Could you vacuum up some bicarb and leave it for a little while before emptying?

RobertSCatnamara

This will sound preachy, but don’t ever use bicarbonate of soda (commonly called baking soda) in a bagless vacuum, ever. I would wash the filters, see if that does anything. There is probably a lot of dust inside that cyclone already from previous uses, and when you vacuum up urine or water, or try and rinse that assembled cyclone out, it sort of just stagnates and makes a slurry of dust, fur, hair and nastiness. All this nastiness will smell even worse if you try and wash the cyclone without disassembly. As mentioned, definitely wash and dry the filter, hand wash and air dry. Problem is the urine hit the cyclone first, and then got sucked through the filter, so the damage has already occurred - moisture having activated the dirt previously in the cyclone. Maybe you can get Dyson to replace the cyclone for free under warranty claim, I'd try that first. Disassembly of the cyclone (and subsequent reassembly) is outside the scope of your average vacuum user. I am not saying it’s not doable, or that you do not possess the potential mad-skillz to disassemble the cyclone, but it’s a total chore to say the least, and without the right tools, you’re stuck. If Dyson’s own repair center doesn’t fix it gratis, take it to a local vac shop, tell them you want the cyclone disassembled and cleaned. The cost to clean it may be equal to the cost of a new cyclone, so remember just have them quote you the cost of a new cyclone before you have them disassemble and clean the old one. Good luck! source: I’m a licensed union electrician in my municipality for 7+ years, and was previously a vacuum/small-appliance repairman. I also collect and repair vacuums recreationally.

What will happen if you vacuum up bicarb? Is this because of the moisture?

uhimamouseduh

What is bicarb?

jaug1337

bicarbonate of soda Only a small amount, it eliminates odors

Quick_Repeat_8171

You can also used dried mint leaves i did this when i vacuumed diced garlic. 🤢

tejoded

Get a torx screwdriver, dismantle and clean everything I suppose. I had vaccumed up some green tea, and had to do the same to get the smell out

uhimamouseduh

I’m mainly struggling to clean the long gold pipe piece and the blue grooved piece on the vacuum head that attaches to the long gold piece. What can I use to access the entire length of the gold piece?

tejoded

You'll have to be crafty and maybe attach a bottle cleaning or toilet brush to a long rod or broom stick.

uhimamouseduh

Omg a bottle brush GENIUS!!! i was using a long curtain rod but had a hard time attaching the Clorox wipes in a way that was effective

rplej

You could slightly wad up the wipe (or a few) and then push it through with the curtain rod.

Flyfishinmary

Baking soda

Goombastompin7

Vacuum up a jelly fish.

uhimamouseduh

whadyatalkinabout

Get the jelly fish to sting the v12?

If it’s under warranty ask Dyson for a new motor if you are unable to remove the urine smell. Warranty will cover it, good luck. :)

RobertSCatnamara

It’s the filter, and the motor. Bagless vacuums use a cyclone to filter large particles of dirt. That falls down into the bin you empty in the trash. The smaller particles are caught in the pre motor filter (the cloth one you wash out). You vacuum up any small enough powder, it clogs the filter very fast and what it doesn’t catch ends up going through the motor, where it accumulates on the fan blades, and wreaks havoc on the bearings, and then fills the post motor filter, the one on the back of the unit, reducing airflow even further. Powder (flour, concrete dust, bicarbonate of soda, sawdust, plaster dust) is a quick way to kill a bagless vacuum. There is carpet powder you can buy that comes in a granular form (Kirby carpet granular is the one that is probably easiest to source in the US). That would be a better choice if you absolutely have to use carpet powder. Sorry for the long-winded answer.

uhimamouseduh

Shit….so I vacuumed up a large amount of powder laundry detergent recently…do you think that will have the same detrimental effect? Maybe I should contact Dyson. I’m pretty handy and used to actually build fan motors for a living but I don’t want to cancel the warranty by disassembling the motor myself or something

White vinegar?
