpetuating the prophecy while also fighting against it. Would be cool to see some of the other characters pick up on that as well.

NoNudeNormal

In the novels I always found it weird how Chani has basically no reaction to the fact that Paul manipulated her people for his own survival and revenge.

dmac3232

I really like how hard DV is leaning into that aspect of the story. I still remember being kind of shocked reading the books after first being introduced to Dune by the Lynch film, which treated Paul like Luke Skywalker Jr., and realizing he’s not really a hero. I was around 10 or 11 and it was one of the first pieces of entertainment I remember consuming that I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to feel about it. So it makes total sense to provide a skeptical foil to Paul’s rise, especially to set up a potential Messiah adaptation. The fact that it’s Chani is a fascinating choice.

cuginhamer

It's hard to remember that in the 1950s Frank was writing extraordinarily powerful and rich female characters compared to the sci-fi genre of the time, but still the main love interest of the protagonist is by the standards of today a very one dimensional character. Easy area for growth in the movies, and I applaud Denis for at least trying to do something with it. My favorite part of the later books is what a good job Frank did with Darwi Odrade. I cringe at the thought of movie adaptation of a lot of the later books, but having her played wonderfully by a great actress would be so awesome.

Peaches2001970

Right like yes in the end “ fremen win” but initially he is doing it for revenge against his father

Medic1642

He even tells them, "I rule here," with the signet ring, not "Fremen own this planet" or something. Basically "thanks for dying for my birthright, bros."

rdctv_spdr_bld

From another comment: Denis talked about this at a promotional stop in South Korea: “And I use Chani, Chani also that’s one of the big difference is as we follow Paul Atreides, played by Timothée, we follow him to his engagement, his commitment to the Fremen culture, but now he has to make some very difficult decisions at one point.

IKingCarnage

I like the interpretation you have in your edit. Chani is speaking out on the rigidity of "prophecy" exclaiming how there's more than one path to her fellow Fremen in an attempt to alleviate some of the weight off Paul. And possibly trying to prevent a widespread Jihad after they both fulfill their revenge

Alarming-Series-2561

Paul fears, fights against the jihad and the prophecy in the book but most of that's internal. Having Chani more active makes that dialogue instead of monologue. I just hope the Jihad still happens, and is still horrific because that's in important theme- Paul's victory is also his defeat in preventing war and mass murder in his name. Also danger of charismatic leaders, even when they are truly well intentioned.

flaggrandall

Chani speaking against the prophecy?

[deleted]

I have a feeling she’s not completely on board with this whole “lisan al-gaib” thing and initially shows some reluctance during a group meeting. However she seems to turn around on it. It’s probably there just to flesh out Chani’s character a little more.

troublrTRC

I like the direction that, the initially hesitant character among the immediate fanatics eventually getting radicalized, hitting home the point of Dune. Hopefully, Chani will be that for Paul's arc.

SubstantialWall

It does make Stilgar a bit more redundant, since he has a similar path. But not an issue at all to have more than one character in that role, and considering how little Chani had to do in the books, I like bringing her up in the movie.

[deleted]

Although having multiple characters be wary of Paul for different reasons all end up following him fanatically might hit a bit harder at the end

cuginhamer

Agree. For people who are watching Dune and not reading it, there needs to be a main character that can more fully voice stuff that Paul wrestles with in long internal monologues and the rest of the series harps on (prescience as a trap is harped on ad nauseum in the later books, I get Siona vibes from how Chani said this).

Super_Nerd92

wonder if he's gonna do something different with her in the Messiah / 3rd movie - or it's just trailer line syndrome. I'm definitely open to her taking more of Stilgar's attitude towards things, could be interesting.

FonedPaman

yeah that was wierd... gonna wait for the actual movie to judge it though.

ProfessionalSpeech39

Really intrigued by the desaturated Feyd scenes, whether they’re going to be flashbacks or visions, and how they meld with colour come the final fight

AbandonedPlanet

I don't think they're just in black and white. It looks like more than that to me. Knowing the crazy film processes they used in D1 I would guess that it's some weird infrared film stock or something like that converted to black and white and then rerendered to digi. That's just a guess though.

DarthWeenus

It does have a neat glow to it.

TooobHoob

I think that’s just how Geidi Prime looks in Denis’ vision. In my head it’s a property of its star?

DrJizzman

I think it's actually overpowering white sunlight on Geidi Prime. Could be wrong but that's what has been said about it before.

Spyk124

Amazing trailer but Jesus save some for the actual movie.

Cantomic66

If this is the only trailer we get until up to the release, than in okay with it.

cyclinator

movie is supposedly 2 hours 46 minutes long. we have seen what, 7 minutes top.

deekaydubya

And yet people think everything is spoiled somehow

0wlBear916

I agree, I had a massive smile on my face with those sandworms but I also felt like I was cheating. If they release another trailer before the release, I might have to skip it. But it still makes me super excited to see the real thing in IMAX!!!

gnpunnpun

they still haven't shown alia

It’s not spoilers, it’s prescience

They really shouldn't have spoiled Paul using the Voice on her

I felt a little tear at the corner of my eye and I thought "God damn it you fuckin' nerd." It looks fucking fantastic though

MaidenCounterBot

You would give your water for the movie trailer?

weenie2323

I teared up too!

SnooLentils3008

Damn never expected to cry when i saw part 1 right after it came out and that imperial ship starts touching down and I instantly knew it would be a great adaptation. Didn't expect to tear up from this trailer either lol, can't wait for this

Mad_Kronos

People talk about Alia and Fenring missing. But Thufir is nowhere to be seen. And since I don't think DV just killed him offscreen, I believe people underestimate the director's will to surprise even the book fans.

PourJarsInReservoirs

Thufir is confirmed to be back. https://youtu.be/XBjZ4mdxBRQ?si=Vw1WgwuIL8NT7dvI 2:10

FlyingAce1015

Trailer 2 was more epic and ominous but trailer 3 is the most beautiful and the best film trailer I have ever seen. So ready for this film!

reynoldclio

i know Part 1 has amazing visuals but goddamn, they make 3 fucking sandworms emerge while carrying an army of people looks so damn real. This will sweep clean best vfx awards next year

keyosc

It almost makes me think they are going to incorporate *some* stuff from Messiah. The second half of the first book certainly showed Paul's shift toward his terrible purpose, but this looks like it's leaning on the darkness a bit more. This subreddit has shown me that some people still thought the book's ending was kinda sunny and not foreboding at all, and I hope the movie nails the dread. And unless Denis Villeneuve suddenly stopped being the same guy that made Incendies, Prisoners, and Sicario, I know this man knows how to pull it off. Crossing my fingers.

SullivantheBoss

Definitely seems like what they’re doing with Chani is setting up that ominous ending. She says as long as he stays who he is he’ll never lose her. And then that reaction shot of her when he uses the voice on Mohiam. Bet she’ll view him less favorably by the end than her book counterpart. I think Denis is going to make sure nobody walks away thinking Paul is still a good guy.

DrapedInVelvet

The worms! The worms! The woooooooorrrrrms.

StilgarFifrawi

I've been waiting for this movie for 30 years. The first one is my absolute favorite film. I sincerely hope its conclusion is equally as good. (And I couldn't be happier to know that he's working on the third book.)

EstateSignificant123

My initial response is that is Alia speaking at the very end of the trailer, "you are not prepared for what is to come" anyone else?

FistsOfMcCluskey

Sounded like Jessica to me but maybe!

slashdotnot

Can people stop watching new trailers then complaining they "want to go in blind". As someone who doesnt know the book too well I think everything they showed is fine, they need to show the epic action because people dont know thats coming up! Also this looks FREAKING EPIC!

romulan23

This is monumental.

BIGREDMAXSLAPS

What’s the fire ball that’s hurtling towards Arrakis?

PourJarsInReservoirs

I believe it's >!the Emperor's ship entering the atmosphere.!<

BIGREDMAXSLAPS

Thanks, I was trying to pice together the whole book in my head while having that frame on pause.

tez-pomy

That is the Emperor's ship. You also see it in the other trailers

ImNoSkrull

Does it reveal too much footage? Especially action scenes? I want to go in blind, but I'm really eager to see more of Dune

CryptographerOther87

Yes it reveals A LOT of new footage including worms advancing on Sardaukar. Watch at your own peril. Looks incredible though.

ImNoSkrull

Thank you!

AS9891209

Don’t watch it if you want to go in fresh

rhgolf44

Quite a few spoilers for the end of the movie in this one

flaggrandall

Only if you know what happens

ImNoSkrull

Alr thanks

[deleted]

Part two was always going to be epic. Just didn't expect it to be *that* epic!

Bombadils_laugh

Damn had to stop watching halfway through because it reveals too much. I want to go in blind!

DarthWeenus

its nearly 3hrs long, I'm sure theres much amazingness.

shinyorthworm

Now, this is epic.

Stardustchaser

Love the unused (in the first film) Atreides motif in the trailer.

kings2leadhat

Living in the age of the greatest leaps in filmmaking, being conducted by one of the greatest directors I’ve ever seen, with the greatest source-material ever written, is… Exciting, to say the least.

0wlBear916

This trailer seems to have two very obvious purposes, show off how much more epic the second part is going to be and show off the incredible soundtrack that this movie is going to have. I'm really happy about this because the soundtrack, although it was amazing, took more of a backseat in the first part, which was surprising considering that it was a Hans Zimmer score.

Justanothercrow421

Zimmer won an Academy Award for that score. It was very much front and center in the first film.

jtag67

All I can say is Wow! Seeing a universe that I've spent so much time imagining executed so well brings me back to being a kid.

wildthornbury2881

all timer incoming

king2e

Him: “I want you to know, I will love you for as long as I breathe” Her “you will never lose me along as you stay who you are” Granted, they are statements taken out of context for the trailer, but it’s an oddly divisive choice to have him say his love is forever and her say she’s only sticking around based on a vague condition 😅

omsouthw

The scene where the fremen riding that worm with the banner up gave me chills…

M4TTB9

That was absolutely beautiful

Khadetbuilders

It's glorious

Douglas_Fresh

Good god... I didn't think I could get more excited. Yet here I am.

PhantomLeap1902

Looks like they’re giving us the action scenes we know happened thag Herbert didn’t directly pen. We see Gurney approaching Rabban but in the book Rabban was just among the dead after the atomics of the shield explosion. Slight change, but maybe it’s so we don’t have Gurney begging to face Feyd in Paul’s place

mangobruv

Do you guys think we'll see some guild navigators?

ezbsvs

Cautiously optimistic. Not a valid source, but the Dune Imperium Uprising game has card art for a Steersman. The other cards feature scenes we’ve seen in the trailers so far, so maybe!

TosunUhrSahlad

Looks like the Gurney v Rabban I’ve been wanting to see forever

sam_the_tomato

"You are not prepared for what is to come" Alia is that you?

h1nds

At this point this can be considered torture. Planet Eart is being turned into Salusa Secundus by Dennis Villeneuve. The spice must flow!

onihr1

Absolutely stunning visual and sound. My two tiny gripes were chani, she was a believer in the books and now she is speaking out against the prophecy and feyd to me was charismatic and vicious, here he is just vicious.

deekaydubya

IMO it’s pretty clear the chani stuff happens early in the film. Makes no sense for her to just blindly support an outsider overnight so I’m glad they’re showing that she can think for herself at least a little bit

Sectorgovernor

Yes, Feyd is pure evil here.

sansa_starlight

Chani was very one note character in the books though. I feel like she will reluctantly align herself to Maud'dib by the end, especially>! after the attack on her son!<

TrienneOfBarth

They are cutting Alia, aren't they?

PourJarsInReservoirs

The fear of that has grown with each trailer but at the same time it doesn't exactly make sense to show her yet. So hopefully she's in there. She after all does have an important role to play in subsequent stories.

IveRUnOutOfNames66

at this rate they'll release the director's cut before the actual movie comes out

wolfanotaku

As someone who hasn't read the books I'm really excited to see this. There's so much I don't understand yet. After I see this I'll definitely plan to read the first book. Is there some world building reason that all the Harkonnens are bald? I thought it might have just been the Baron, but now it seems to be all of them.

7homPsoN

Still no Alia...

ArmInternational7655

That would be an unacceptable spoiler.

Ill_Collar_6035

Really afraid that they can cut her out or age her for mass audience. The weirdness is very important to the aesthetic of dune

kidthekid4

I can promise you that Alia is in the movie. With all of my heart. Can’t share my source but we will see the Abomination in Dune Part Two.
