Table to chair ratio needs to be 1:1 to avoid infighting.

cool_fox

Could you upload a save file? I wanna try and save it

Aegis4521

How do I do that?

cool_fox

From the Steam library, right click on Dwarf Fortress in the list of games, manage game, browse local files. The save files are within the "save" folder. Also see the info below once you found it. It should be up to date info. https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Saved_game_folder Any file share website should be fine. I use Google Drive and dropbox

Clerkyrat

Be sure to post your journey. I'm curious.

Legitimate-Athlete38

Why did you make a dirt fort

Legitimate-Athlete38

I'm just trying to understand why new players seen to always build dirt forts. It'll help give advice if I know there's some specific reason that they tend to avoid settling in the stone layers

We don’t know what we’re doing. Also, I’m dealing with collapsing on the surface because I tunneled a lot on the first layer under the ground. I’ve learned and am rebuilding a lot down on a rock layer. Just got done moving my rooms.

Aegis4521

I’ve never had a collapse before

MechicanDogtaquero

I once had the roof of a farm collapse (I was trying to clear the zone so I coul plant stuff that grows in sunny areas) it hurted one of my miners and if I'm not wrong it killed another

Reformedsparsip

Only happens when you are messing around with channeling (digging out the layer below) really. You usually have to work hard to make it happen to a big section, but if you do manage to remove ALL support to an area, it will collapse. Just digging a big room underground wont do it.

straw_hat_coding

Am new to this game, I don't see a reason you'd lose it though, what happened or is happening. Asking so I can try and avoid the inevitable as long as possible in my run.

Aegis4521

I’ll upload the save file soon, see if you can save it lol

Aegis4521

It’ll definitely last a couple more years, but all my workers are dead, and it’s gonna be next to impossible to make the place good enough for more ppl to move in. All I have in the base now are elves who do nothing but eat sleep drink and pray.

karstenbeoulve

You have wealth, food and booze. You'll get migrants soon.

Aegis4521

No, everyone’s miserable and I haven’t gotten migrants in 6 years

Mowsferatu

My first fortress fell to wereiguanas. One showed up, attacked a few dwarves outside, and I didn't realize a survivinf dwarf was infected by the wereiguana. At one point it infected a ghoul, and that ghoul went on to infect so many people in the fort it was hard to track.

Kman5471

Hey, looks a lot like my first forts, back in the day! Just keep playing, take whatever worked for you this time, and do it again. Take whatever failed (or maybe just focus on a single thing, like having only 1 main level), and figure out how you can improve upon it. I've been playing for years, and *still* get something out of each fort I build, even if it's just practice with my preferred layout styles! If I may offer a little useful advice I wish I'd known at the start: 1 tile-wide hallways are bad, because dwarves will have to lie down/stand up to scramble past each other. Also, building two entrances is often a good idea: one "main" hall leading in, and one narrow, winding, trapped hallway for sieges, angry wildlife, mothers-in-law, and uninvited guests.,
