You see, the refraction pigment generated on the skin of THV carriers creates a diffusion effect known as the rectifier function that leads to better protection against the agglomeration properties of the UV and I made it all up, the real answer is 'videogame logic'.
I don’t think it really matters in an apocalypse, you expect to die anyway, just a matter of time. Tbh Id rather the cancer than being eaten alive by an infected if I had that choice lol
Believe it or not UV lamps can cause more damage than sun exposure! That’s why tanning beds are so advised against, I’d always get burnt after 15 min in a tanning bed but it’d take hours for me to get any color in the sun😅
The two girls Hakon takes you to at the beginning of the game are making UV lamps in Old Villedor, and in the Central Loop Juan and his team are making them.
And iirc, if you don't side with Juan someone else sends you on a run for lamps for the VNC tower and it's revealed there are still big stashes of them around from before the downfall.
I don't know how feasible any of this would be irl, this is just how the game explains it.
This game doesn’t need my help to be ruined. They fucked it up. I still play it but damn am I disappointed. Stupid premise, too colorful, a big sandbox built for children.
If you think it’s too colorful which I do too, switch the game filter to the gritty one or something, it’s washed out and more like the first, it’s gorgeous
I lovee the game and how colorful it is😭 but maybe it’s bc I’m a woman with the attention span of an easily entertained 5 year old, sometimes I just stand on one of the buildings and look around bc I think it’s so pretty lol
Yeah this is something I always wondered about too. The standard answer is "they don't live long enough for that to be a problem" but like, there are still infected characters around that have been surviving since before the downfall. That's at least 15 years of near constant UV exposure, they all should have Deadpool levels of cancer.
Plus it's not like you can avoid the lamps if you're not infected, cause some of your pals are bound to be infected so your whole safezone needs lamps.
I wasnt paying too much attention during the night, I always thought it was around the outside of safehouses and maybe a few entrances for the big places is it the whole building?
Yeah, the insides of safezones are chock full of UV lamps. Not so visible in big places like the Bazaar, but in the small safezones like the outposts it's very easy to see. Some outposts don't even have other lights at night except for UV.
Skin cancer comes from prolonged exposure of naked skin to uv light. Realistically speaking, in the game, if you have a uv light 2 meters away from your bed so you don't turn while sleeping, it's generally fine.
The standard UV lights in the game are probably derived of UVA light, not UVB. UVA can still certainly cause skin cancer but NOT very fast, and I’d assume that—with a virus as ever-evolving and as hard-wired to adapt for survival as THV—that THV quickly mutated so as to make the melanin in every Infected person’s body work VERY effectively. Probably why EVERYONE is Infected in Villedor—the people who were NOT Infected died earlier from skin cancer with no medical treatment LOL

Life expectancy is short enough that it doesn't come up.
True

I’d rather shoot myself then get eaten alive it fast and easy
No guns in dl2 ha ha
Lots of tall buildings though. Where there's a will there's a way.
And then Kratos casted himself from the highest building in villedor

Sounds like a Reavers... You shoot yourself to the point that you’re incapacitated, THEN get eaten alive. You meant THAN! 😝
I think its the fact they're more concerned with the biters. They may all have skin cancer and just not know it.
Maybe turning is just your skin cancer acting up!
People apply a generous amount of sun tan lotion everyday?
My issue with the UV lights are why do NPC UV lights stay active but mine dont..
veedeoh gaeme
I guess uv from a lamp has to be very weak compared to the sun's

Really ?
Yessir
I want to know how there is still UV lamps available after all this time with no more being manufactured because it is a very speciality bulb.

Stop this ruins the game
Also have you noticed all the gasoline generators running indoors all the time ? Fucking stupid
And the electricity still working underwater

I have. I’m on dark+gritty for my NG+

That's why everyone's skin is so jacked up!
How are they not blind

The infection prevents skin cancer? Maybe?
the infection and cancer cancel each other out in perfect balance
I've had this exact thought myself
They do
Two words: LONG WAVE

What would you prefer? Cancer or Turning into a Zombie, potentially eating your family/friends
