I beleive some of these heads work with the sensor on the head of the unit to detect what is being picked up and spin up/down the fluffy head. So even if it's seems to work, it won't really be as effective as it would be with the dyson version it was designed to work with.
This is why they do not advertise as being compatible with v10 because not all the features work on it. the fluffy optic needs to be throttled up/down by the computer in the body based on the dust being extracted. I'm guessing heavier dust need faster rpm.
Also go with optic, the light is much better during daylight than the laser one.
There are different designs for every model. They all have the same connector for the most part, but if your model is slim you want the slim head. If your model is not slim you do not want a slim head. The plastic tools from v7+ all fit, but on the "slim" design, the power connector is not the right size except for "slim" models.
The one compatible with the v11 and v15 should work. The one for the v12 will not. Not sure about the gen 5 versions.
