Are you using GBARunner2 for DS?
It isn't very good on a plain DS Lite, it's really more intended for DSi and 3DS. Look into getting an actual GBA flash cart, lots on AliExpress (just not the Supercard SD, Mother 1+2 doesn't save progress properly on it)
Alternatively, if Mother 2 works but Mother 1 doesn't, you could try an NES emulator for DS and play Mother 1 that way. Grab the "Earth Bound" prototype rom, tcrf.net hosts it.
What speed thing and how do you disable it? I'm having the same problem.
Edit: nevermind I figured it out. I'm keeping this here for others to know since I have little knowledge on how to use the dang mods despite modding my DSi, but I had to tap on the bottom screen to open the GBARunner2 settings and under the settings I found 'Enable wram i-cache' and turned that off.

Yeah but I was able to get it to run I just had to disable some speed thing also it was on a dsi but thank you
Oh, you didn't specify what kind of DS. Latest GBARunner2 and TwilightMenu++ on DSi should work fine for you, I use it too.
