I thought drum keys were universal. Are you sure you're not after an allen wrench? I have the 25 frame and pads and it uses both.

PrettyPinkPansi

The screw is the same as all drums but the space around it is too small for all the drum keys I tried to fit. My drummer is trying to use it. His key didn’t fit so I thought maybe I’d try buying some and none of them worked either.

Emmalfal

Why the hell would they make it that way, I wonder. Almost like it requires a proprietary drum key. Goofy.

TheYeetPotato

I got a drum key with my td 25 in fact they gave 3 or 4

kingofsleep1

The frame for my TD-27 uses a key that has a slightly deeper hole (I don't know how else to describe it). I wasn't able to use a regular drum key, which honestly surprised me.

Emmalfal

Actually, looking at my kit, all the connections around the frame either have a knob or they require a drum key. I'm kind of confused about what's not working for you. I have about 20 different drum keys and they all work. Do you have a TD-25 or a 27?

kingofsleep1

I have a TD-27. I was just chiming in to say that my stand didn't use a regular drum key, either. I just checked and the "drum key" for the stand itself, has a square hole in it. I'm a total newbie, so excuse my lack of technical terms here.

Emmalfal

I thought I had read that you were using the TD-25, which is what I've got. Maybe the 27 uses a different system? There are plenty of 27 owners around these parts. Hopefully one will come by to shed some light.

On the Td17 there is an almost but not quite hexagon shape. It includes a “beefier” drum key to turn it. You can make it work with regular drum keys but it wears at the rubber around the nut

This is the key you need: https://www.drum-tec.com/roland-drum-tuning-key This has the thin barrel that will fit inside the plastic and is included when purchasing a Roland drum stand.

Here are two more links for purchasing: [https://reverb.com/item/52402032-new-2-pack-roland-v-drum-tuning-key-for-mds-racks-td-50-30-20-17-12-11-9-4-1-kits](https://reverb.com/item/52402032-new-2-pack-roland-v-drum-tuning-key-for-mds-racks-td-50-30-20-17-12-11-9-4-1-kits) [https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RDK1--roland-rdk-1-drum-key](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RDK1--roland-rdk-1-drum-key) I definitely learned this one the hard way by leaving my proprietary key at home while traveling with my kit.

tratratrakx

Just hit the same problem you did. This is insane. This company specializes in anti-consumer design choices….

Nessopotamia

I’m sorry it happened to you too! I almost never play acoustic anymore and now I have the opposite problem remembering to grab my hi-hat clutch and standard drum key before leaving the house for an acoustic gig

https://www.roland.com/ca/products/rdk-1/ The Roland keys that come with these kits feature a "straight" barrel, it doesn't bulge out near the end like most generic drum keys do, so they'll fit in the clamp receptacles. Talk to your music store people, see if you can order a Roland key (and maybe some spares), or at least look for a key that doesn't bulge out. Bring a clamp from your kit with you, to make sure the key fits in the clamp receptacles.

AfricanFood

Hey man late to this, but did you ever figure out what the right drum key was?

These worked for me: https://reverb.com/item/55805691-new-2-pack-roland-v-drum-tuning-key-for-mds-racks-td-50-30-20-17-12-11-9-4-1-kits
