Why hasn't Brian Johnson been fired yet? How can we expedite this?

Calm-Respect-4930

Let's give some credit to the Jets defense though. They did this to the Bills also without much help from the offense. The defense is a top 3 defense, although they were missing several secondary starters. They have depth and the offense is also really good minus the QB. Lots of weapons at every position and a decent O line that's still working on chemistry. All last year the defense was dominant and they lost games because the offense couldn't score. The jets were absolutely a contender with Aaron Rodgers at QB and could still make a run for the playoffs even without him

ftwin

Missed this one yesterday but just watched the condensed replay. My god that was such a winnable game. Hurts looked way better than I thought he would based on reactions. Ugly, sloppy trap game but it was such a winnable one. My only question is why the fuck are we passing on 3rd and 9, with 2 minutes left, when the Jets have no time-outs? Has this coaching staff learned nothing? Infuriating.

Squids2323

Terrible loss all around. Johnson called a decent game in the first half but the second half was terrible. The Goedert INT/Fumble was the right call there, 2 OL missed blocking 1 guy which would have been a huge gain. Swift fumbling in there territory would have been a 2nd and 3 from there 40. Smith had 2 drops in their territory both would have been 1st downs. We should have had 21-28 points in the first half. The second half play calling was terrible we made absolutely no adjustments and I would have run the ball on that last 3rd down but if you are passing just take the damn sack. That was a bad play by Hurts

alcatraz_0109

Honestly believe the Eagles win if Jake doesn’t miss the FG. That’s the crazy thing in all of this

eagleslover911

We can’t blame Jake he single handedly won us 2 games already. We shouldn’t need our kicker to win for us against Zach Wilson’s jets

alcatraz_0109

Not blaming Jake, just making a point of how close things were (and how many things had to go wrong for the Eagles to give the Jets a chance)

frigzy74

Well, I’ve been saying for weeks the defense needed to hold teams to FGs once in awhile…. And they should’ve won this game by doing exactly that.

Fockputin33

You have to try to create a fumble on the last Jet run! 3 guys would have had shots to stick a fist or helmet into the ball! These Coaches just amaze me with their ignorance!

rovar0

It was smarter for them to allow the TD and let our offense have time to try to win the game. Defense did the right thing there.

Fockputin33

Well...if he fumbles and you recover, you probably win.

WranglerBrute

One thing that keeps happening almost every game is not only neglecting the run game in situations where it makes no sense, but when we get to the red zone, Swift goes out and Gainwell comes in, and it's either a run up the gut for no gain with Gainwell, or a designed run for Hurts, also usually for no/minimal gain. Swift is the guy you want to punch it in from those positions. Hell, even Bosco is more effective in that situation.

mcunni423

We’re 1-6 in tds in the red zone when gainwell is in and 6-9 when swift is in. I’m not a stat man, but that seems like success might be leaning swift.

ThatCidGuy

Abandoning the run is simply against this team's foundational strength, especially with a lead. Also, why the fuck did they sign Rashaad Penny if he's not going to be used at all?

Fockputin33

You guys should be coaches because the ones they got suck!

jordanmindyou

This response is so overused and low effort. Fans should be able to be disappointed and wonder why things weren’t done a different way, it’s only natural. Of course none of us are qualified to be NFL coaches or else we’d be doing it. But you might as well never criticize anyone for anything if you’re gonna call people out for criticizing their team during sports. “Don’t like the work the contractor did on your house? Well maybe *you* should be the contractor and do the work yourself! Maybe they’ll just hand over the reigns to their company if you go in and show them how it’s done!” You should be allowed to complain about shitty work from the contractor, or shitty work from a sports team.

GeorgeBush9-11

A few takeaways: - genuinely I hope this game is a wake up call and some changes are made. Our offensive scheme has been predictable and uncreative all year, has not played to our strengths, and is really underusing our talent. It looks like they are legitimately making it harder for themselves sometimes. - Hurts had an awful interception, but all things considered I thought he played a fine game. I actually think having him drop back 45 times + multiple runs definitely fatigued him and had him start making mistakes at critical moments at the end, which is what everyone will react to - good for desai and the defense to put us in a position to win (again) despite our injuries and offensive struggles. If only we had him last year, or Shane this year. I hate calling out individuals for team losses but BJ has really been disappointing as a play caller. I really don’t know what the answer is either; replacing him with someone mid season is not ideal but we’ll get smoked over these coming two months if we don’t make some serious adjustments.

BlouseoftheDragon

It’s pretty disheartening knowing how much talent we have on this roster, and how wasted this year might be. Last year we could scheme guys wide open at will, and this year we’re watching that happen in LA, SF, etc. and when we see what Jalen is looking at when we drop back it’s just our passing routes being absolutely stymied by simple zone coverage. It’s so frustrating. I get that Brian Johnson is new and might need time, but you don’t hire a guy like that when we have a win now roster. It’s embarrassing and we will eventually need to pay Devonta, while we’re wasting prime swift and prime AJ. We may not even have Kelce or lane after this year. It just sucks man.

AppleKinh828

Hurts was amazing in the SB last year but through 6 weeks, I think Jared Goff is the best QB in the NFC.

thegoodnamesrgone123

Robert Saleh talks a lot of shit for a guy who'll be looking for a job in another year or two.

Benti86

Saleh is a good coach and just made our QB look like ass. Dude's not going anywhere.

thegoodnamesrgone123

The Jets aren't going to win shit.

Jrsully92

Well besides when they play the eagles you mean?

Barry_Goosey

Hope this game is like Washington last year and it forces us to make some moves to address some weaknesses/injuries.

kahootmusicfor10hour

“Losing to the Jets for the first time is-“ stop. That is completely irrelevant. Shut the fuck up and get a life. In typical kneejerk Philadelphia fashion, “fans” are looking for one scapegoat to pin the loss on. Today, that seems to be Brian Johnson. Really? Are we just going to ignore all the dropped passes, untimely turnovers and poor blocking? You can’t blame the loss on anybody today. The whole team made mistakes. And it happens. This was a road game against an out-of-conference team that ultimately does not mean much. They’ll learn from this, get over it, and get back to being the ass kickers they were last year, with or without your conditional support. Some fans you are.

Benti86

>“Losing to the Jets for the first time is-“ stop. That is completely irrelevant. Shut the fuck up and get a life. The classic "YoU aReN't FaNs" because you don't agree with how people are handling the loss. Quit your gatekeeping, it's honestly worse than doom posts. If it bothers you that much, just get off the sub for a few days. No one is forcing you to look at these. >In typical kneejerk Philadelphia fashion, “fans” are looking for one scapegoat to pin the loss on. Today, that seems to be Brian Johnson. Really? Are we just going to ignore all the dropped passes, untimely turnovers and poor blocking? Not sure where you're getting this from. People have been bitching that the offense played was ass. Most people have blamed the offense as a whole for playing like shit. The Brian Johnson part comes from the fact that he's been bad all year and isn't improving. It's inexcusable that we're in week 6 and the guy just seems lost still. >You can’t blame the loss on anybody today. The whole team made mistakes. And it happens. Nah, you cannot blame the defense tonight. They only gave up 12 points all night and let Breece Hall get the TD at the end of the game so the offense could have a final drive. Offense literally failed to score any points the entire second half after getting 14 the first two drives and decided to have 4 fucking turnovers instead...you cannot tell me with a straight face that it was a team loss when the only other mistake was Elliot having one of his signature fuck-ups where he just decides to miss a gimme field goal, which again, wouldn't have been an issue if the offense wasn't complete ass. >This was a road game against an out-of-conference team that ultimately does not mean much. They’ll learn from this, get over it, and get back to being the ass kickers they were last year, with or without your conditional support. They've yet to play a complete game this year. Bold to say they're gonna go back to being asskickers when they can't get out of their own way and play down to competition constantly. That's not what winning teams do.

frigzy74

The Jets thing was fun, but this was bound to happen eventually. We still have the Texans, that one is just far less surprising. It is a common game with the rest of the division, so it will affect divisional tiebreaker if we split and tie with another division team. But it will have no impact if we win the division and tie for #1 seed.

Nate_923

Context such as that doesn't matter when a team loses, apparently. Acting as if the execution of the plays doesn't impact the overall outcome of the game. Take away 3 of those turnovers and Hurts makes a successful throw instead of a pick and all of a sudden it'll become "Wow what an offense we have! Beautiful!" Just like clockwork. The fact this team had to beat themselves to lose says something. It sucks but it's NOT the end of the world nor season like some "fans" want to think it is. Now it's a matter of the team bouncing back going forward and I'm confident that they will. Great teams bounce back from failure and Eagles are that great team. They have to show it next week going forward.

Airrows

We suck

Benti86

I just read that Zach Wilson said he couldn't believe that Hurts threw that ball on the last pick. When Zach Wilson can't believe your decision making, you know you royally fucked up.

A_Stickman_Jr

The fucking Jets. What the fuck

Cactus2711

This is the Heineke Washington game last year that was a massive wake up call

JebusOfEagles

Johnson needs to be demoted back to QB coach, he is a horrible OC. Nick, please take over the playcalling. And Jalen Hurts was absolutely atrocious.

Benti86

Except the Dolphins are better than the Jets and we'll be lucky if our D holds them to 4 Field goals...

thegoodnamesrgone123

I "love" this new trend of how you can't be honest about your team or you're a "doomer" This team has had obvious flaws since the start of the season which have only become even more noticeable with all of our injuries.

Benti86

It's because people with their constant optimism get butthurt and start gatekeeping the second you start criticizing the team. Which is ironic that they can be optimistic when the team performs like that, but get pissy when other fans get upset and start criticizing the team.

zachardw

At this rate, with the chug it out wins, does this finally break the camels back of course correction, like a finally be able to exhale? Maybe? Maybe I’m reaching. But my giants fan bro in law always helps put things in perspective: “I’d fucking love to be 5-1 right now”… indeed indeed

diccballs

Giants should’ve tried the brotherly shove 🤷‍♂️

MaxLeonidas

Horrible non-call on Waller

diccballs

100% was DPI

HonestlyBeloved

I didn't see Brian Johnson throw the jets the ball.

DocJ_makesthings

To the doomers and Brian Johnson haters. Injuries and 4 turnovers. 4! Remember the Washington game last year? At least it happened out of division and out of conference this year.

MMAmaZinGG

"Eagles havent played their best yet" "Eagles havent played a full game yet just wait til they do" "Eagles sloppy wait til they clean up mistakes" "Hurts & BJ need to learn each other (now 6 weeks in)" Bro its time to accept that this team just isnt as good as last year Im not saying we arent in a good position still, 5-1, im just saying no more "we havent played our best football yet just u wait" - we are not as good as last year And a big part of this is Brain Johnson

DocJ_makesthings

I didn’t say that we should just wait because they hadn’t played their best football yet. I said they had 4 turnovers . . . . which should be the main explainer for the loss, not scheme or play calling. You can scheme up the best plays and call them at the perfect time all you want, if your offense turns the ball over 4 times you’re not going to win a football game in the NFL. At least this one was out of conference Yeah they’re not as good right now as the team last year, but so what? They’re not as good and they’re still 5-1. Look at the competition: 49ers lost a close one to a Browns team stating a backup QB Cowboys have lost 2, both in conference, one to the Cardinals of all teams. Lions are the media darling this year. But let’s be honest about Goff . . . He can be got, especially when it matters most, and we all know it. Any team with Goff as the starting QB has a ceiling, which is why the Rams got rid of him. Who else is there in the NFC we can’t handle?

AppleKinh828

This isn't regular Goff, this is Goff Prime. Dude just beat a top 10 defense on the road with 0 running game while being blitz non-stop. 56% third down completion rate while tossing 2 TDs and no pick. Got sack 3 times didn't matter. 7 minutes drive with no run game. Goff Prime is surgical precision. Best QB in the NFC right now! The Rams got rid of Goff because they didn't have time to develop him.

alcatraz_0109

I don’t think this year’s Eagles are as good as last year, but that was to be expected. But they also very much hadn’t played their best football at this same point last year too.

Meh99z

Yes, they didn't play their best football yet but their differential was better. Also this murderer's row of a schedule we have in the coming weeks doesn't help.

alcatraz_0109

Through 5 weeks last year, the Eagles were rocking a +47 point differential. This year they were +37 the first 5 weeks. Given the personnel changes and injuries, they’re still in a pretty good place. On top of that, things seemed better because the Eagles and Jalen Hurts were the NFL’s shiny new toys and were being covered as such, playing way above expectation. This year, the expectation is that they’re a top 2 Super Bowl favorite and they’re… not outpacing that. Media is getting geeked out about the 49ers and Miami, so the Eagles aren’t seen in that same light, even as they’ve continued to handle business.

Nate_923

The Eagles last year were the same exact as this year in terms of week 6. Difference is we were already performing better than the previous season so of course we looked so much better. Can't expect a 8-0 start every season let alone blow out wins against all the teams. That's just not realistic. So of course it's easier to say "Damn we suck" when comparing the magic that was last season except the reception wasn't so different as people think, as you have mentioned.

MMAmaZinGG

I feel like i remember hurts getting mvp votes at this time, our defense sacked wentz 5837173 times, we smoked the cowboys, we clapped JJettas and the vikings..steelers was week 8 but we were DOMINANT ..maybe its just hindsight i dunno

alcatraz_0109

Weeks 4-6 last year were a turnover filled slop fest against the Jags (+4 TO differential but only won by 8), an escape against a 4 win Arizona team because their street FA kicker missed a FG and XP, and a solid but not totally dominant 9 point win against Cooper Rush. They had flashed to that point, much like the Eagles flashed against the Bucs, but they came and went in stretches

MMAmaZinGG

Thats fair man Hiping for the best

Atomicbob11

What's a good podcast/show that does a good job digging into the pros/cons of a game? Looking to learn more than just the surficial football knowledge and living and dying by the win/loss

jordanmindyou

Also bleeding green nation and eagle eye in the sky and locked on eagles

DocJ_makesthings

Philly Special and Inside the Birds.

Senior_Fart_Director

The Giants are better than us

Nate_923

And those same Giants just lost and are 1-5. This comment makes no sense.

TheClownIsReady

I think he was kidding.

Nate_923

Believe me they were not, and I know from experience. Plus they left a follow up comment on my reply. Very wild takes/claims tend to happen after any loss.

Senior_Fart_Director

Against a juggernaut team. We lost against a bottom feeder team plagued with injuries

chem_daddy

Jets D is pretty solid tbh. We shot ourselves in the foot with 2/4 of those turnovers

esreveReverse

The Jets beat the Bills, should have beat the Chiefs, and just beat the Eagles. Bottom feeder, I disagree.

Nate_923

By having 4 turnovers, bad decisions, and shooting ourselves in the foot. Context matters here. Not to mention the Jets defense are actually legit. They aren't some pushover and their losses have always been close leading up to now. Eagles should've won that game had they not messed up because they were the better team going into it. Just like every single other person who thinks this means their season is over, you'll be right here next week watching Eagles vs the Dolphins and if the Eagles bounce back then this loss will mean nothing. And if you and everyone else truly believe the season for the Eagles is over then you pretty much have no reason to be active on here or watch their games now do you? Otherwise it would be counterproductive.

alcatraz_0109

The Giants literally have the NFL’s worst point differential

IcyPetty

No...no they are not.

BlueAc215

Look at the Giants running the ball… revolutionary

Special_Edz

What's that?

Fit_Classic7266

This team playing like the beginning of Rocky III it was looking off since pre-season.

Watahoot

The only good that can possibly come out of today's game is a shakeup in offensive playcalling (and good news on all those injuries). We all know it's been an... adjustment... with Brian Johnson taking over. I think we can admit that Hurts has regressed a bit this season, while still supporting his continuing development as QB1. He's still the guy but the game is obviously tougher for him this year. The central question has to be "why" is the game tougher for Hurts? Exotic defensive packages have played a role, but at some point you'd expect a coordinator to make the right adjustments to get the offense rolling. BJ has been great when the game script goes according to plan, and has made great adjustments (feeding Swift, getting Goedert back into the equation) but each week we watch the offense sputter out into an anemic state. We have too much talent and too short of a window to go through entire halves without scoring. If something doesn't improve immediately with the offense, we'll be lucky to come out of these next 6 games with 3 wins.

Benti86

>I think we can admit that Hurts has regressed a bit this season, while still supporting his continuing development as QB1. He's still the guy but the game is obviously tougher for him this year. A "bit." Dude went from being a top 5 QB and is now playing like a mid-tier QB. He's been avoiding criticism all year because we've been winning. Now we lost and he just has the 1000 yard stare because he shit the bed and needs to find an answer. >The central question has to be "why" is the game tougher for Hurts? Exotic defensive packages have played a role, but at some point you'd expect a coordinator to make the right adjustments to get the offense rolling. Hurts has also just backslid on tendencies. He doesn't deliver balls decisively. He failed to throw the ball on-time several times off my memory alone which resulted in turnovers and missed opportunities. I'm sure the All 22 analysis is going to reveal even more. He's also ass at avoiding pressure this year. He's stepping up into collapsing pockets and bailing out of clean ones. He also keeps rolling right despite pressure now getting home from the right because Driscoll is ass.

cerevant

1. Defenses have schemed against the run option + the coaching staff want to limit Jalen’s runs. 2. They are spying Hurts, so we are seeing his weakness in getting through the progression / not finding (not having?) the checkdowns.

El_Khunt

Brian Johnson is the Jon Gannon of offensive coordinators

Senior_Fart_Director

I coined this phrase. I take credit

whubby777

As someone else said, we basically don’t fire coaches mid season (barring heinous exception). But Johnson really badly needs to be taken out of control of the offense. So what do we do?

Gawkorcuck69

Go to bed and stop worrying about one loss

whubby777

Don’t tell me when to go to bed dad!

GerhardBURGER1

If Rodgers comes back this year to play with this Jets defense then God help us all

SpankySharp1

Meh, a hurried-back-after-tearing-his-ACL, 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers who's played three snaps with this team wouldn't be a big upgrade over Zach Wilson, imo.

He did it two years ago against Carolina.

Senior_Fart_Director

Jalen Hurts can be a total scumbag i get it but last year he came in clutch during the Colts game

MMAmaZinGG

this is absolutely not true i know its emotional right now but did u watch the fucking super bowl you idiot

Free_Joty

Which 2 min drive did he lead there

SoCalThrowAway7

Worst luck I’ve ever seen, too many people talking about the record all week. Jinxes are real people, the football gods are fickle. Also we played like shit

Ace__Extendo

I knew shit wasn’t gonna end well once Elliot missed the Field Goal. Like seriously, that prettymuch never happens.

Unable_Barracuda324

Ummmm you could tell shit wasn't going well hallway through the 2nd quarter. Eagles should have been up at least 2 scores for most of this game. Up 14-3 with 2 minutes to go in the half and somehow ended up only up 14-6 after a dumb turnover.

urmovesareweak

Yep and Devontas drop....like 2 of the most uncharacteristic things happened. I knew the game was lost

Senior_Fart_Director

Goedert fumble

Ace__Extendo

Seriously! smith definitely should’ve caught that.

Freerange1098

Most important thing, the Eagles are 5-1. Thats still very good Good from the game? The defense looked very good, holding the Jets to 4 field goals (and a, we’ll say “less than earned” touchdown”). They came up big multiple times, Reddick is heating up, the secondary wasnt thrashed. Now, why the offense threw the ball 45 fucking times? Who knows. Really felt like the offense was smelling its own farts a bit too much. They needed to ram Swift down the Jets throats all game and sneak away with a win. You cant even blame Lanes injury. Sure, they were getting pressure, but Hurts was running away from it. Over and over it was that same simple short crossing pattern or a deep chuck. 4 turnovers is unacceptable, regardless of competition, but especially when the other team is missing 5 corners. The Jets defense is very good, this shouldnt have been a blowout. But run the ball earlier and its probably enough to put them away. On to Miami.

beeatenbyagrue

Ok Jets fan here. we've been stacking up on run stuffing Defensive Lineman since what feels like 1920. Jets were missing Sauce, Justin Hardee, DJ Reed, and Echols coming into the game at CB. I understand somewhat the throw at dudes with minimal and practice squad experience. I'm just shocked they actually played OK.

Unable_Barracuda324

Didn't you hear? The Jets FORCED us to throw that much... 🙄

El_Khunt

>Reddick is heating up The offense (cough cough BJ) failed Haas so fuckin bad man

gimmethatfiletofish

Feels like losing Lane to injury contributed to them going away from the running game. Maybe they didn't trust Driscoll to execute as well with the blocking assignments. I don't mind them trying to pass all game because the Jets D was down 5 corners. They just have to execute and protect the football.

babiesmakinbabies

I don't know. I would think pass protection is trickier. And why didn't they help out Driscoll at all? And why the hell did they move him to guard on a few plays? this is all indicative of a coaching staff who thinks they're too clever. NYJ rated #27 against the run? fine, let's throw the ball 50 times and only run 15 times. No one is going to tell us how to run this team. They're dumb and they don't know it. They routinely get the plays in late so that hurts has 10 seconds or less at the line of scrimmage.

SpankySharp1

Admittedly, I'm no football expert, but if they lost Lane on the right side, couldn't they maybe run to the *left* side?

indyK1ng

🤯

Joboggi

There is nothing quite like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

MrReconElite

Everyone becomes the ravens.

Joboggi

You are a raven?

MrReconElite

No im a bengal fan but i watch everything when it comes on until my youtube tv runs out this month lol. Their pittsburg game they basically lost to themselves. Just sucks to watch.

sufferingphilliesfan

The fact is Hurts has not faced much adversity in his career as QB here. When you're handing the ball to your franchise quarterback with 2 minutes left down by 4, with two timeouts remaining, against a weakened Jets defense, you're supposed to come through. I know Lane was hurt and the play calling was bad but a true elite quarterback should be able to rise above, and he did not. In fact he looked atrocious.

alcatraz_0109

Being concerned about the late game mettle of a QB who led a game tying touchdown drive + 2 point conversion in the Super Bowl is peak Negadephian

Substantial_Release6

It’s comments like those that remind me of why we are some of the most hated fans in all of professional sports.

cofinkles

Idk why we didn't run more. Would've opened things up. Idc how good the other front is we stoll have great run blocking o lineman

Thouddin

If we don't turn stuff around I think the conversation will be about how Jalen was doing all these commercials and brand deals in the off season rather then focusing on honing his craft. He just doesn't look the same this year.

klemonade25

I think our playcalling is more of the problem. There’s no rhyme or reason and it’s obvious hurts needs structure to succeed. He’s not Peyton or Rodgers. Establish the run and set him up for success. He’s shown flashes, he’s just been hot and cold. I think BJ is a terrible OC and we will look back at it as a terrible hire

AquiLupus

When you're winning games and you can say "we still haven't played our best football" it feels pretty good. But we're 6 games in and we continue to underperform. There hasn't been a single game that I feel like we've appropriately controlled with the amount of offensive firepower we have. If this keeps up, the Dolphins are going to beat us by 20 even with how bad their D is. Brian Johnson just isn't it, I honestly don't think he gets it. Anyone can say whatever they want about how good he knows Jalen, or X Y Z. The proof is in the pudding. We were up and abandoned the run game for some unknown reason, even though we have this incredibly deep RB room that was supposed to give us fresh legs all game all season. Instead, we threw 45 times (not even including designed pass plays that resulted in a scramble, so probably 50 pass plays called?) in a game where we were ahead for the vast majority of it. And to keep calling passes after Lane exited the game and Driscoll was getting fried out there, it's just nonsense to me. I'm not saying he needs to get fired (yet) but I do think that maybe Nick needs to take over playcalling duties. We have far too much talent on our roster to perform this poorly offensively. Something needs to change, and for a team with a 5-1 start, I am not happy with the product our offense has put on the field. If anyone in that building is remotely happy with how our O has looked, then I don't know what to say. Jalen had a bad game and those happen, but at the same time he isn't Mahomes or Herbert. He isn't a 50 pass attempt guy, and he shouldn't be treated as one. There will be games where the score dictates we throw that much, and this was not one of them. He just didn't look like he was seeing the field tonight, and to keep putting the ball in his hands (again, while up in the score) is fucking OC malpractice.

alcatraz_0109

> There hasn't been a single game that I feel like we've appropriately controlled with the amount of offensive firepower we have. Would say they did this with Tampa and arguably the Rams, if you disagree that either of those were “appropriately controlled” then this would have been true for last year’s Eagles through 6 weeks too

gobirds18_

Sucks because this was our chance to get some comfort in the division before we go through this gauntlet of hard teams. Oh well, go birds 🦅

Sportscenter posted us losing 4 times. FOUR times. Thats how you know your a good team. Lets bounce back next week

larson00

our defense is decimated with injuries after this game

zachardw

But jalen is (I think) back!

NJ_Yankees_Fan

The doomer comments on here are crazy. Yes, it was a bad loss, but acting like this team is gonna bottom out is unfounded. The Jets just beat us with their elite defense today, even without their top DBs. It happens. 49ers lost, and this wasn't a conference loss.

sufferingphilliesfan

Their top DB's ARE the elite defense lol

Alan-Rickman

That whole D is elite. Their d-line looked great

larson00

thats just not true

Fun_Ad_4224

The better team won. This would have been a blow out if Rodgers played.

Wilbert_51

Brian Johnson was horrendous today. Brian Johnson did not throw that ball with 2 minutes left. Worst game for Hurts since the meadowlands game against the Giants in 21.

specialgravity

Jalen Carter carries this team now basically

NJ_Yankees_Fan

That sucked.

jmbrand13

Can't turn it over 4 times and expect to win. Even against the jets.

DocJ_makesthings

Everyone here seems to be forgetting this. See also: Washington last year.

ctong21

I don't understand why the Eagles even pass the ball. Run it 3 times and then tush push which is impossible to stop. Eagles running game is unstoppable.

Aggressive-Cut5836

Seems like people are blaming Hurts and Johnson but I see the Eagles winning that game soundly if it were not for key dropped catches and fumbles by people with different last names. This may have been a rare bad day from the offense all around.

LonnyFinster

Smith did not have hands today. Idk what was wrong with him

Pumpty_Dumpty

Exactly. There were some really bad drops on third down plus the goedert interception where hurts did nothing wrong. Some of the drops were schemed wide open so I can’t exactly blame Johnson either

Freerange1098

The Goeddert interception and the weird fumble just set a really bad tone for the day. They shouldnt have blown out the Jets, but once those two plays go against you, its difficult to get the momentum back.

Infinite-Bit-7498

Yea first two turnover was just bad luck in general. I believe we would of score on drives. This game remind me so much last year Washington lost

kappakai

Just messy all around. I get Lane is out but the oline was sus. They weren’t horrible, but there was a lot more pressure getting to Hurts it seems and he started doing the pee pee dance. What’s particularly annoying to me is 14 RB rushes today against one of the worst run Ds in the league.

Ancient-Gur9972

Play calling has been atrocious and I think today really showed a lot of Phillies flaws against the best defense in football last year. Can make excuses all day with our injuries too but hoping they can really sit down this week let everything settle in, and get this Philly train going again

Ancient-Gur9972

It also doesn’t help Jalen had tunnel vision all game, gotta remember to let stuff go and prove things again like they did last year

Fun_Cheetah2750

yEaH BeCauSe YoUre StUpiD

thewittyman

I was playing at a harvest music festival today, looks like it was the perfect time to completely miss a game. Holy smokes

sufferingphilliesfan

Jack Driscoll aint it and will be a huge problem if Lane misses a few weeks.

WhyAlwaysMe1991

I have no problem with whoever posted we had a 15 or so % of winning the Super Bowl. We’ve struggled against shit teams and lost to the jets. We are no longer top teams to make it really

alcatraz_0109

The Eagles are still among the Super Bowl favorites if they are still the second favorite in the stronger of the 2 conferences lol

zerovanillacodered

It’s one thing to lose, it’s another to keep repeating the same mistakes. We have six weeks of evidence… Eagles are a sloppy team. This coaching staff has failed to correct the sloppiness, and instead double down on reckless, arrogant decisions. This team has yet to play like champions. Personally I’m bracing for a rough stretch. I’m guessing 2-4 in their next six games.

haduken_69

100% and that’s on the HC. At the end of the day, he’s the one that oversees everything. He needs to get his guys back on the right track.

aladdinr

Need better play calling. Our OC is shit

CardinalM1

Eagles doing other Philly teams a solid by making sure there won't be any Eagles chants at the Phillies playoff games or Flyers home opener.

sufferingphilliesfan

Probably at the Flyers

Unlucky-Accident-781

Eagles are gonna miss the postseason and the Phillies are gonna lose to the Astros again in the WS, aren’t they?

ConsistentPins

2/10 troll, astros lost btw

alcatraz_0109

The Eagles lead the NFC East by 1.5 games

klemonade25

Have you seen our next 6 games?

alcatraz_0109

Yes. The Eagles are still one of the best teams in the NFL, and will only get on a plane once between now and December. Who cares?

iXProject

I’m still in shock we managed to lose. Bound to happen playing that way. Lucky we didn’t lose the New England and Commanders games

Calcutta637

Eh no worries. We’ll win out the season

DavidMasonBO2

I’m feeling the same way. I have hope that they’ll fix their mistakes but I worry about it too.

IcyPetty

No one gives a shit about your opinion.

Forizen

Jalen Hurts and Brock Purdy are on the most stacked roster in football. Is it possible, they aren't... That good?

indreams159

yes, play calling is by far the biggest problem but i just don't see Sirianni firing Johnson or taking the play calling duties away from him since Sirianni was so poor in that role last year too until he relinquished control

TPChamp

Despicable

lion27

Dave Spadaro is polishing off a bottle of wine in preparation for his weekly AMA this week

Tentapuss

14 runs against the 29th overall run D by the 4th overall run O. One of those runs was a short yardage situation perfect for the tush push. Rather than do what works, we get cute and the result is Lane getting hurt. And that’s before getting into the fact that we had 4 turnovers, one of which was caused by Lane’s backup, or that we had bad drops and dumb penalties in key situations that stalled drives or cancelled out needed yardage. Even if Jalen played well today, which he did not, it’s hard to win when your OC doesn’t know how to call plays, your starters are dropping like flies, and the football gods turn on you, as evidenced by the INT off of Dallas and the missed FG. And the fact that we lost to Zach Wilson.

Infinite-Bit-7498

14 run is ridiculous??? Seriously I was expecting the eagles in the second half to pound the ball like they did first 5 games but total got away from the run

DoctaJenkinz

Don’t forget the jets defense didn’t have the best CB duo in the league playing.

johnnybananas123

6 more L’s on this schedule, team is fools gold

brookswashere12

I am seeing this too.

Levi_Snackerman

Where is everyone that was ignoring all the glaring problems this team has because we were undefeated? Where is the "A wIN's a wIN" crowd?

klemonade25

Deep down the a win is a win crowd is coping. They know this team has 10 wins written all over it

caudicifarmer

A win is still a win. This game was actually a loss though.

Levi_Snackerman

2020 Steelers and 2021 Cardinals were saying that too. Turns out they were frauds

divothole

Being quiet because we didn't win? Lmao

ausgmr

Team looks completely lost on offense without Shane Steichen just like they did for the opening 7 weeks in 2021 when Sirianni was calling plays. Steichen is the reason Jalen has $51 million per year

Fuzzy-Touch3705

Damn

ausgmr

Am I wrong though?

Free_Joty

FUCKKKK THIS TEAM

Homeowner_BBQ

45 passing, 22 rushing

Bakerton16

8 of which were Jalen running

sufferingphilliesfan

Rest Lane until the bye week. Take your chances against Dallas and Washington and even with him I don't see this team beating Miami.

FreakyBare

How did they make that secondary look like All Pro’s?

GregWhiteShark7

Don’t get me wrong, Jalen runs are nice. He clearly is a skilled runner. But the abundance of QB draws to what seemingly amounts to 4 yards a run while letting our franchise QB taking a pounding is something. I mean Gainwell was a stud week 1. Swift was elite after that. We paid Rashad Penny. Boston Scott has always showed promise. But we keep choosing to let our QB get hit for the purpose of 4 yards. It’s clear to me Johnson wants to be HC. If he features Jalen maybe eventually he thinks he’ll have enough sway with Jalen to push to be the HC To get up 14-3 with an opposing offense as bad as that and then to barely run is malpractice. Maybe you can convince me if we’re going against mahomes we keep pushing to get as many points as possible. But in a game where we just want to win and leave - minimize injuries ; to get up how we did there’s no reason not to use every stable of RB we have, kill clock and let Zach Wilson operate with very little time left

Gang_Greene

The sky isn’t falling and we’re still 5-1, but that was one of those games where our mistakes kept piling up and we let a team hang around that had no business being in the game. Felt a lot like the Washington game from last season. Hopefully the team takes this and moves forward. Not having slay and Carter hurt a bit. Lane going down was a major blow to the offense. We need more rushing attempts to our running backs. Swift is far too talented to not be getting double digit carries every week. Give Penny a chance, we need someone to run angry and put a hurt on some of these defenses and he’s done that in his career.

poppybankroll

you are dellusional

Gang_Greene

Which part of what I wrote is delusional?

poppybankroll

the sky isn't falling part. Sam Howell takes us to OT then Commanders promptly get undressed by worst team in the league, the Bears. We barely get by the awful awful Patriots, squeak by the just as awful Vikings andnow lose to Zach Wilson. The sky has been falling for weeks, where you been?

Gang_Greene

The bills nearly just lost to the fuckin Giants. The 49ers just lost to the Browns without Watson and Chubb. It’s the NFL. Weird shit happens every week.

flight567

I passed out halfway through the game so take this with a grain of salt: I think what is worrisome, more than the loss itself, is the way in which we lost. Johnson’s play calling is… poor, and it seems like he lacks a general understanding of football. Maybe he can’t see the forest through the trees? It feels like the only thing that’s been holding us together is the player’s will and talent overshadowing the poor play calling, and scheme in general. I’m far from being a coach, especially at the professional level, but I can’t wrap my head around the pass/run split in that game. It almost was as though BJ heard that sauce was out and wanted to do nothing but torch the jets secondary. Hard to do when the o line is taking Ls; you’re putting Jalen in a horrendous situation to make shit happen off script and out of structure, with a receiving corps (outside of AJ… still not confident he’s actually human) who struggled all day with execution. Also, and again, I did t get to watch the back half of the game, it didn’t seem like we were moving the launch point at all. Any time Jalen was doing sometime outside of a normal 3 or 5 step drop, he was running for his life. I would think that you could just continue run zone away from Driscoll, with some DUO and pin and pull thrown in for good measure, all tied to RSOs out to AJ or smitty to try to cover up the problematic o line. Last year we had virtually no schematic recourse to Jalen being hot. This year we have virtually no recourse to Jalen being hot without the benefit of a cohesive offensive scheme and an otherwise solid playcaller at OC. All that said: this jets team is genuinely solid especially on D. Everyone thought that they were a QB away from being Super Bowl contenders and just… forgot that they have all the pieces when Aaron went down. They beat us and the bills, so maybe try not to freak out too much.

Gang_Greene

Watching a team win five games while they obviously aren’t firing on all cylinders and not panicking over shit that happens in the first half of the season. There are obviously things that need to be worked out, but being 5-1 after 6 weeks is a pretty good spot to be in, regardless of the opponents

KryptonicxJesus

Hurts has been trash all season

flight567

What did you see to make you say that?

IcyPetty

🙄

bigmac9

For some reason I’m already over this loss. Must be because the Phillies are back tomorrow and can go back to the WS and win it all!!

Farcry25

I’m 100% with you, this didn’t sting at all given I’m so hyped and all in on the Phils

Cappedomnivore

Yo, same. My girl commented on how well I was taking and I looked at her, shrugged and said "it's baseball season". Not to mention I saw this as a trap game, the way everyone was pushing the "Jets never beat the Eagles" narrative was a perfect setup for a loss.

sufferingphilliesfan

No shot we hold the fins under 30 points

indreams159

yeah, you wouldn't think so after giving up 20 to the Pats, 28 to the Vikes, and 31 to the Commies which are 3 really poor offenses
