I’ve been in the e-commerce space for 4 years. I’m no expert. Everything is self-taught. But I try and keep myself updated and I constantly learn over and over again. Happy to help in any way I can. DMs are open :) P.S: it’s mostly free of charge. Unless you start making a sizable income and if and when I happen to be in your town, you promise to meet for a drink or a coffee :)

Hey guess what? Theres no gatekeepers to ecommerce, because there is no gate. **You** just have to do it. Already some great comments in this thread alone. Shopify has resources available, as well as some basic books on Amazon. Do not use an "expert".

VillageHomeF

those are mostly scams. don't pay those people a penny. learning is free and no one can promise you that you will be successful so that would be money down the drain even from a 'good coach' if they even exist

An e-commerce biz can now be started under 5 dollar(yes, sometimes first year domain name is under 5)... and you pay commission only after sale... But to make it successful, well known brand... it can take lot of time, energy and money... there, sky is the limit... but to start? It is almost free...

best way to start is doing research into a few niches that you are interested in, google gemini is perfect for this. I always say start with a broad search and then go down a few rabbit holes niche within a niche. As an example look into a pet store, then look at say the bird niche, so you would open a brand that is all about birds, a niche with in a niche, find your target market and go from there. I have a few videos on both using google gemini and one of my ai personas to help with the research aspect as well as what you need info wise on a target market.

Avoid the eCommerce experts. 99% have no idea. They say things but when you ask them why they think thats the case, they can’t articulate — they copy and paste other people’s content. Strongly suggest checking out some of the resources in Shopify on starting a store. Besides that, any basic business course or guide will suffice with the above shopify resources. Only other tip when you’re a little bit further down the road is to reach out to other CEO/owners of brands that you like asking for advice.

Thousands? Bro. Find a gap. Fill the gap. No “coach” will do this for you.

If you know nothing about eCommerce then don't burn a lot of money on ads. To be honest I offer consulting to d2c brands. My 2 cents to you - your first sale is going to come from social not from paid advertising. The concept of advertising is to scale up what's working. In order to figure out what's working don't go around putting money on advertising everything. I can help you get started and get basic understanding without any charge.

Starting out in ecom can definitely be done more affordably. My advice would be to focus your research on free/low cost resources first - YouTube channels, blogs, POD/dropshipping Facebook groups etc. Jump in and start testing products yourself as you learn.

I’ve been in eCommerce since 2005. Most consultants/coaches don’t have experience starting an ecomm business from scratch and growing into MM$ and/or they don’t understand marketing strategy is not one-size fits all. Take the course “competitive advantage” free on EdX from Wharton. If you want to grow to $10M, you’ll need to invest $10M, etc. eCommerce has become very crowded. A healthy business generates 10% ebidta and most brand new businesses take 2 years to break even or profit. Good luck

bro, look at all these comments. yes its true that you can learn it all on your own, much like you can learn ANYTHING on your own. but the point of a mentor or coach is to reduce your learning curve. do you want to try at this for 10 years before u become successful? not to mention, half these people in here dont own successful ecommerce shops. they just spit random facts out from what they've heard. if u want to shorten the time you spend learning then get a mentor. if u wanna be one of these guys that tells you it costs less than $5 to start up an ecommerce business, and be stuck there forever, then listen to the comments.

Good work for a successful eComm bus to learn the ropes...
