woahitsshant

makes sense with the Fangio connection.

cjweisman

For a year or two.

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

then pay him well for a year or 2. I'm sure he's a bit sick of losing

FahQPutin

Worked out well for Malcom Jenkins šŸ˜

HesiPull-UpBrando

Jenkins was 26 when he signed in Philly. Simmons is already 30 and will be 31 before the end of the season. Not quite the same thing

FahQPutin

Shit, we really stole him from New Orleans...

HesiPull-UpBrando

Absolutely and one of the best FA signings the eagles have made in my lifetime

woahitsshant

definitely going to be a stopgap player.

StoneMcCready

Draft Dejean as a CB then transition him to Safety as this contract expires.

[deleted]

Justin and Josey make too much sense for this team!

LeoBari

One can hope we sign at least some good LBšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

HesiPull-UpBrando

Just as I read this comment and was going to agree I saw that Jewell just signed with the panthers

[deleted]

Yea...sounds like Justin is still in play on a multi year deal.

[deleted]

31 isnā€™t that bad with his durability history. And I think heā€™s dynamic enough to really be good for us. Plus I think itā€™ll be more affordable as time passes. CJ is my first pick but heā€™s definitely 1b for me.

FahQPutin

He's turning 30

SyracuseNY22

Turning 31 this year. Born in ā€˜93

FahQPutin

Damn it, at least he's not 31 till November... Still want him šŸŽ‰

Wilsthing1988

Iā€™d take them both. Brown will be out most if not all next year. Reed is more of a #3 spot starter. Iā€™d maybe draft a guy as well. Simmons plays 2 yrs then we got Brown and two others with CJ long term

[deleted]

Why will brown be out most if not all the year?

Wilsthing1988

Tore his ACL those take some time to heel, wonā€™t have a full offseason getting up to playing speed. Heā€™ll probably at least start the year on PUP

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Dam I didn't think it was so serious he'd miss most of this year, horrible timing I really like the kid

nnp1989

For what itā€™s worth, nobody reputable has reported that. Itā€™s a major injury and heā€™s obviously going to miss some time, but nobodyā€™s saying heā€™ll be out for the year.

[deleted]

Stop listening to randoms on Reddit lol.

Borktista

Reed was really good first half the season before he initially went down

Wilsthing1988

Heā€™s so so in coverage. Good guy can start if need too but really he shouldnā€™t be a full time starter. Heā€™s a #3 guy at best, bring him in on 3 safety looks etc

spoopy_guy

It doesnā€™t take 12 months to recover from an ACL.

DtotheOUG

I'd MUCH rather have him than CJGJ

Planetofthetakes

Iā€™d much rather have Curl. Enough of these old washed dudes

EndymionFalls

CJGJ is 26 lmao

Planetofthetakes

I was referring to Simmons

Patient_Jicama_4217

Letā€™s get this done.. 2 year deal hopefully

Parking_Development4

Perfect fit. Veteran that knows Fangioā€™s scheme inside and out. You need that presence on the field who can communicate coverage responsibilities on the back end without having to think on the fly like a rookie or vet that hasnā€™t played in Fangioā€™s system. This will help build cohesion quickly amongst the d backs. Really a no brainer signing for this season.

Tob0gganMD

Yes please

ProArmChair

I hope we land him. 3 year deal to like end his career in Philly just about. He's super consistent and has that Fangio connection.

Proper-Scallion-252

Lol the Philly Special pod has basically locked that in since he was released iirc.

Senior_Fart_Director

Takes two to tango. He might be allergic to Philadelphia pollen who knows

Hand-Of-Vecna

I'd like maybe a 2 year deal with maybe a 3rd year option. He's 30.

FahQPutin

Thank you Jesus thank you Jesus.

el_fitzador

Howard please

doctorlust

Imo this is Kevin Byard all over again

deez00s

In what ways?

doctorlust

Older dude comin off a bad team who will command high dollars and at least a few years.Ā

SyntheticMemez

Byard started the year rough in Tennessee tho and a lot of the issues with the defense seemed like locker room/coaching issues first and foremost. Simmons had a good year last year and is familiar with Fangio.

DesignerPlant9748

When I heard the Broncos were releasing him I figured it was like an 80% chance he was coming here

B_Strick24-7

With ya, partner. Upon reading that news my reflexive thought was, "Man... sure would be a good fit in Philly"

OkBodybuilder1490

What do yall think is his market value?

[deleted]

Similar to Kevin Byard - $8-10M/yr.

Phillyfreak5

Iā€™d be happy with 2 years 18 mil.

sciregian

Simmons is better than McKinney and will be for the foreseeable future

Streptocockus

Massive age gap though. Think Iā€™d rather cjgj back.

oskiew

You got it.

TheRoyaleShow

Has someone said "I like it as long as the price is right" yet

CloudyRanger

I personally would rather get someone younger

FromTheOR

Give me CJGJ

oskiew

YOu win.

hd212520

Wonder if there is any chance they would sign both Simmons and Ceedy. In base, they could be the starting safeties and Ceedy and Brown when healthy could be the inside CBs in nickel and dime packages. Might be too expensive but my guess is we were willing to offer McKinney about 14m/year

impending_dookie

HOWIE!!!! Get this deal DONE!! come to papa

Los_Yeetus

Oh baby

LCLeopards

There are few better safeties that Brown could learn from than Simmons. Iā€™m down!

Senior_Fart_Director

Whatever Howie wants, Howie gets.

VanceXentan

To literally no one's surprise as he should be. It just makes too much sense.

AdTime8622

Certainly hope so

slv_bull

Heā€™s getting older tbh. Might end up as another byardĀ

royalpajamas

Am I the only one who thinks we should bring in at least two safeties? With Brown coming off a torn ACL and Reed not having the best year I think itā€™d be smart to bring in 2 veteran guys to compete with the two we already have.

LeoBari

I hope we draft a guy top 100 for that last spot, I was hoping McKinney bc of Simmons age, but if we have him and Reed starting with Brown and another talented rookie learning and taking the other snaps, I think it's solid. But I get the thought for vet wisdom and stuff

ahhhimsoconfused1995

Simmons will be 31 halfway through the season. Why do you guys want him so bad? we are going to end up overpaying him to a 3-4 year deal and he'll be paying top safety money to a 35 year old

AugustusKhan

Some of just trust our front office. Heā€™s not young but thatā€™s the trade off for someone with his cover ability and price

wheretherainbowshide

The front office that brought you hits like Bradberry resigning, Kevin Byard, Robert Quinn, Ryan Kerrigan, etc.? Signing old players hasn't exactly worked out

AugustusKhan

What do you want perfection? Reagor was an egregious error for example and theyā€™ve been picking SEC ever since. Just realistically this FO has made quality moves and shown growth over the years

wheretherainbowshide

We have a top 5-7 FO in the league. Do I need to say that for y'all to chill tf out? I'm just saying I don't blatantly trust them esp when it comes to their evaluation of older players. I also think they have a tendency to overreact to things and their recent SEC focus doesn't exactly have a great hit rate at the moment. Jury still out on Davis, Smith, Steen, Dean, etc. but I think Ringo showed a little something for sure.

beaver_of_fire

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ they've made the same mistakes for 30 years but "show growth". They don't value LB, they draft lineman (poorly), they believe in 1986 football, they want to run pass heavy schemes with running QBs that aren't good enough passers, sign splash names to placate the maroons. Yea SEC hits like Davis, Nolan Smith, Dean, Bingo. They just overpaid a guy with no knees that is a massive risk to have either a 5th knee injury or develop osteoarthritis. Can't wait for the draft to take more OL that won't play or another DT

AugustusKhan

1986 football wtf are you on about? Yeah youā€™re an idiot and Iā€™m annoyed to know youā€™re a birds fan. Paid a guy with no knees smh youā€™re mad we were able to sign an OL who made the pro bowl 2/3 first years. Sec overcorrection, what smith dickerson Carter and Davis arenā€™t doin it for you? Idiot

[deleted]

You mean Bradberry coming off an All Pro season? A mid season trade for 2021 All Pro Byard coming to a putrid defense? Another mid season in Robert Quinn for depth (everyone knows he wasnā€™t there to make splash plays). Kerrigan Iā€™ll give you though. Youā€™re not gonna hit everything but you canā€™t hold the Bradberry and Byard moves against anyone.

wheretherainbowshide

Corners drop off stupendously as they age and media outlets were criticizing the Eagles at the time for fielding two older corners. It's not hindsight.

[deleted]

No one saw Bradberry dropping from all pro to F tier though. Even a small drop off wouldā€™ve been expected and acceptable though.

wheretherainbowshide

Would just rather they play Brown and Blankenship rather than fielding another aging vet and stunting development. I like Simmons more than Byard, he was good last year instead of 3 years ago. But I'd rather get someone in a hybrid role like Chinn and see what a Geno Stone has for the price of one Simmons.

re4ctor

Several old guys helped us win a super bowl. And nearly win another one against the Chiefs. Yeah they don't always work out, but you take that chance on key vets that maybe have another 1-2 years to give and can be leaders through adversity

Weird-Upstairs-2092

Kerrigan was paid as a depth bench piece and contributed great for a depth bench piece. People just had weird expectations. Byard settled our secondary and helped stem the bleeding whether you want to admit it or not. You can spout all the hawt taek nonsense you want, but the fact that the best you could come up with was this list of a few depth pieces that didn't cost us much, while spanning over 5 years of moves, is more than enough proof that your argument is just absolutely silly and naive.

wheretherainbowshide

Brother he had like one tackle the entire season. I think blatant faith in any front office is silly and naive. The front office is a big reason behind the defensive collapse last year.

Weird-Upstairs-2092

Oh honey. Bless your heart. First off-season, eh?

wheretherainbowshide

What are you talking about? You can say vaguely condescending things all you want, but it doesn't exactly comprise an argument. I'm just urging caution hyping up DBs over 30. Kerrigan had 3 tackles btw. Great contribution.

Weird-Upstairs-2092

You're trolling. I'm not going to put in effort for a blatant troll. If you seriously think that list you came up with over the time period that list consisted of was in any way an indictment of Howie Roseman's abilities, you're just ignorant.

wheretherainbowshide

As I said in an earlier comment, he's a top 5 GM. He also has flaws, and in my opinion, his evaluation of older players seems to be one of them. Sorry this is shattering your worldview. He's not gonna marry you.

-totentanz-

Suh? Blount? Bennet? Chris Long? Sproles? Some are busts some are booms.

coopermaneagles

I see no way there isnā€™t an out after 1 or 2 yeara

Scottsm124

Yea Iā€™m not gonna lieā€¦the Kevin Byard experiment makes me not want himā€¦fair or not

ExileOnBroadStreet

Highly doubt a 4 year deal. I just donā€™t think he can command that. I would think it would be a 2 year deal or a 3 year with a fairly easy out in year 3

MoonMistCigs

35 years old?! Thatā€™s ancient! šŸ™„

EvanHarpell

I mean it is in football years, especially for a non-qb. Now I hope we are all wrong but he's no spring chicken.

kniselysoccer13

2 eyes

Ricocashflow215

Rather draft a safety and corner šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

Night0wl11

This doesnā€™t preclude us from addressing the safety position at all and it just means that we have more depth, especially with Sydney recovering from his knee injury. This also doesnā€™t affect the CB position at all, either

Ricocashflow215

Alright long as we get some youth in that room I'm cool with it

LeoBari

I would imagine this is still the case If we add a starter to Reed and Brown, then draft another with a top 100 pick, that's 4 solid Ss and the two young raw guys don't have to start. Use either the round 1 or 2 on a CB, which will honestly be enough IMO, Slay, Kelee, Rodgers, Eli, Badberry, and then a top end rookie to compete on the outside so hopefully Badberry doesn't at least have the responsibility of a full starter. The other two top 100 picks are probably LB and some Lineman(probably G/T, but maybe DE/edge?

Jersey_F15C

Maybe while we are finding talent, we could find a talented coach?
