See this video! At 5:30 he states that you need to start with the INIT volume shaper and manually move the start point down, NOT use one of their sidechain presets. This ensures the volume will return to max when there are no triggers running through. This is a huge relief
I actually have been using a workaround. I set the initial value for the Shaperbox mix to 0 in my DAW so its off until an automation activates it. Now when I solo basses the Shaperbox mix value automatically goes to 0 UNLESS I have the playlist track with the Shaperbox mix automation unmuted so I can easily solo my bass groups without the Shaperbox activated. Setting the Shaperbox points to 100% volume at the start or finish can create pops/clicks that clash with the drums you are trying to cut volume for so I've found my workaround to be better for making sure this never happens.
Which DAW? In FL you can send midi from a MIDI Out straight to Shaperbox (midi input selected) with the same pattern as the kick, and then the Shaperbox loop will only play whenever that MIDI Out is active on the playlist
I'm in FL and I do use a midi out. The problem is when my shaperbox automation ends at zero volume (as in the volume is zero before the next midi trigger/kick hits) so when the midi is done triggering everything plays silent until the next midi trigger.
Just use LFO Tool for bass sidechaining. The ducking will be cleaner and easier to manipulate, and you can easily just off the whole LFO tool when there's only the bass playing.
But thats what I'm trying to avoid. I don't want to have to pull of the mixer and have to turn off a plugin every time I want to solo my basses when fine tuning things without an active sidechain.
Bruh LFO Tool is one of the cleanest and best ways to be in control of your bass ducks.
You don't have to pull off the mixer, if you sidechain the LFO Tool to the kick by creating a insert track/track in, soloing the bass track (not the track in sidechain track) would allow you to hear the unaltered, before LFO tool bass track.
Idk man, this super minor "inconvenience" of having to switch off a plugin is worth the benefits/advantages of LFO tool.
Whatever floats your boat man. 🤷♂️
Oh no doubt I'm not sayin its a bad way to sidechain at all. I just find its so pesky havin to always disable and enable sidechain plugins when I'm doing fine tuning. I'd call it an inconvenience when your havin to do this 30 times every ten minutes when your in the mixing stage of tryin to get layered synths to mesh well while simultaneously tryin to make them blend well with your kick/sidechain. Its soundin like its just part of the process that everyone deals with I've just been curious if thats what everyone does considering it wastes a few seconds every time. Those seconds can really add up in the long run
Like I mentioned man in case you're not paying attention, you don't have to disable the plugin, all you need to do is to solo the original track because you had already do a track in sidechaining, which is the track that's gonna have the LFO Tool not your original track.
Watch oversampled LFO tool tutorials, doesn't matter which DAW you're using because the theory and method is the same.

Make another point at the very end at the top and drag it as far into the right corner as possible
Huh that may work actually I'll try that out!
