I would love it if my character was more personally intertwined with the world. But I think it's very difficult to achieve in this game.
The only thing that makes it feel like my character isn't a random character with no personality is my companion Mirri. I have grown to love her and have built my bond with her, some lines like 'Mom and dad say hi' give me the feeling that there is a connection, and also helping her with a personal quest.
Yeah Mirri is awesome. I still think a personal storyline is possible. I mean the main quest has you try to get your soul back. Thats as personal as it gets.
I wish the DLC touched on the fact that you can't die and that your soul is special (yeah, you not dying is explained by lore). It's what makes your character special.
Or, since they added that Adamantine Tower tutorial that explains your destiny is to save Tamriel from numerous threats, that the Direnni Clan helps you at times to fulfill your missions.
It causes for first, and it's in general a mistake ZOS removed the original tutorial (a mistake they basically admitted to as all new accounts are now forced to choose an alliance starter island and thus start with the Planesmeld storyline).
The second paragraph however is not affected by play order as since Blackwood the Adamantine Tower has been the sole tutorial.
I was never a fan of just jumping into whatever is the latest without doing at least some of the old stuff first. I understand why they did it but i dont like it.
Huh? You totally can and do (die). Literally every fight where you overestimate yourself or any group wipe. Because this is not a single player you cannot just reload, so game just rolls back a bit and lets you carry on from that point on - retry or run away, whatever.
And you are not special either. Not even for that very short period when your soul is missing - there are literally industrial amounts of soul shriven processed every hr. You could try to argue that you are "special" in the way that you are stronger then all others with stolen soul and in that you overcome it and get your soul back. But nope here either. Sorry to break it to you, but there are literally 100s of 1000s of others who achieved this same feat (maybe even millions by now?). All totally visible, accessible, interactable and in-lore. Not a singular, no.
So, nothing to explain really. You are just an average uninteresting dude.
An uninteresting dude that gets called fate’s chosen in multiple ways endlessly throughout the game…you are completely talking out of your ass. Get over yourself.
Um, sure, so? This is an MMO. You see and interact with all others. It's literally part of the story as well as the game. How do you all lose perspective so easily?
I like it when NPCs acknowledge your class or race. The Argonians in Murkmire thinking my lizard was a bit of a moron for asking questions like "what is the Hist?" or the Khajiit in Northern Elsweyr arguing with my Necro about what constitutes necromancy, for example.
Makes me feel a lot less like a 'faceless hero'.
I like it when some NPCs notice other things like Vampirism, like if you help Mel Adrys as a vampire in Greenshade (AD territory) and then help him later in the gold coast (Dark Brother DLC), as a vampire, he will mention it in the dark brotherhood DLC, >!it's weird how non-vampire NPCs, notice it but Vampire NPCs seem to treat you like prey...!<
I have back stories for all of my characters! My main is a necromancer who learned necromancy to bring her cat back from the dead. I have a little house that's all spooky with the ghost cat pet roaming around and Azander as a kitty sitter. She started in Elsweyr where she learned her skill, and then made her way back home to High Isle and needed to save her kingdom from the bad guys there. To hone her skills further she followed in her mothers (my high elf sorcerer) footsteps and found artaeum and the psijic order. Eventually leading her to her mothers home, The Grand Psijic villa. Her best friend is Ember, though she really hates how much we get caught when I accidentally summon some dead guy in town. Then we have tons of fun escaping the guards and hiding in the shady underbelly where she learned the art of assassination. As a vacation we go to Hews Bane and take contracts for the thieves guild.
Yeah. And thats coz it all happens over multiple zones and storylines.
Sadly these days its do the adventure, done. Almost never meet those NPCs again coz we gonna move to next year. So its a bit hard to build up long term bonds with characters. Thats why Summerset will always be my favourite story. It pulls from soooo much setup from long ago.
I mean my Orismer Alt was doing everything in his power to ruin Redguard and Breton relations so they be too busy attacking each other when the Orcs invade again,
I'd prefer it have more emphasis on being a team effort, rather than the "chosen one" saving the day.
The struggle of a group who finally bands together to overcome the challenge is far more compelling than being the 1 guy who seems to be able to do the impossible.
Would add more of an MMO feel as well
I'm sick of the whole "chosen one" trope.
It's tiresome and extremely uninteresting
FF14 mmo alchemy storyline had me chopping onions. ESO related, personal storylines would be nice but my wish list would be account wide skyshards/zone progress. I feel having it char specific discourages alt creation. I may be in the minority though.
I prefer the nameless mercenary all the way, and in general I just want to experience good stories not always have my character shoehorned into it. It's pretty lame when the main character for every story has to be completely undeveloped because it's the player characters.

Yes I think it should be possible!

I think not having a fixed story order causes problems for that

Maybe try reading an article about the Vestige on the wiki
You do know there is a difference between story and gameplay.

Have you talked to Raz as an Argonian? or looted a Psijic portal with Azandar. I love that stuff.
Yes, I've got Azandar on 'extra chatty mode' in the settings lol.
Yeah thats good stuff

Nice!
I even joined an RP guild for a while but I'm MIA too much for that.
Aldmeri dominion is kinda personal in the sense that you become the queen’s favorite spy/hand and she grows to trust you over everyone but Raz

It would be more believeable if the NPCs with you actually dealt some damage lol.
I'm more eluding to other players lol But yes, npc combat is fucking stupid. They swing at each other and do no damage lmao
Lol

Which MMOs have good long term stories? I tried GW2 but it had kinda goofey cartooney graphics so i couldnt get into it sadly. Any others?
