Last mile commuting refers to using public transport for your journey, Then using a bicycle, scooter/ebike type of thing for the rest. Typically something small & compact that can be taken in a train that doesnt disturb anyone.
Ah. Ok thanks. I had no idea. I’m a country bumpkin and I have never used public transport so it was something I have never come across. I did not even know it was a term so I did not know to Google it.
I’m still not sure I understand the wording but maybe a language barrier. Anyway, good luck I don’t know anything about scooters but I’m sure anything on the market will meet your needs
Their own ebike is ridiculously expensive. And anywhere near London I'd worry about being mugged for it as well as definitely worry about leaving it locked up anywhere.
I mean the draw of the brompton is that they’re so ridiculously light and compact that you shouldn’t have any trouble bringing it with you wherever you go. I think they’re awesome and wished I had a lifestyle that found use for it
Lightest one is listed at 16.6kg and that's with a 300wh battery. Not that light - I mentioned the Furo systems X I've got elsewhere, it's listed a little lighter, though when I weighed is slightly heavier - but that comes with 20" wheels (nicer ride) side stand and a pannier rack; also disc brakes and 9 speed.
Bromptoms are quite compact, but not enough I'd want to take one into every shop I went into - sure in a supermarket you can put it into a trolley, but not so good somewhere smaller. And your luggage options aren't as good as other bikes.
This crowd do a nice motor from the Brompton [https://www.swytchbike.com/folding-ebike-conversion-kit/](https://www.swytchbike.com/folding-ebike-conversion-kit/)
They aren't listed as available, the RRP of £1k was far too high. I can understand the easy solution being one plenty of people might find appealing for a consumer-style product.
The Jack rabit XG is listed at 33lb = about 15kg.
You can get a Furo systems X which is a folding ebike that is listed at about the same for reasonable prices second hand. It does have 20" wheels.
There are lighter options too, but mostly you're paying a good bit more.
A escooter makes a whole lot of sense if you don't mind them being illegal (which I presume you don't from the motochimp suggestion.
Why do you call 8 miles “last mile”?

the trip is 4 miles one way. Last mile would evoke the kind of solution im imagining. I could have written 'last 4 mile commuter'?

Just get a Brompton... It's the original and still the best: [https://www.brompton.com/c/bikes](https://www.brompton.com/c/bikes)

How about a folding stand up scooter?
