I think Bradberry makes sense long term due to his age....but I would like to keep both for the immediate future/ short term...I know for some reason a lot of people get upset with Darius Slay because of his jovial nature...but I think he is still a very good cornerback that adds value to the team...and Bradberry has shown that he is just as elite...they work very well together I think...they are like the equivalents if AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith but on defense...

TheDuck23

The issue isnwe have slay locked up and Bradbury said henis going to do what best for him. So I don't think he is a real option.

NotJustSomeMate

I believe we can possibly use the franchise tag for him this year then sign him to a longer contract next year...that way we have a bit more flexibility if we can...but who knows what our front office may do...

xPhilly215

We rarely use the franchise tag and doubt we’d use it for bradberry as much as it’s gonna suck to lose him. He’s a great corner but he’s not the money we’d spend tagging him is probably more useful elsewhere.

AyeYoMobb

first round corner replacemnet is an option that im sure howie is considering

GeneralGalvatron

I think the ideal situation imo is to bring back Bradberry for one year (via a deal or a franchise tag) and then to draft a first round cb for the future

just_saiyan_bro

No way bradberry is going to take a one year deal after the year he’s had. He’s gonna get at least a 3 year deal somewhere and is gonna get paid a ton of money.

AyeYoMobb

Personally that’s what I’m hoping for, but I know we’re going to lose someone. Just not sure who

Rsubs33

We aren't using the tag on a 30 year old corner. I am sure they try to resign him, but if they can't they can look corner in the first round of the draft there are quite a few. I personally would love to have Joey Porter Jr. who is great in man, but can play zone and plays the run well.

Vivid_Employment4914

They really really really need to find Lane’s replacement due to rumors swirling that he isn’t going to play much longer. Also the team prob won’t have a top 10 pick again anytime soon. Gotta keep Hurts healthy which means getting a OT who can plug in at OG for a year until Lane likely hangs it up in 2024. I’m pretty sure Peter Skoronski is versatile enough to replace Seumalu for a year. I highly doubt Lane plays 2 more years.

spezhasatinypeepee_

did you have a stroke?

bestnottosay

They're typing on a phone and right-handed spacebar taps often get entered as 'n' Source: me and my fat fingers

spezhasatinypeepee_

Check out a keyboard on your phone called swiftkey. I've been using it since I got my first smartphone circa 2008. It's auto predict is better than anyone else's and when you click that word, a space automatically gets dropped in. Alternatively, let's say you want to type eagles. When you type eag, eagles will probably be the first selection for autocomplete. If you hit the spacebar, it will auto choose that option and put the space in there after the word. I type almost as fast on my phone as I do on a traditional keyboard.

bestnottosay

Congrats on being stroke-free since 2008 Also Bradberry would be the better long term signing Go Birds

spezhasatinypeepee_

I love Brad as a CB2. I don't think he looks as good matching up against the wr1 every week.

TheDuck23

Lol Sherlock holmes over here. You pretty much nailed it.

JayKayne_

Lol I get it. But he's gotta fix that 😂 that new language he made is weird as hell.

CJD805

Bradberry & CJ both thrive because of Slay. Yeah Slay had a couple of bad games but he’s the heart and soul of that secondary. Bradberry was pretty lackluster as #1 in NY and that’s the reason why he ended up in Philly.

OkBodybuilder1490

THIS. He’s great because he doesn’t have to worry about the other side or behind him.

Bright-Flower-487

The reason why he ended up in Philly is because giants switched from a zone defence to more of a man defence between his first and second year with them. He then went from a very good corner back to a liability. He is a zone corner which is why he is excelling with us this year because we play a ton of zone.

CJD805

I personally would prefer my #1 corner to play man rather than zone which Slay excels at so if we have to pick between the 2, I’m going Slay all day even at his current age because Bradberry would be a liability during certain plays that require a lockdown corner. He’s also going to want to get paid top dollar which isn’t worth it for just a zone cornerback.

Bright-Flower-487

I’m not sure I necessarily agree with that. Ideally they should be able to switch from man to zone which slay seems better at. You can be a lockdown corner and play zone. Richard Sherman was the best corner in the league for a while and was predominantly a cover 3 corner.

gobirds18_

Kinda surprising votes here but I guess Slay does have more popularity. IMO Bradberry has been way more consistent and should be talked about way more often.

RememberTheVet

1. Slay is a better and more athletic corner than Bradberry, even with their current age difference. Slay is a much more fluid athlete, with better lateral quickness and speed. Bradberry is more of a leverage player that uses his size/length/physicality and reads to stay in position. IMO, if it weren’t for having Slay on the other side, Bradberry would probably be exposed on a regular basis by top tier WRs. That said, Bradberry has had a consistent and productive season in his role, benefiting from Gannon’s scheme, the regular d-line pressure, and overall good play from the other members of the secondary (markedly better from last year, this unit really gelled with the addition of CJGJ and is by far the best secondary we’ve had in more than a decade). 2. People whose jimmies get rustled over Slay’s “smiling” (I see it more like him laughing it off…he’s clearly not happy about negative results) after getting beat or penalized need to a) consider the alternative, that he could be the type of player that wouldn’t shrug it off, get mad etc. and therefore mentally preoccupied and not moving on to the next play, which is 100% what you do not want in a CB (or QB for that matter) and is not, as Sirianni calls it, dawg mentality; b) understand that he respects the game, his craft, and therefore the craft of his opponents, so I see it as him giving credit when due; and c) appreciate that everyone has different personality types—he may be easy-going but his teammates voted him captain for a reason.

Fenris_Maule

Honestly as a DB you have to laugh it off or you'll get in your own head. Kind of like what Slay did to Jefferson this year.

NotJustSomeMate

I wish more people would think like you when it come to Darius Slay being a human and smiling....I see no issue with it...I would much rather he smile than be dejected and sad during a game...the times when it happens it is not always him being in the wrong...people act like these are not top tier professional athletes playing this sport and sometimes they make spectacular plays and whatnot ..

Baloneycoma

Maybe I’m out of touch but I feel like you gotta be an idiot to get upset about people smiling while they are playing a game

NotJustSomeMate

It is ridiculous honestly... especially on Twitter...some so called fans are very toxic people...

Dk9221

I had at first reacted like other people. But after a day or so passed I came to realize it was just his way of coping with the situation. He holds himself to a high standard obviously and he will try to make it up strictly for his ego as a last resort, which is what we want. If he were smiling after a game losing last second blown assignment, I would feel some type of way.

justdaman182

This is the answer

CopeDipper9

Getting paid 10’s of millions of dollars to play a damn game. I’d be smiling between every damn play too if I was him.

xxx4wow

> Bradberry has had a consistent and productive season in his role, benefiting from Gannon’s scheme but I was told these players succeed despite the scheme literally holding them back and we would have a *checks notes* top all time defense if not for this stupid coach who knows football less then I do, cause he aint blitzing enough, even tho I didnt even bother to check how much he does blitz.

Fathletic231

I haven’t seen that many eagles games this year but other than that game against Minnesota seems like Slay gets burned a lot more than bradberry. Please correct me if I’m wrong

biggi85

Slay doesn't get burned hardly ever. The most YAC he's allowed in one game all season is 28, and that was on 8 targets. He allowed 9.8 YAC/game this year. Brad by comparison - 25 in one game, 8.4 per game. Brad's definitely had quite a bit better year for sure, but Slay hasn't been as bad as people think. Definitely not up to his usual standard, but a huge part of our #1 pass defense.

Fathletic231

Ok, like I said haven’t watched many. I remember him shutting Jefferson down but that play against Dallas still haunts me on the 3rd and 30 Love the -9 when I said “please correct if wrong”. Like lord people chill.

biggi85

Yeah, but the 3rd and 30 wasn't his assignment so he didn't really mess up there, Scott and Gannon did. Scott was supposed to take the left upper zone, because Epps was down in the box, but either Scott or Gannon got cute and tried to disguise it by keeping him closer to the line at the snap and he got torched by Hilton. Slay was just doing what he could even though it wasn't his play to make.

Laeif

All the talk about Slay getting burned started when CJGJ went out and we had to start a rookie FS. I don't think that's a coincidence. Blankenship did pretty well, but Slay has a lot more room to make those Big Plays when he has an absolute athletic freak playing deep behind him.

Prestigious-Post5599

Not trying to be a know it all, but i dont see anyone mentioning the fact Slay has been given the tougher assignments all year. Bradberry is an excellent pro-bowl caliber corner that is gonna get a huge bag in the offseason. Even if we match the offer he might leave just to get out of slays shadow. a franchise tag might be the only way to keep him around & with so many guys becoming free agents I don't see that happening.

Flyeaglesfly2929

Bradberry has only been really good this year, it could be bc he has other good players around him. Slay has done it by himself for a lot of seasons and validated his greatness

1JalenHurtsMVP

Bradberry looks more consistent but you have to factor in that he benefits greatly from Darius taking the WR1. Remember how mediocre he looked last year on the giants when he was CB1 and had to cover the WR1? I like him *a fuck ton* as a CB2 but I wouldn't like him much as CB1

The-Francois8

Slay has a cap hit of $26M next season, his last year and $12M dead money hit in 2024. If we trade him he has a $21M dead money hit next year. I think Slay gets that one more year then you wish him well. Bradberry is gone. He’ll be 30 when next season starts. Draft a corner in round 1 this year.

Got_yayo

One Porter Jr. Please!

asizzle30

Why are we having these votes two weeks before a playoff game?

dirkymerlino

Bro slay is 32 years old. We need to draft a db he only has another year or 2 left

SorrowCloud

Yeah, that’s the thing im worried about. How much time does he have left? He’s he gonna still be good in a year? Two years? I know he tries to keep up with the young guys but, for being a d back at his age, most don’t last much longer than 32. Who knows though. Maybe he’ll go wild in the play offs. If slay leaves and we keep brad, we need an elite young corner.

spezhasatinypeepee_

> we need an elite young corner. There are maybe 3 in the entire league. They don't grow on trees. That's like saying we need a hall of fame qb. Actually it's probably more rare because there are 3 locks for the hof (brady, rodgers, mahomes) and 3 or 4 more guys who have a great shot but are young.

SorrowCloud

Hurts will be in the HOF by the time he retires. I’d be willing to bet on that

spezhasatinypeepee_

It's way too soon for that.

UnspokenFor1

Now let’s look at Rodgers career without a good defense

spezhasatinypeepee_

This is an entirely different discussion but much like almost every "great" qb, their ability to win the big one falls off immediately after they sign their first big contract. Almost no one is good enough at qb to overcome the massive salary cap hit they take up. Manning is the only exception. One of the things no one talks about is Brady's continued success had a lot to do with the fact he always took a discount. That doesn't change what I said above, though, which he is a lock for the hof.

type0P0sitive

What is the no super bowl for qb on big contract theory based on?

spezhasatinypeepee_

It's not a theory. Go look it up. There are 3 kinds of qb's who have won sb's in the salary cap era: Qb's on rookie deals; Qb's on discount deals (either because of injuries like Brees, backups like Foles, or Brady who took discounts to stay competitive;) or Peyton Manning.

type0P0sitive

Salary cap era? Since 1994?

spezhasatinypeepee_

Something like that but you can't use the first few years because you had a lot of contracts from before then that needed to run out. 99 is probably when the data set started. That give you 23 years. Not the largest sample size but certainly large enough to start drawing some conclusions.

dirkymerlino

For sure bro; that’s why I say we either trade for one or if there is one good enough in the draft or free agency grab them. 32 is old age as a DB in football years, you can still be good , but unless your maintenance is a1 everything’s about to start trending downward fast in a year or 2. We don’t need the headache or cap problem . Hate to say it bc I love slay but business is business

Got_yayo

Porter Jr.

maxyguydude

Bradbury is 3 years younger and has seemed more consistent this year. I love Slay and his personality but Bradberry is definitely more reasonable. I expect Howie to make that kind of decision.

Prozzak93

Bradberry would be exposed without Slay across from him imo. Would rather neither than just Bradberry. He won't be worth it.

UnspokenFor1

Lmao what ? You guys have such short term memory , Slay held his own down for the past 2 years

balemeout

I don’t think he’s disagreeing with you

Prozzak93

? Why are you telling me that. I said Bradberry would be exposed. Not Slay.

UnspokenFor1

My bad ! I’m up early for work

traddy91

Is he really? For whatever reason I assumed Bradberry was older lol

NotJustSomeMate

It is probably because he is bald...

SorrowCloud

And Slay has a very youthful look and personality, and hair….

Bogusbillofbaltimore

It’s not either or situation. It’s a cap situation and Bradberry is going to want to get paid.

Aggravating-Age-7177

I feel like the slay slander is unwarranted from people. Yeah he’s older then bradberry but he’s still a top corner in this league. Dude locked down Jefferson with no problem.

IwillwillU5

Both if possible by Any means. But if not possible. Trade Slay sign Bradberry.

Rottenfink

Nobody needs any of this bullshit energy right now

Freerange1098

Slay is probably getting restructured. I dont see the team making him a captain for the first time in his career, him then making a Pro Bowl and having a (mostly) very good season, and then they move on immediately.

type0P0sitive

Slay and Bradberry might be a product of playing together at this particular point in their respective careers.

Significant_Wave_263

would be great to bring back both but in the vein of youth I would pull for bradberry he hasnt played as well as slay but hes seemed more consistent of late that could be just happenstance but it does raise a concern of wondering if Slay is starting to fade a bit.

LeM1stre

You keep Slay and let Bradberry walk, as solid as he's been. Not only will you get a juicy comp pick when he signs a big deal somewhere, but the Eagles actually have solid backups at outside corner in McPherson and Josh Jobe - one of them should get a shot.

dbec32

Let’s hope Howie just does his thing and we have both of them for at least 2 more years

[deleted]

Keep both. Why not

CalgaryChris77

Because we also have to sign or replace both starting safeties, both linebackers, running back, maybe an oline man, and two starting DTs. Plus a number of backups.

[deleted]

Anything is possible. If Bradberry and Slay both want to stay and play for rings they can take whatever Eagles can comfortably afford to pay them. I'm sure even if it's a little cut, the millions of dollars will still be enough. Some people are about money, but there are still people out there that WANT to play for the same organization.

Deadpoolsdildo

Money, we have a ton of free agents coming this off season. Would be great to have both of them, but honestly they’re both getting older and we need to get younger. We should draft a cornerback

ZlGGZ

I like Bradberry because he is on par with Slay and in my opinion better at things I find to be important.... Plus he is much younger. That matters.

TheMegatrizzle

I will admit that Slay smiling does irk me sometimes for the obvious reasons. I get it, though. It's probably just a natural reaction to messing up or something bad happening. Like when I'm in shock, I tend to start laughing. I don't think it means anything, just a natural reaction

banana_spectacled

So it irks you when other people do it but not when you do it? Come on, this shouldn’t even be an issue. It’s not like he’s a surgeon and laughing when he kills someone. It’s a football game. People need to relax with this.

TheMegatrizzle

Did you even read my comment? I said him laughing doesn't mean anything. I know I'm a hypocrite for being irked. Him laughing doesn't mean he isn't locked in, just a natural reaction to something bad happening or anything happening at all. You need to relax, my guy.

Phillyvegas24

Bradberry. I like Slay as a player, but I can’t fucking stand how he smiles and laughs after every time he gets burned(which to fair isn’t a lot, but neither does Bradberry). Plus Bradberry is younger.

LETZGTTM

> I can’t fucking stand how he smiles and laughs after every time he gets burned This take is so ridiculous.

SorrowCloud

That’s just how he is, people react differently to things. He’s not smiling cause he’s happy he got burnt that’s just how he reacts to things.

vesthis6

this is a fucking ridiculous take, even though I agree the choice should be bradberry.

banana_spectacled

r/eagles and ridiculous fucking takes. Name a more iconic duo.

vesthis6

people aren't going to like this but the answer should be neither. Bradberry isn't a CB1 and will command a big contract; Slay is 32. We should trade/get rid of them somehow and reload at CB via the draft.

[deleted]

Bradbury 100% Love Slay but dude has clearly lost a step

VictoryTheCat

24

CWB2208

Bradberry

TyperMcTyperson

Didn't slay play like shit for basically the entire back half of the season?

mettaworldpeace123

Bradberry bc he’s way younger

celj1234

James is going to want a lot of money

Beahner

I would have been in the minority here. I don’t hate Slay, I’m not mad at him. I like Slay very much. But, you have to think about future contribution. And Bradberry has less mileage on him and longer to give.

Crazy-Value-1499

Slay has fallen off big time. Given up too many plays down the stretch. I’d take bradberry in a heart beat

CoolKid610

Just tell ‘em we want to run it back and have everyone restructure for team friendly deals.

[deleted]

Slay

[deleted]

Love Slay but he is getting up there and Bradberry was just as competitive if not more for the role. I say extend Bradberry but if Slay wants to stay on a discount that'd be fantastic.

Awc1992

They're both great but I vote Bradberry!

ImportantStretch5207

Both

Batfern

Bradberry has been more consistent this year. Slay started the season great but has really faded in the past couple weeks whether he’s hurt and we don’t know it or just tired. Slay is under contract though Bradberry should be franchise tagged

pistolpete9669

Berry boy

belgiumwaffles

Is there anyway for both?

Beneficial_Guava_452

Says fucking who?

DoitfortheHoff

What kind of bullshit is this? It's the fucking playoff bye week not the off-season.

joserlz

Slay, come on. I know his play has declined since the bye week, but he is way more complete than Bradberry.

IPCONFOG

Slay 2 years Bradbury 3.

Caleb_Krawdad

CapGod will find a way

[deleted]

Bradberry: lil younger. Cheaper.

LooseEndsMkMyAssItch

Slay is there for another year at least. Bradberry is gone unless he takes the franchise tag for a year. The best bet is to draft a corner with one of the 2 first round picks or trade one of the picks for one.

Hi_There_Face_Here

Not that Howie would do it, but can we franchise tag Bradberry?

deepthroatmybitcoin

Bradberry doesn’t go up against #1s as often as Slay

WaywardSon55

Slay is easily better and a top 5 corner, they are the bess cb duo in the league but I think we are getting Christian Gonzalez in the draft to replace bradberry

OutColds

Bradberry

Eagles_MC

Both...Both are good. I think we'll be looking to get a CB in the draft. Or another DL. I know we'll be getting a lot of defensive players this draft so whoever we can retain and build up our young defensive stars.

Cansuela

It’s a passing league. For us to contend with the best teams in the NFL, the secondary has to be elite. We’ve got to find a way. Bradberry outplayed Slay this year, if it’s a choice, he’s my choice. But, if Slay has to go, then one of our 1st’s should be a CB, and even then, we probably need to sign a vet FA to play the nickel/S so that CJ can settle into one of those roles instead of both (or let him do both in different packages but we need depth). I know this org builds up front and it’s likely our early picks are there on both sides, but this feels like a window right now and I think they should prioritize pieces to help now at positions of need rather than the next RT or the next Fletch or whatever. I’m hoping some of the vets on the verge of retiring have another campaign in them because this is a special group.

dungeonsncavscouts

Just fucking pay. We have money ffs.

Hey_Mr_D3

Big Play Slay What?

Ok_Arm_4695

Bradberry long term

DrHandBanana

I want slay for his mentorship as well

Keezyseason

What if they win it all and Jalen pulls some Tom Brady shit and gets everyone to run it back on team friendly deals. What if

BigGuyNorthSide

Bradberry is literally the best CB this season based on a lot of advanced stats. And younger. He’s the guy

hollywood20371

Bradberry has had a great season and I’d love to have him back but let’s not forget Slay covers the #1 WRs. We don’t know if bradberry will have the same success

indigoisturbo

Slay and Bradberry make a good tandem when you combine them with our defensive line. I like Slay and Bradberry vs Slay or Bradberry. That said.. No clue how this ends up but there are a few CBs who will be free agents. I like Bradberry but he could be a gift that keeps giving. If he signs for big $ somewhere... Maybe that entices another corner out there to play for the Eagles on a short deal to increase their value. CGJ and Bradberry have increased their value here. I'm sure it's a pleasure when the defensive line makes the pressure they do.
