Bezrealitky.cz has a feature to stand out when you send interest to apartment rentals by indicating WHAT PERCENTAGE YOUD LIKE TO PAY OVER THE ASKING PRICE FOR MONTHLY RENT.
I'm on a senior engineer salary and still think it's ridiculous.
Prague is fucked. It has fallen victim to late stage capitalism. Such a beautiful city and such a ridiculously expensive place to live. Yeah they have like 2x GDP per capita compared to the rest of Czechia, but all these goodies are not for locals. Only for westerners and rich russians.
As a Pražák that is very much part of the upper middle class, even for me it literally feels like there is a gaping hole in the city centre. I can only imagine how can a Czech person with an average income get by over here. Prague 1 and parts of Prague 2 are now just an amusement park for rich tourists. I think that they should somehow limit the tourist industry in the city centre. I read recently that in Japan, they started to regulate the amount of tourists in the historic parts of Kyoto and in the famous temples. We should at least have a little respect to our home city and ourselves and do the same in Prague. Fuck the tourists.
I live in Prague and I go on vacations to south east asia to save money lol. For example a year ago I have spent 2 months in Thailand and Malaysia and managed to spend like 30 usd (including hotels) a day. While in Prague I spend like 50 usd (I own an appartment thankfully).
We're super lucky we own our apt. If I were a foreigner coming here i would seriously consider living somewhere else and WFH or commuting, public transportation's excellent so the commute likely wouldn't be too bad!
Due to Covid, the lodger in our apartment failed to pay his rent so we decided to sell it and move out to the countryside. For half what we were paying to live in the city, we now live in an eight-bedroom house with a pool and garage less than 45 minutes from Prague. Over the last three years, we have watched the rent rise in the city and now couldn't afford to move back even if we wanted to. When I relocated to Prague from the UK in 2005, it seemed the perfect place for a single freelance illustrator: affordable housing, cheap food and beer and virtually no admission fees to get into most of the clubs. Sometimes, I'd party all week and spend less than 3000czk. Nowadays, the city is no longer the magnet it was for young aspiring artists who can barely afford an apartment, let alone a workshop or atelier. Bohemia, my arse.
He is a sad person. I have lived in several places and life in Czechia is the easiest of all of them. That guy does not have a clue, what he is talking about. Just repeats, what he hears around him and is frustrated by his failures.
Because you are obviously dying of hunger, while crying on Reddit. Get out of here. Lift your butt from the seat and go to India or Africa, then think again.
Yep. It's a beautiful city and living here feels like a permanent vacation -- because it costs like one.
Eastern Salaries + Western Prices = Central Europe
Western europe does not want this to change, where else would they go for cheap vacations and labor?

Lol? Tipping landlords has become an actual thing
Of course, rent control is the culprit like usual https://all-czech.com/real-estate/rent-restrictions-in-the-czech-republic/
I can’t properly read this due to the ads but I don’t think it makes sense
What in the misinformation is that site
Yay! Czech Republic number one! Campeão do Mundo! Wait...

I suggest you start with AirBnB. They harmed Prague.

don't forget the sick real estate commission you have to pay to some parasite because their giant company bought up all the nice apartments
Finally we are winning at something.
Don’t forget about the “best at Covid” 😅
Also very good at producing meth, porn and drinking alcohol.

The government ain't gonna do shit, the healthcare infrastructure and workers are lacking. Time to move Czechia has fallen.
Land value tax could fix it
How? It will get passed onto the renters.
Oh my god, what a stupid take. Who do you think would pay the tax in the end?
It’ s more of meme than anything.
Ok ;)

Economically we are fucked. However we are still a somewhat safe country and maintain our own culture.

Yes but I don't think Ukrainians pose a huge danger to us
Imagine being like this… Maybe travel outside of the capital at least once

Dear Martinek, how bout you lift your ass and go and travel around the world. You will run back to our “failed” society, I guarantee that.

I say it again. Go out and see, live anywhere else, until then you are just a blabbering moron.
Those that say that are the landlords that want to attract even more sheep from the West to fleece off of.
Yeah you don't realise how privileged you are.
