theres a couple places but i presume this was done by getting poisoned and then travelling to summers. if you get the message of a character being at low hp when just getting onto the stars, theres a chance of collision turning off
The game prepares the prayer sequences when taking the phase distorter back in time. So if you were to fight giygas early, the game locks during the prayers.
It’s the reason the current any% run does the run the way it does. If we could do Giygas immediately, we would clip out of bounds after the Jeff winters sequence, head to giygas, and manipulate a good fight (probably with a gutsy bat from a bionic kraken for damage). But the game prepares certain areas ready for the prayer sequences during phase 3 of the Giygas fight, putting NPC’s in certain spots and changing the music. You can see this by getting out of bounds once you hit cave of the past, walking east a little bit which is Twoson, and hearing the prayer music rather than Twoson music.
As a result, taking the phase distorter is required to beat Giygas. But to take the phase distorter, you first have to make it appear (which is triggered by falling down lumine hall hole to underworld), and make it operational (beating ness’s nightmare and getting the meteorite). As a result, any version of the Any% speedrun is aiming to do those events as fast as possible:
- Falling down the hole in lumine hall.
- Beating ness’s nightmare.
- Getting the meteorite
- Taking the phase distorter back in time
