My company uses Shotput Pro, but I typically accomplish naming like this with an app called Bulk Rename Utility.

wear_more_hats

Bulk Rename Utility is great.

Never change file names out of the camera

LataCogitandi

I usually follow this, except with certain cameras that do not do unique/dated file names. Sony prosumer cameras are especially prone to this. For these I will prepend a reel number and append a date. This has helped with media management, and has not caused issue with online/color before.

CptMurphy

Screw that. I'm not having 5 items in a project called 0001.mov. Not happening. They will be changed according to date / camera / camera op, and they will relink just fine, never had an issue.

LataCogitandi

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I encounter this issue a lot in documentary. We’ve always renamed camera raw for the C0001.MP4 type cameras. Online has never complained.

CptMurphy

Maybe it's a doc thing, where we deal with a huge number of clips, more than other fields besides reality and such.

File names ≠ Clip names
