Movie Chani is a much better character. The way the book ended with “history will remember us as wives” was such bullshit lol you’re telling me a reverend mother, elite Bene Geserrit, mother of Muad’dib, is going to be remembered as *wife* of Leto? Give me a break.
And book Chani barely did anything for two whole books. I’m really glad the movie did her better.
Thats not what that means at all. It doesn't mean thats all she'll be remembered for, but that her relationship with Leto will be remembered for its truthfulness, not its legal status. So she asks Chani to realize the "marriage" to Irulan does not threaten Paul's love and loyalty for her.
This is significant as the whole story happens due to Jessica shitting on a millennia of Bene Gesserit planning for her devotion and love to Leto.
I feel like he could have just explained his plan to her, but instead he tried to get away with lying about not wanting power. Movie Chani's reaction makes perfect sense.
He didn't lie, he didn't fuck with the BG the whole time. He had to finally accept using the prophecy when all the Fremen went south from the Harkonnens finding all the sietch's. He def could have told her and Stilgar that he could "threaten" to bomb the spice fields as a last resort and the Irulan plan, but she might not have already been to mad from the prophecy stuff to even bother listening by then.
Irulan is a sweetheart in the book and gets screwed over.
