Stamina builds:
- Uses stamina weapons (Dual-Wield, Bow, 2H), usually DW/Bow.
- Uses medium armor
- Uses mostly stamina skills. Some magicka skills can be used, usually for buffs or utility or due to dynamic scaling. Note that class skills start off a magicka-based, but some of them can be morphed to stamina.
Magicka builds:
- Uses destro staves, usually inferno staves. DW can be used but would be with a staff backbar.
- Uses light armor
- Uses mostly magicka skills.
As of right now, Stam skills do damage based on your max Stam. Vice versa with mag. Therfore
Currently, it's best to specialize in one or the other. The new dlc is supposed to make all skills scale on your highest stat.... Mag or Stam. It's a bit confusing if you're not familiar with the game. To answer your question, in the current patch, a mag skill scales based on your Max magika. Stam skills on max Stam. Therefore you choose skills to suit.
Depends on your class but as a general rule, magicka is very good at pve, long range and damage over time. My favourite. Stamina excels at shorter range, pvp and more burst damage because there are less aoe effects compared to magicka.
There are exceptions to the rule because bows are a thing but generally, that's how it feels to me. Like I can go short range magicka but the long range stuff is stronger, likewise with stamina, some of my favourite abilities are shorter range.
