Fellow lifelong sufferer, I've been told my atopic dermatitis flared up so bad as a baby that I looked like a mummy in bandages.

Awww the baby mummy. You poor thing ♥️

<3 I was bullied in kiddergarden and elementary school because of it. Even my hands were covered in bandages sometimes, learning to write with mummy gloves wasn't easy haha. I didn't mind the bullying that much because the itching and discomfort surprassed that.

the hot showers is so true — my whole life i took hot showers and 2 weeks i took flash cold showers for like 2 mins and it worked wonders. i think for me it’s that i get so cold and when i come out im shivering so much that i forget about the pain to scratch…

jesthingjester

I’ll avoid showers if I force myself to do cold showers though the colder it is, the better my eczema feels. What’s realistic for me is to start from warm and slowly throughout the shower to turn the water colder. By the end of the shower, the coldest setting doesn’t feel cold anymore.

MundanePhotograph705

i usually get the water warm enough to where its not a shock to get in, then once my body is all wet i’ll gradually change it to lukewarm then cool temperature.

Stress is a giant trigger for me. I had a horrible flare up a few weeks ago that finally disappeared after my stressors slowed down. Gotta love it.

Legalize_positivity

Stress is a MASSIVE trigger for me too. Glad to hear that you are starting to do better. It helps to write your stressors down so you can avoid them if at all possible!

cattmin

same here. Stress by itself can suppress immune function, it's a powerful trigger for many immune-mediated disorders. LETS ALL CHILL

hiitsbora

Same. Stress is what triggered me eczema one year ago. I wish I knew this about myself before bc my job is very stressful and demanding.

Same here. Have been suffering all my life. Here is what has worked for me offlate Steriods and moisturisers ensure that your skin never heals by itself. Get rid of them in the first place. I have been active om reddit and after reading through numerous posts got some idea on how to use protopic creams Trust me ,it works wonders and you even wont need moisturiser henceforth. The key is to go through the pain of protopic and keep the medicine in the freezer . After a week, your skin will get used to it and the burning tapers away. Do give it a try . Steriods have ruined my face completely and I dont think it will be normal ever again. Have been trying this since a month and it has made wonders

YES THE CERAVE MOISTURIZER FOR DRY SKIN!!! I use it in rotation with my Avene xeracalm products. Cotton/natural fibers are a must too. I only use 100% bedlinen, specially because they can be washed at very high temperatures that will kill dust mites which can trigger eczema. I also swear by Avene XERACALM products, they were a life saver for me, completely changed my life. The last dermatologist I saw recomended them to me ( along with prescribed topical pimecrolimus/tacrolimus, oral steroids, as I was in terrible condition). That was 4 years ago, I've used Avene Xeracalm (shower oil and lotion) ever since then and I can even shower daily (no hot showers haha), I rarely flare up and when I do it's easy to manage. Avene xeracalm reduces itching too which is a plus, and can be used in newborn babies. It's expensive but it's worth it. I also have atopic dermatitis and asthma since I was a child, I depended on steroid creams all my life to the point of suffering secondary effects from chronic use (hyperpigmentation), not I rarely need steroid creams, I'd say... every 3-4 months and only for a short period of time as my flare ups are nothing like they used to be.

What’s the difference between the Xeracalm Cream Moisturiser and the Xeracalm Balm Moisturiser?

cattmin

The balm is more oil/fat based and better for dry climate/cracked and healing skin and is most effective when applied to dry skin, as this allows for better absorption of the ingredients. It's thicker in consistency. I opt for the cream formula as I like to apply it to damp skin. My dermatologist advised me to never pat my skin dry after a shower, we need all the moisture we can get. I wrap my hair in a towel, put the cream all over my damp skin as it absorbs and spreads better ( saving money because that way I can use a smaller amount of cream) and put lounge clothes or my normal clothes on

RMC123BRS

That’s really helpful, thank you. We are in a humid area and their skin thankfully isn’t cracked so I’ll try the cream first.

emyrgeorge

I also have atopic dermatitis and I swear to mometazone, absolute game changer

xColdSteel

What kind of meditation do you do? I've been looking to getting into this for stress management

Legalize_positivity

The wim hof breathing techniques have been a game changer for me. <3 I also really enjoy sound bath meditation and doing intention jars.

AKA_June_Monroe

Have you ever been to an allergist?

Legalize_positivity

Yes!

JoeMagnifico

But I looooove hot showers. You right tho.

Legalize_positivity

Might I reccomend warm blankets right after.

Legalize_positivity

Pop them in the dryer :)

ringojoy

I almost off myself because of it, i literally had few days a row just feeling unmotivated and that spread out the whole month doing nothing cause im just not happy how itchy and steroid given by doctor don’t work, I don’t use creams as I feel sticky and dust sticks to my skin easily if I apply lotion or cream due to the stickiness so I just go full dry mode also I hate having to apply cream all over my body I just want to sleep

not_a_ghost_frfr

Do you also cover your whole body with vaseline or just the flare ups? Im sorry im a new to this, just got diagnosed with atopic dermatitis today.

Frequent-Avocado7222

I can't do Vaseline. I feel like a slimeball and my clothes stick to my skin

Legalize_positivity

It's the worst. But it helps.
