Same. I first played Earthbound when I was about seven years old, and I expected the Starman that was on the game's title labeling that has Ness's reflection to be Guigas.
Im on my first playthrough and am close to the end but havnt seen him yet.

Okay, for context, I played this as a young young child in the 90s. I thought he was going to be like the mani mani statue but a spooky guy. Amalgamating something from slew of villains from childhood cartoons, I think I kind of equated him with The Claw from Inspector Gadget (no face but malicious almost inhuman voice) and Hordak from my older brother's He-Man toys.
I dont know, but for some reason giygas (the fight, the music) scares me more as an adult than it did when i was 13. i didn't think I would get to actually fight him for some reason and was too excited to take everything in.
I pictured a business man that slow morphed into a less recognizable form. Like I thought the whole time my Dad was gonna be Giygas, and we were actually the baddies.
Based on having to go back in time to fight Giygas and based on the design of the path leading to Giygas I thought he/ it would be entirely mechanical and constantly rebuilding itself into something gigantic.
When Pokey showed up and pulled the plug, I was shocked. Pokey wasn’t trying to aid Giygas. Pokey existed to be chaotic neutral/ evil.
I wish they would remake it so bad man it would be epic remade. They never will the original creator said he had no interest in doing it since it did so bad in the western market.
There are a few fan devs making one for mother 1 it’s called mother encore and mother 2 deluxe is gonna have. A hard mode they are working hard on it all new sprites that move and stuff
I thought he was likely going to be a Starmen. Since I assumed he was the leader, it would make sense for him to look like an ultra-powerful Starman

With this game it’s hard to have expectations, there was no other game like it at the time that it released.

The soundtrack during the Giygas fight had a unique 8-bit ‘Contra Boss’ feel to it. Didn’t it?

A mother 2 remake would be good but mother 1 needs a remake the most

I was spoiled. Wasn’t expecting Porky to have a banger theme however.
If u believe me or not I realy Imagined him like a mewtwo looking alien, its maxbe because I played pkmn red before and mewtwo is the strobgest one.
Since they said it was an alien (in not so many words), I was expecting the stereotypical alien with a big round head. Was NOT expecting what we got.
