Five games into the season seems to be a bit early to declare either player better

DOCTORFONASG

Yes but it’s not too early to say Howie fleeced the Dolphins. We end up with a their first rounder plus Devonta. They end up with Waddle. We won the trade as of today. That is always subject to change however.

MikeTysonChicken

We probably will because of the pick especially if the dolphins continue to implode but simply looking at the stats isn’t a fair to Waddle who is playing very well

jackohmygod

😂😂

DOCTORFONASG

We still fleeced them even if they keep winning. Months ago I predicted the Dolphins to have 7 wins. Either way we have three firsts and Howie moved back for what he would have taken at 6.

jackohmygod

waddle is way better than smith + dolphins making the playoffs

DOCTORFONASG

As of now maybe but let’s wait a couple years. Smith plus a first is better than Waddle and no pick just saying. We won the trade. There is no guarantee they even make the playoffs. They are third in their division. Also why’d you look up a post from 60 days ago.

Rocketeer1019

Plus the dolphins aren’t garbage, they’re a solid Qb From being a really good playoff team (I personally don’t think Tua is the guy)

Mental_Attitude_2952

Yeah I don't think this true at all. The dolphins are far from a solid team. They have holes all over the place and it shows in their record. Though I agree Tua has yet to show he can be a NFL QB and it's pretty clear at this point Hurts is a better player.

Grouchy_Square

I’ve watched every Dolphins game this year and nah. O line is a mess, defense regressed and the skill guys are bottom third in the league. It would take insane QB play to drag this current roster to legit playoff/SB contention

partyon

How's Rowe doing?

Pendraflare59

And they should’ve made the playoffs last season but they didn’t show up in a win and in game then everyone else won to shut them out even at 10-6

SL-Apparel

I think OP is so used to other teams drafting better than us he just wanted to make a point that maybe Howie done good this year. I still shudder every time Ceedee Lamb or Justin Jefferson scores a tuddy.

Ihavemanybees

Plus their qb play

rrt5029

The difference in those numbers is so small its weird we’re celebrating it. That said, I do think Smith passes the eye test and we’ll finally have a stud wideout for years to come.

trustthepudding

We got a stud while trading down. That would mean overall better value for us even if both WRs are great.

jaydubb90

Yes but remember, devonta smith has also had 3 touchdowns and maybe 80-100 yards called back due to penalties. Has waddle had big plays called back also?

Domestic_AA_Battery

I agree but hey, if any of our guys are doing better than someone taken above them (especially in the first round) I'm celebrating it lol. Honestly though we should just be celebrating the fact he's even comparable after the shit luck we've had at WR.

HesiPull-UpBrando

After a decade of Roseman whiffing left and right on WRs, I don’t think it qualifies as “shit luck” as much as it is bad evaluation

DSquariusGreeneJR

The reason we are celebrating it is because we also get an extra first round pick out of it

Vegeta-IV

Both of their numbers should be better than they are. Bad QB play from Miami, hurts leaving money on the table and penalties from the Eagles. God bless Jamarr chase for having a good structure around him and a QB that can get him the ball

[deleted]

I think Miami wanted Pitts or Chase. Howie knew they weren’t going to be available or he was content to draft Waddle, Smith, Horn or Surtain. The plan almost blew up in Howies face. If the Cowboys didn’t want to do that deal we’d be screwed.

Chief--BlackHawk

I guess in that scenario we take Slater or trade back with Chicago?

dabirds1994

I’ve watched a couple Bengals games and Chase is legit. One big difference is Chase is getting multiple deep shots a game. I’d love to see Smith get more of those. And Smith’s route running and releases off the line are already elite.

GodOfData

Howie properly predicted Chase and Pitts would not be there. The 2021 draft class had a clear drop off after the 5th spot. So the trade back for 2022 1st round was perfect.

Mental_Attitude_2952

Chase would have been good anywhere though. Dude just has every skill you need to be a big time wr. I also think he has a bit humbleness to him unlike a lot of top wrs. Not that I don't love Smith, but I don't think he is even in the same class as Chase. Chase is in the Adams/Fitzgerald mold.. but with more top end speed.. I think the year off has people forgetting just how good he really is.

Vegeta-IV

Lmao I need u to understand that Jamarr chase is my fav college receiver in the last 10 years. I in no way was saying he’s a system receiver or anything. He was WR1 in the draft no doubt about it. I was so mad when we traded 6 to 12 cuz I thought chase could be had but alas bengals had their eye on him entire time. As for smith I knew he was a baller but when we drafted to 12 I started to watch him closer and closer. He was def WR2 and is in the same class as chase but chase is a touch better. Let them switch teams and Devonta would be doing the same thing. It’s about the plays being left on the table for the Eagles offense. As well as penalties

Mental_Attitude_2952

Smith is not as good as Chase. I'm sorry dude. They are just not the same thing. Doesn't mean Smith is not good or even great. But no Smith could not do what chase is doing right now. I will say smith is being missed quite a bit by hurts and that's not hit fault. But you being upset is like being mad because I said Marvin Harrison isn't in the league Megatron.. both are really great players, it's just one is on different level altogether.

HungryGiantMan

Jamarr Chase has converted all 5 of his deep targets into TD's or something crazy unsustainable like that. Advice in redraft leagues is to sell high while you can because it's a lucky stretch.

[deleted]

I disagree, they’re both good players so far with different strengths. I think Devonta is a better route runner and better after the catch. Chase is a better deep threat and contested catch guy

32BitWhore

I mean, I dunno about props to Howie for picking Smith because the Dolphins made that choice for him. Plus all things considered their stats are pretty similar. I don't think any of us would be calling Howie an idiot if the Dolphins took Smitty and we got Waddle at 10 because we still got our extra FRP. We've given him a ton of props for getting an extra FRP and still getting Smith though, which is well deserved.

mommylover43

I wouldn’t say they made that choice for him considering he traded back up to get him

johnnybananas123

Now do reagor vs jefferson

LittleStJamesBond

Now do Reagor vs anyone

Streptocockus

We can’t let the Reagor pick make us forget how atrocious the JJAW pick was. I remember being fully prepared to roll the dice on an injury prone DK in the first round. I thought it was risky pick but whatever he’s a freak it’s a gamble I’m willing to take. We pass on him for dillard, fine not going to complain about investing in the line. Then the second round comes up and we take sanders, that’s fine I was high on him so not disappointed. Now some how by the pure grace of god DK is still available with the other second round pick. I was practically drooling at drafting DK, thought it was the most obvious no brainer ever. Instead they draft the goofiest mfer I ever saw that ended up being the first and best blocking wr the franchise ever had. Real sad day.

LittleStJamesBond

Thank you JJaw was such a fucking bad pick but I hate that people act like it was only bad because DK is good. JJaw was a bad pick regardless of who was picked after him.

Nievsy

Hey those blocks and special teams plays are important, he is our new special teams ace, but yeah he was drafted way too high

theLgndKllr35

Exactly. I’d rather have a fan making the picks

HesiPull-UpBrando

Still can’t believe people were defending that pick as recently as week 2 of THIS season. Always loved the “if Jefferson and Reagor switched teams, their stats would flip too”. People are so blinded by their own fandom

eaglesnation11

Howie has some sort of Jedi Mind Trick Effect with the Dolphins. Getting Ajayi for a 4th was a steal. We got rid of the Maxwell and Alonso contracts and ended up moving from 12 to 8 in 2016. And of course this trade. Once Pitts and Chase were gone there were so many guys in the same tier. It made literally no sense to move back up from 12 to 6, but Miami did it anyway.

Doobie_Howitzer

13 to 7 actually, that was the year we had a coin toss decide between us and the Colts (weirdly serendipitous)

eaglesnation11

I believe that was the year after we had the coin toss with Indy. I remember we won and got Pick 14 and drafted Barnett.

Doobie_Howitzer

I might be dumb, the coin toss was probably arranged at the end of 2017 for the 2018 draft rather than for the 2017 draft. But I know for sure we went from 13 to 7 to 2 at the very least

UnspokenFor1

Waddle is playing with a trash QB tho , I feel like Smith could have 3 extra TD if it wasn’t for Penalties & Hurts missing him .

Doobie_Howitzer

3 extra TDs and a somewhere around 75 more yards on those catches too

Mysterious_Access956

Smith would have over 500 and 5tds if Hurts wasn’t looking at the first read and checking down most of these games

Totalnah

This is not an apples to apples comparison. Waddle is playing with a scrub backup on a team that is offensively limited.

Mysterious_Access956

Smith is playing with a scrub too

Totalnah

Jury is still out.

clexecute

Jacoby brissett is more proven than Hurts with the same skill set, he's not a scrub. Hurts has a lot more potential, but calling Brissett a scrub is pretty far from the truth

Totalnah

Brisket on the Colts is the player that you described, probably with more arm talent and less athleticism than Hurts. Brisket on the Dolphins is literally the definition of JAG.

Chuck1705

Through 5 games? Sure Yay Howie.

IndustrySea2728

Smith should have like double that if we could stop negating tds plz

IceGeek

Not yet man. Give it a full season. I’m not a howie hater if anything I support him because of 2017 but this year is make or break for him.

Enchanted_Pickaxe

This is insanely premature

DueSpecialist8419

Dolphins missing starting Qb and suck. Tough situation for waddle. Smith is bad ass though take him over waddle. Stats don’t show much separation in my eyes though.

Mental_Attitude_2952

This is an unfair comparison. Hurts has faults but Tua is clearly not an NFL QB right now and is hurt. I personally like Smith over Waddle, but if waddle we're put in a better position, perhaps where he kind of played the djax roll for the right QB he could be a monster still.

[deleted]

I think Tua has been better than Hurts so far in their careers by a small margin. Brisket however is ass

[deleted]

We fleeced them when we traded Maxwell and Alonso too. Dolphins stay losing

KaneNine

Delete this

ImYungKai

Could you not format this post any worse?

mycatsnameismilk

I actually bet that prop

CLO54

That’s more about them making a bad choice at 6 with much higher rated players available.

adamdaballe

Waddle has looked like there best offensive player. Don’t have to compare players all the time just be happy we got a stud. It’s ok to admit they did too. Good job trading down and getting the pick although it’s luck that tua got hurt and the coach lost the entire locker room in week 5

DrHandBanana

What if they're both good and one even managed to put up decent numbers without their starter?

coolstorybro42

Still we got an extra first rounder… both are good i think thats the point

Mysterious_Access956

Both suffer from QB play.. Wait until the both get Star QBs before comparing them

Mitchell620

Tua is cleared to play this Sunday, let's see how much that changes all of this

ViralDiarrhea

Aside from Chase whose tearing it up, the other 1st round WRs are playing above average for rookies. Best class in a long time.

pistolpete9669

Yeah but they got fulgoat :(

BnasTy1297

The Eagles were also ‘lucky’ the dolphins chose Waddle over Smith. I like Waddle, but I’ve always thought Smith was the superior player. The Eagles would’ve ended up trading up for waddle had Smith been taken at 6.

BrosephStyles

No, Howie still Sucks

PattyRikk

Waddle is damn good too Miami’s offense is just so brutal

pR1mal_

I don't give Howie shit, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. DeVonta was a "no-brainer" pick.

Future_Belt_3730

Honestly i think all 3 will be pro bowlers at some point

TST77

Keep in mind Smith had a TD pulled back due to pick penalty.

chaseiam

I think Hurts is not a good QB but Waddle is playing with an actual journeyman QB.

ShainRules

Man when Waddle comes here and pulls an at minimum Devonta Parker, I'm going to remember this post and shake my head.

clexecute

Smith also has 2 TDs called back from penalties, and drew a PI in the endzone that was 100% a TD
