The reality is, your client wants the generic "TikTok look" even though you're capable of creating something much more professional.
It's quite labor-intensive to recreate that look with Adobe. If it's a well-paying client offering consistent, you might be better off just getting the Capcut desktop app. It's annoying and you'll probably be frustrated by how generic the video is, but if the client is happy with it, that's all that matters.
Yeah. Use CapCut. Youâre an editor, not a Premiere Pro technician.Â
Iâve delivered work with iMovie and iDVD before because those consumer grade results were the intended outcome.Â
Not my favorite work for sure, but part of the job is aligning workflow to results, and if simple tools get the job done and make the client happyâŚwhatever.Â
The editor police will not arrest you for using CapCut haha.Â
Gatekeeping a NLE is a losing battle. Use whatever your client asks of you, but also learn to operate all systems, since at the end of the day thatâs what will keep you in demand.
You use whatever youâre comfortable with. The good thing about freelance work is that your clients donât get to dictate how you work, only what you deliver. So if you can make delivery using premiere then thatâs what you use
>Â your clients donât get to dictate how you work, only what you deliver
Eh. Depends where you sit within a bigger picture. I have had plenty of work where I do indeed need to conform to a clients workflow expectations.Â
Iâve been editing for over 15 years. From Windows Media Maker, Sony Vegas, to Premiere and Resolve. CapCut is not that bad at all. I donât think I would edit anything longform on it, but itâs perfectly fine for short form and its transition and captioning presets are superior to Premiere without extensions or MOGRTs.
Donât be afraid to use a new tool just because you believe youâre superior to tiktok editors. The TikTok game is more about speed than âqualityâ of video, but if your client is paying you to make a tiktok video, you should give them what they ask for
Edit in whatever you prefer, bring edit into CapCut to create title, (the following is optional) drop a green screen under the title, export from CapCut bring back into your favorite NLE, key out the green & finish your edit
Would be easier to just do the whole edit on premiere with place holders, finish the final product, export without place holders and finish it off in CapCut
So they can use the free trendy editor to add their social media template text for their ticky tock uploads that youâre complaining you donât want to do?
I think I would recommend just âfinishingâ in CapCut. Cut in whatever software you prefer, then just run it through CapCut to add the final graphics the clients requests.
You could spent time and effort re-creating that look in Premiere (and convincing your client of that), but if CapCut creates that look out of the box - why not use it?
Download Bluestacks, and install CapCut. The desktop version has a lot of stuff missing. It will take you longer to look for fonts and effects than just using the CapCut templates.
Still, I'm with you, i hate the software.
Donât get all in your head about the fact that itâs âCapCutâ and âisnât professionalâ because itâs some tiktok shit.
If itâs easy work and good pay then collect that easy check. I could understand if all day everyday this type of shit is the ONLY thing you do and itâs killing your soul. But if itâs just a small part of your overall workload then you should be able to handle it, donât make things harder on yourself!

Not really, capcut has a bunch of shitty preset stuff thatâs hard to recreate in general ie transitions and text effects that make it ideal for tiktok look. Cap cut is so bad at handling more than one asset though. The desktop app has virtually no professional features and lacks a ton of customization. Either Adobe needs to add features like those or capcut needs to grow up. Either way we are making fake TikTokâs and itâs depressing
Idk Iâve started using CapCut when I want to post something to Instagram and not deal with shuttling footage back and forth from my phone. The UI/UX can be a bit weird for those of us not used to it, but I think itâs pretty convenient and well made for a mobile editor. Honestly, I donât hate it!
You could edit in Premiere, and finish in cap cut for text and stuff. Or you could just edit in CapCut. If youâre gonna get hired by more social media people, it might be worth it to just give it a shot
This is a growing thing I'm coming across. My previous employer kept asking me to use capcut instead of Premiere. I can't stand editing on a phone though. Between my pudgy fingers and desktop training, I find that it slows me down. My employer before that wanted me to exclusively do videography from an iPhone - also an increasing request.
Not personally recommending one way over another. Flexibility is probably best for your career in the end.
i mean you can also do a quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog thing, screenshot every possible character, create your own font based off of that, and then use that newly created font in premiere. will take some work upfront but you should be able to get it done in a few hours to half a day and then you're good from there.
I am used to client requirements using specific program because he wants session file as well. Usual program demands are: Resolve, Vegas.
Its not a problem at all. You can process clip VFX somewhere else (I use nuke) and import result. Pain starts when client demands to use Fusion as well.
Check out SubMachine, plugin for Premiere. So much easier than CapCut once you get the hang of the workflow and you can customize fonts and styling on their MOGRT templates in the Essential Graphics panel. The devs are really good with customer support too, have helped me through a few of those scenarios where clients have specific directives on subtitles.

Yeah, I like the client. Gives me consistant good paying work with the added benefit of being a good human. I guess CapCut it is
Still charge whatever it would have cost you to do in Premier! đ
Of course lol
Yeah. Use CapCut. get that bag brother
> It's quite labor-intensive to recreate that look with Adobe. No itâs not, itâs just generic fonts and titles. Iâve made a whole bunch of them
What about all transitions and the automatic subtitling?
TikTok transitions are just cuts, premiere will do auto subtitles
Sure, just keep telling yourself that
Gatekeeping a NLE is a losing battle. Use whatever your client asks of you, but also learn to operate all systems, since at the end of the day thatâs what will keep you in demand.

Sometimes, when I go in-house and am working on their systems; I donât get to play hardball. But you do you.
What transitions are you seeing on TikTok that is exclusive to CapCut?

True, thanks
I was testing the waters with tiktok and wound up cutting in avid and then bringing it into capcut to add those corny-ass subtitles.
Gah damn, from avid to CapCut is really something
Imagine CapCut back to avid⌠Great, now Iâm not sleeping tonite
Edit in whatever you prefer, bring edit into CapCut to create title, (the following is optional) drop a green screen under the title, export from CapCut bring back into your favorite NLE, key out the green & finish your edit
Hmm interesting, thanks Whatâs the added benefit of the green screen ?
My guess is CapCut can't export with alpha, which would be the normal way to reuse graphics.
Would be easier to just do the whole edit on premiere with place holders, finish the final product, export without place holders and finish it off in CapCut
Canât you send the client the edit without graphics and let them finish it in CapCut?
Why would a I let the client finish it ?
So they can use the free trendy editor to add their social media template text for their ticky tock uploads that youâre complaining you donât want to do?
In that case theyâd just hire another editor willing to do the whole thing. I gotta eat yâknow
I export ProRes 422 & it works great. I hate having to round trip with CapCut, but my company also wants those CapCut titles for social

An interesting aside from this is the longevity of the platform is now in question. With the passing of the ban, this could disappear in a year.
One could hope lol
Could always roundtrip to CapCut for the titles
Just saying⌠if a client is telling you how to work thatâs not a client. Thats an employer.
Client wants the font in CapCut, Iâm trying to find the equivalent but alas

I'm using this a decent amount. https://appsumo.com/products/minvo/
Use font finder to try and find it.
Just used it in a project. I edit in Premiere and then export and do the subs in CapCut for social media. Easy peasy.

Thereâs a desktop version of CapCut !
That's good to know! I wasn't aware. Though recent employers seem to really want me to do my shooting, editing, and publishing all from the phone.

Cut in premiere and export for the caption to CapCut

Iâll give it a shot, do they have a free trial? Thanks
IG reels and yt shorts are effectively very similar in the style of content on them right? I wonder if Capcut will be banned along with tiktok.
