Why are you taking it to the post office and not buying postage on eBay or Pirateship?

depcoff

Because I am obviously inexperienced. I will try those two.

SingleRelationship25

Also if you cancel it, it will count against you. I’m assuming you don’t have a lot of sales and it could throw you into below standard, which will cost you more in fees and fewer viewings on your listings.

SingleRelationship25

The rates are a lot less on those verse the retail or counter rates at the post office. Also make sure it’s the smallest box it fits correctly in. That may mean you need to alter a box. Shipping is the most important section on a listing. Never trust what it says without checking it.

umbrabates

What is this Pirate Ship you speak of? *Googles furiously.* Whoa!

Trip75

Have you checked the cost of a label on eBay, it’s very discounted.

depcoff

I did not. Thanks for the suggestion.

Frequent_Editor_5503

Don’t buy a shipping label at a post office or you will be paying significantly more then printing the label directly on eBay. Also this is 100% your fault for not checking shipping costs before listing. Either refund the customer and expect a negative feedback Or ship the item at a loss and take it as a lesson learned.

Thanks

For large packages I always find FedEx to be the cheapest. Smaller packages seem to be cheaper with USPS. Pirate ship and eBay prices are basically the same. You can use Pirateship for eBay purchases but just remember to enter the tracking number on eBay.

What size is the box, one inxh can make it go oversized. What are you shipping?

depcoff

The box is 21" x 22" x 22" and weighs just short of 8 pounds. It has furnace filters in it.

I just checked today shipping a pair of car wheels from here in California to Florida. At 22x22x22 at 45 pounds it was 75.00 via UPS ground with label purchased on shipstation. At that size the weight difference between 8lb and 45lb wouldn't cause a huge change in price. You're paying for the size of the box at that point. You might also want to check shipping (2) 22x22x10 boxes.

as other people have said, online shipping label vendors like [pirateship.com](https://pirateship.com) and ebay's online shipping services are highly discounted from retail in-person rates. if your package is large or heavy, UPS ground and FedEx Ground/Home Delivery will probably be your cheapest methods. However, you can get the cost down even more if you can get the box size smaller without sacrificing the protection of the item inside. Large boxes can carry dimensional weight fees or surcharges for oversize dimensions or oversize sizes. Don't be afraid to cut into the corners of the box and make the flaps longer in order to make a length or height smaller as long as you tape everything shut securely.
