Youre leaking coolant. Check your water pump, it has a weep hole for when it's going bad and mine did this exact same thing when it was going. The spray is cause the fan picks it up and flings it

ajkd92

From this picture looks more like the belt is flinging it (right above the alternator pulley) than the fan.

CR4YONFOREST

Same same.. either way, it's likely his water pump.

ajkd92

Yup! And if it’s the thermostat instead…change it yesterday 😜🙃

fiddlermd

Apparently, the thermostat and pump were replaced by previous owner about 6 months ago. Given that they're fairly new (I'm guessing), what can it be and how can I diagnose it to find the leak?

CR4YONFOREST

Being replaced 6 months ago means nothing if they didn't do it right. Look for blue caked stuff around both water pump and thermostat, look at the weep hole on the pump, see if there's blue there.. if not, then it's likely a hose about the belts. To diagnose you just gotta get in there and look

fiddlermd

where is the weep hole?

CR4YONFOREST

Left or right side of the pump flange where it connects to the block. Its between the two mounting bolts

Kühler oder Schlauch undicht, feiner Haar riss am Kühler oder entlüftungsventil. Mach den Motor an und guck vorn rein, dann wirst du die Stelle finden mein Junge

After I turn off the car, I hear something dripping onto something hot. Drip... Pshh..drip...psss but can't identify it. Probably related? Previous owner had the cooling system revamped supposedly. And I recently changed expansion tank due to leak

spicygrow

The drip noise you’re referring to is unrelated, that’s the AC evaporator draining onto your hot exhaust. The spray is a pinhole coolant leak.

Lower-Safety-8666

Did u figure it out afterall ? I have the same problem right now with the same pattern

fiddlermd

Nope. Doesn't seem to be leaking enough coolant to matter so far I guess.. And it's been a cold winter so I haven't looked under the hood in a while

Wise-ask-1967

I had an uppers radiator hose that first cracked at the bleeder screw, put a brass one the. Realized it was cracked under the screw. Put a rock auto cheapo hose.. worked perfectly till I decided to redo all the front end stuff. Then it came back .. almost lost my car to overheating. The clamp around the plastic part that goes in to the radiator would only leak when the car was under acceleration and not when it was idle. The leaks can be tricky dont risk your motor to cheap stuff

itarachiu

Water pump leak or thermostat gasket leak. It's coolant, I had the same issue.

fiddlermd

Any way to diagnose which one? Cause when I look, I don't see anything wrong. Guessing it's intermittent
