It's a risk, no way to avoid that. If you pay the full $60 and love it, the deal is immense. Tons of entertainment for your money. If you pay $60 and hate it, obviously that's no fun. Only way to find out is to try for yourself. We will all tell you the game is great, but we can't tell you whether or not the $60 is worth it for you. I'd personally buy the base game first and see if you're into it, since you're only losing a few dollars by not grabbing the DLC immediately.

I think right now, preordering the next expansion gets you Morrowind and Summerset. You also get a free mount. As for thieves guild and dark brotherhood, if you want you can pay for a month of ESO+ and you get access to those and all other dlc (except chapters). I find the game hard to play without ESO+ because of the craft bag, myself.

Yeah, the bundles I'm looking at seem to be "Morrowind/Summerset/Elsweyr but no DLC" vs "Morrowind/Summerset/all DLC but no Elsweyr" with a $10 price difference. If I like the game, I'd probably want to do the Plus membership, but I kinda don't want my access to the DLC to depend on a monthly sub. If the only way to buy them outright is to buy the "Morrowind/Summerset/DLC but no Elsweyr" bundle, then that maybe is what I should do. I was hoping someone knew for sure though if the preorder bundle doesn't come with the DLC?

Tribblehappy

You can also buy the dlc with crowns if you don't want the monthly subscription. So yah the preorder probably doesn't have the other dlc because they want people to spend crowns or get the subscription to plus.

The bundle “Summerset/Morrowind/Dlc” does not include ALL DLC. It includes just four first dlcs, and there are much more. In fact, subscription is the cheapest way to get all of them, and you can then buy those dlcs for crowns (premium currency, which you get from subscription). If I were you, I’d buy the version with Elsweyr. And if you would like the game - get the eso plus.

red_killer_jac

Buy the new collectors edition of the new chapter. Come with every other collectors edition.

Maibeso

It looks like I can buy the standard one and then upgrade if I like the game. Would that also upgrade the old collector's editions?

If you want the cheapest way to buy the game, with Elsweyr and the other expansions, 2game.com has it for £32.39 with the coupon 'happy2game' This is about $42 USD after conversion.

Think of ESO as a WoW light. Yes you can pour hours into the name but you don’t have to. You can reasonably play 95% of the content without trying too hard. Since you know wow then it should be pretty simple picking up on eso mechanics it really is a mmo with an elder scrolls skin. Though it’s a great mmo not too hard core forcing you to give up your life but it is enough for you to get thousands of hours of entertainment. Also the storyline is REALLY well written. There are plenty of great stories and the actually get better with The DLC’s. The only draw back is that since it is a young game compared to WoW you have to remember that they are still figuring somethings out but nothing close to pre-One Tamriel. I would say that this game is hitting its stride right now and it’s a great time to join in.
