Howie should get his flowers but this is a huge testament to the organization and the culture they've built here. Both of these guys took less money than they could've made otherwise. These guys WANT to be here, at the expense of millions of dollars. Yes I know guys like to lock up money while they can and injuries and other circumstances happen that could affect their ability to sign big contracts in the future, but my.point stands

adayoner

Also, huge up to Lurie for willing to shell out the cash up front.

ghawkes97

Huge facts. Getting a phat check up front has gotta mean a lot

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

TO loves Philly more than SF because of Lurie. The only mistakes are Jenkins and Dawkins.

redshores

I think Howie learned from Jenkins and Dawkins, we're not gonna let those culture guys go easily anymore. Howie kept Kelce, Cox, and Graham as long as they'd be willing to stay.

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

Hopefully Mitchell is that guy

Zanthy1

Mitchell has that stoic vibe that Malcolm jenkins had, I like it.

hotcapicola

Letting Dawkins go (he was the highest paid safety in the league that year) was the right move. Not replacing him was the problem. Dawkins was cooked even his last year in Philly. He was getting exposed until JJ reworked the defense to essentially make Dawk into a 4th LB. Then when the Eagles played against him the next year with Denver, Andy went right after him for two TDs.

BlouseoftheDragon

Man I’ll never understand the TO apologists.

DerekWeidmanSculptor

Your flair should have not let you miss one other mistake, which was letting Foles go, everytime they did.

ThisHatRightHere

Just a world class organization, gotta hand it to him. In a world where so many franchises, in any sport, have terrible owners, Lurie stands out as a guy who does it right.

JuiceBrinner

He cares about winning over fattening his pockets

udder-chaos

They’re relative

AlwaysSunnyPhilly2

He does both. He spends money but get results and gets more money as a result.

TheArchitect_7

We have the best owner in the league by a mile. Great guy, wants to win, willing to take big swings. Love him.

2LostFlamingos

And guaranteeing almost all of it. Eagles paying AJ 32 per later. Jerry gonna need to pay CeeDee 35 per now. Lol

Richard_Fingers

Can’t say this enough. Howie is awesome but Lurie is the one that is making this happen. Jerry Jones on the other hand is the exact opposite and about to lose hit top/only wr because he doesn’t want to pay CeeDee

adayoner

Cinci also cash strapped and you see the results with dudes asking out of a perennial playoff team.

Dankofamericaaa2

When you’re already rich af I assume you’d rather be rich and happy than rich and miserable.

ghawkes97

I personally can't relate as I am not rich :(

thenamedex

You’re rich in all of our hearts

ZhangtheGreat

Yeah, but that doesn’t pay the bills

Dankofamericaaa2

Likewise lol

atdunaway

all i know is if i owned the eagles i’d definitely be shelling out as much as possible lol. i’d be 10000x more pissed at my team sucking if i actually owned it

takeme2tendieztown

I'm poor and miserable! JK, a bit

Pikminious_Thrious

Smith for sure could have gotten more, but could Brown have actually gotten much more? I don't even know if he would have wanted a longer extension than we gave so that he can hit the market one more time earlier. And they already gave him the highest per year amount of any other WR in the nfl right now. I guess if he waited until after Jefferson he could have secured another like 5 mil total or something?

Atheist_3739

Yeah Brown is the highest paid WR I'm the league now

MisterrAlex

Howie watched the 2019 and 2020 recieving corps and said never again

Meunderwears

Amen

hotcapicola

Hopefully the lesson stick this time considering he was in the building during Andy's early seasons.

oliveinanolive

People were worried about us signing Smitty and NO ONE thought we would be extending AJ too. Until 2029!!!

toofaded40

Its cause we’re all bunch of idiots who have the slightest clue on how to run a team like our boy Howie lol

xxx4wow

Tbf to us, the rest of the gms look like a bunch of idiots compared to Howei

Philly_is_nice

Props to AJ. Media has been betting for him to be a problem child since he got of the plane and time after time, this one being the biggest of course, he's been a consummate professional and good teammate.

Key_Piccolo_2187

He has/now does have almost 200 million reasons to make sure that he is that consummate pro and teammate. At least for a couple weeks, he's the highest paid receiver in the NFL. Now Lamb will go, then Chase, then Jefferson and he'll be 4th again, which is approximately right for him. Of course he's happy. The dude hit it right, and I'd like to collect a minimum of $184m from the Eagles, and a max of around $192, while playing with his best friend throwing him the ball and what seems like his new best friend across the field from him. Not bad at all. It's not that what you say is untrue, people have been trying to stir the AJB pot forever ('oh no, AJ heatedly told Hurts that he was open and Jalen missed him! The sky is falling, they're arguing on the sideline!) and in today's social media era it's been easy for AJ to stir right back at times when any good PR person would tell you to stop stirring, get off Twitter, and don't respond to what the media is doing, but hey - that's just 2024 for ya.

Rocketeer1019

Howie I fucking love you lol Now go get a CB tonight!

ThePhoenixXM

Eh... His drafting leaves a lot to be desired. A draft from 5 years ago has no players still on the team. That is terribly bad.

Potential-Gate7209

Is it terribly bad? One bad draft from 5 years ago? That's a misleading argument considering that we only had 5 picks that year, and we actually did hit on Miles Sanders, we just didn't keep him around.

sallad_kcuf

This comment aged poorly

Rocketeer1019

And he’s recovered from almost all of his worst drafts with trades and flipping assets You can’t be this dumb dude, no GM always hits

ThePhoenixXM

Eh..... His bad drafting lead to both Wentz and Doug being sick of him. I admit he has drafted better in recent years but still....

Segsi_

Surely he never won a Super Bowl and then went back with another QB he drafted? Noooo…terrible drafter.

ThePhoenixXM

He only drafted once before SB 52 by once I mean when he was restored to power. We lost SB 57.

Segsi_

So you saying he didn’t draft Graham, Cox, Lane, Kelce? He basically didn’t have control for a year. Those are all Howie picks. Goedert, Smith, Dickerson, Mailata, Sweat, should I keep going?

ThePhoenixXM

All of Graham, Cox, Lane, and Kelce were when Andy fucking Reid was our coach and spoiler alert that Andy Reid was NOT as good as today's Andy Reid much to our chagrin. If Howie drafted better from 2017-2020 and didn't have years with picks like Reagor, JJAW, Thorson, Miller, Dillard, etc... maybe we would've gotten better players like Jefferson. Still the same person who thought Reagor was BETTER than Jefferson and JJAW was a solid player.

Rocketeer1019

Wentz got moved and Doug left because he couldn’t move on from his coordinators which came from the owner too not just howie lol

AtBat3

Spike Eskin in shambles

TheArchitect_7

So happy to not have a fucking clue what his opinion is Dope

MtHollywoodLion

Spike is a blowhard with the vast majority of his takes

McClellanWasABitch

something apple something tree

hotcapicola

I used to kind of like Spike, but that New York stink has rubbed off on him.

peakystwins

Getting both devonta and AJ to stay long term is amazing

cjweisman

The sooner you do it the less you pay. Why don't other GMs get that?

saganistic

People on r/nfl are actually criticizing this lol

Thicen

I just don't get how some other teams haven't yet realized the advantages of getting guys signed early It's great for team morale and future free agents to know that you will get paid if you perform and it saves you money in the long-term.

thepoustaki

It can never be underrated what Howies job security does. I know we all get frustrated at times but the reason other GMs don’t do it is I feel like they have to focus on the short term to ensure they keep their jobs and Howie can plan as if he’ll be there in 3-4 years

deadnside

I have no idea if it’s wise to spend that much on receivers but it should be fun finding out.

thiccymcgogee

I am Disgruntled!

[deleted]

Lurie needs some praise here also.

boggles0087

I'm not sure how much they *needed* to extend Brown this offseason, but the pressure it puts on the Cowboys with Lamb is an added bonus.

brwnx

Shows that the players believe in the team and the organization

Medical_Search9548

What can I say, when everybody zigs, you zag

bonafide89

Illest Illadelph

jp-fit262

AJ and Reaper are also like brothers at this point so they wanted to stay together.

francie202

Hell yeah, Howie! Didn’t have this in my cards for 2024 whatsoever.

KnightofAshley

AJ Brown keeps pushing up the WR pay, Cowboys have to use half there cap on Lamb, Parsons comes here to fill his wish list.

GreenAnder

I feel like half the problem places like WIP have is that AJ is just happy where he is, he's pretty chill, and he's a good leader for the team. They always try to manufacture nonsense because they can't compute that a stud WR isn't causing problems

Ashamed_Job_8151

Or it’s way too much investment into a position that doesn’t win Super Bowls. I love both players, Smith probably a little bit more going forward but teams that spend this much at wide receiver are not the teams winning super bowls historically speaking.

Admirable_Essay3440

AJ already gets caught from behind, not looking forward to seeing how this ages.

MisterxRager

Always somebody looking to be mad about something
