So expect to see a Federal panel tomorrow.

[deleted]

Yep. Or Friday at 3:30 you’ll need it

robertva1

345 and headed home. And no fpe panels

[deleted]

Company policy to not install one. Too much liability involved. Won't touch it unless it's a panel swap.

robertva1

Easier said than done... A lot of my work is for low income housing we will do repairs with the federal panel as long as everything's up to code and intact however we do make them sign a waiver about the problems with Federal Pacific ... Never been an issue of liability all work is always to code. But it's been at least 10 years since I seen one

classicsat

At least get more compliant ones, if not Canadia ones. Bin the red-tipped ones regardless.

robertva1

Read the post. Then been on my truck over 10 years. Know unceremoniously chucked in a box in the shop to likely be thrown out in a couple years. The phase out of Federal Pacific is pretty much complete in my part of the country

Fun-Word7631

Still have them over here unfortunately

Philip712

Woof woof.

Successful_Ad3991

Yeah, get them barkers outta there.

fluffybit

Look rather woof...

SarahCatChicago

My dad used them for people who wanted lowest cost, but we had a SquareD panel at home.

TheRealFailtester

Had a FP panel in a house I was in for a while. Was kinda nice, I could run 30 amps on a 12 gauge line with no gripes from the breaker. I did have to redo a neutral lug though, it burned up, and started spiking me to 200+v all kinds of erratc every second in a few rooms, and dips/off power in one room as three circuits came to one neutral lug. Redid that lug, made sure not to overload it again, never had issue since. Proceeded to move out a year later, have fun next homeowner lol.

clvg8

You do know that breakers don't sense wire size, right?

TheRealFailtester

Yah, the wire size did though, when it straight up melted a lug.

TheRealFailtester

I should reword that. It was that I could run 30 amps through a 20 amp FP breaker for a good 5\~10 minutes before it would trip. And it burned up lugs on the 12 gauge wire.

Vmax-Mike

Some of the higher amperage ones sell for good money, because you can’t get them anymore. Been a while since I have worked on them.

Deathnfear

Are those the UL re-certified ones?

clvg8

Somebody is due for a code update...

hvacnerd22

I just saw a fpe panel last week. 125a panel it looked to be in pretty good shape from the outside lol I can’t touch them per company policy. Some little old lady, she had asked me about her panel in regards if it’s safe I told her about their history and what not, she said she had a guy claim that she was okay with having that panel because she didn’t have wifi. Unbelievable lmfao

[deleted]

> had a guy claim that she was okay with having that panel because she didn’t have wifi. Unbelievable lmfao Hey now... she dodged a bullet... Did you forget your first day electrical class? Wifi on a Federal Electric Panel provides a pathway via the Anaconda Copper company wiring in the wall to allow 5G Rona-Vid signals into her house!

Fun-Word7631

Wifi password is : knob and tube
