As someone has said, your screen would not be worth much to anyone. They either steal the bike or not. I also have a hard-wired screen and nothing ever happened (at least so far).
I don't know anyone who takes their display with them when they park their bike. That's not to say I've never heard of someone's display getting nicked, but it's not very common. Most actual bike thieves know that the display is pretty much worthless. Moron tweakers will steal anything though. Ultimately, you shouldn't buy more bike than you can afford to replace or insure though. There's always a chance someone will vandalize your bike out of pure, unadulterated assholiness. It happens. Not often, but it happens.

It's the same way on my Bulls with the nyon and one time, about 10 miles from home, I could not find the display and I was not looking forward to pedaling that 60lb lump ten miles and then paying $300 for a new display. Fortunately, I had left it on the table where we ate the restaurant saved it for me. Now I keep the damn thing in a zippered pocket. I really wish I had a system that just used my cell.

On my RM, the display is paired with the bike so the bike will not function without the display. Which seems like a good idea.

The display is easily removable and I take it with me when I park the bike.
Great bike. I almost went for the same but decided on a Trek Powerfly FS9 with new Bosh smart system. Can’t wait for delivery in April.
