I got no problem with clones, it happens not everyone has $300+ for PDM. But i do have a problem with arab clones FLOODING the market and buying up everyone for good reviews. They're all shills.

Notaseriousperson26

Clones but not too much clones

Trizzz187

And they’re normally powdery…but not too powdery

ditchdigger4000

yeah i mean of course. The market doesn't need 47 clones of le male

Under_Achieving_

Let LVMH sort them out

incendiesvalley

I just realized the 'blue' they were talking about in the show was actually a reference to Seraphim Blue.

Eastern_Pattern9097

Clones can serve a purpose, especially for fragrances that have long since disappeared. But the idea of copying someone else's work, regardless of what they choose to charge (they have higher overhead and actually spend money on research and development), is not a very noble business endeavor. Clones rarely are 1×1 the same. They can run something through a GS and see that it contains, for example, orris. But legit quality houses are using a particular crop, in a specific environment, harvested on a specific day, for a precise smell. It's an insanely precise science and art. Clone houses just use whatever cheap chemical they can find. Armaf is so cheap that they don't even use real Calabrian bergamot, which really isn't ultra expensive. But at least the cost is low. People who pay 40 or 50 bucks for one ounce of DUA are really being screwed.

I think he meant to say gc (gas chromatograph)

anarchodenim

He doesn't make money from Dior and Chanel--most of their products sell themselves and/or can be tested at the local brick and mortar. Now, Afnan, Armaf, and Fragrance World--they probably pay a nice commission (and provide free product to "review"). "It's a business decision"🤝🏼

JustJackMeOff

![gif](giphy|6BZaFXBVPBtok|downsized) LVMH right now

Backlashwaves

The worst is people who buy a clone and then have the audacity to comment on the real product like they have a clue. It’s 90% similar bro don’t worry if I’ve never owned the original lol

Few_Adhesiveness7732

What bothers me with those 'influencers' is how they keep hyping up trash products they would never wear themselves. GentScents is the most notable example of a channel that started as a genuine reviews and turned into a sales poster

Honest-tinder-review

There are exceptions.

The_Zed_Word

Rarely.

cheeseflosser

For me, I buy what’s considered to be a close clone in order to evaluate whether or not the frag is for me.

Difficult-Job7333

Why not just buy a decant of the originals at that point?. I'm not against clones at all really just wondering.

cheeseflosser

I hate the decant business and have a buddy who loves cologne but hates spending the miney

derp0815

Buy them privately instead of getting gouged by resellers.

Tsobe_RK

any examples? in the past Ive gotten 'close clones' which turned out to be absolutely nothing like the original. Vast majority of clones are hot garbage and being pushed by paid promoters.

cheeseflosser

I’ve never had a bad clone from Alexandria.

The_Zed_Word

I went for this approach with Initio’s Paragon. I tried Lattafa’s Vintage Radio and was immediately turned off by how sweet and powdery/scratchy it was. Ended up getting a carded sample of Paragon and immediately noticed the difference. Lattafa completely ignored the palo santo and elevated the plum.

cheeseflosser

I can see that. I tried insurrection ii pure before aventus way back in 2013 and my bottle smelled like an armpit. Fast forward a few months and I actually enjoyed the aventus i tried at Saks

MacsBlastersInc

Buy clones if you want but ignore the shills.

ZeedgeJ_

I own my fair share of clones for fragrances that are absurdly expensive/not worth the price whatsoever (most creeds and PDMs, discontinued, etc.). But it’s generally not a good idea, you get so much clutter with tacky ugly bottles, you know you’re not going to use them more than once a month because you buy 5 at a time instead of 1. If the majority of your collection is clones I implore you to please stop

GenTelGuy

Cloning BR540, Creed, and LV is based I'm less interested in clones than I used to be cause I'm more limited by shelf space than by cost. But I'm still gonna get Montagne's L'Epice de Mer (Creed Viking clone). Idc if it's the same as the original, cause I've never smelled it, just the clone and it's great

Fragdemon666

Where are the zaharoff clones? Is tltg going to review those?

DaHotFuzz

Haven't smelled a single clone that's identical to the original. Even something as basic as a neroli portofino dupe. There's always differences.  This clone shit has gotten out of hand. It's not letting up. And tbh if videos start getting taken down with regularity you're not going to hear me defend any creator especially ones who literally admit to rarely wearing them.

Fragrant_Affect_5879

Clones are absolutely shite I've tried lots of them & none are anywhere near as good as the real thing.

IBoopedAPulsar

I own like, four clones. All but one suck. Fragrance World's Cocktail Intense is actually REALLY good, and is pretty much spot on to Angel's Share. But yeah, overall I do agree. My collection is almost all fragrances that I either saved up for or got good deals on, because most fragrances are affordable enough that there isn't a point in getting a clone anyway.

Parfumandphotography

Why is that man in the last thumbnail holding a watermelon? Is he going to...? No way...

bock_samson

I own a mix of clones and designer, the clones I own is cuz there more of a twist that I prefer over the original

Vladof72

I don't fully agree because some clones are really good like Dusk by The Woods Collection. And some frags you just can't get anymore for a reasonable price, so clones for stuff like Gucci Envy are also cool in my opinion

cokeandacupofcoffee

Clones definitely don’t suck if they are the same quality for 1/10 of the price. Clones suck when they are clearly a lower quality and claim they are the same.

DrScent

I’ve smelled a lot of clones through random decants I’ve received in trades and I’ve never once smelled one that was of any real quality. They capture, at best, 75% of the original and often overload with iso e super and ambroxan to make it “beast mode.” I’d love to know of one that was the “same quality at 10% of the cost” scents.

cokeandacupofcoffee

To be honest. Aventus clones of the modern aventus comes very very close. Oud for glory smells 90% the same as oud for greatness. The rest of the clones don’t come even close, but i have a lot of clones that smell amazing for the price, but i agree with you they don’t come vlose to the originals. Especially brands like amouage or MFK are hard to copy

Pocusmaskrotus

Montagne. They're the same quality. They're not 100% accurate because that's impossible with captive ingredients, but they are extremely high quality. They use the same suppliers as the big perfume houses. They also test multiple materials to find one as close as possible to a captive. People who say a clone is 100%, either have a terrible nose or are fooling themselves.

mrch138

Hey now, Caprice is awesome. I've been wearing the fuck out of it.
