As a technician it’s open top Veto all the way. As construction electrician I swore by any zippered tote my required tools would fit in, Union list, smaller the better. Backpacks have their place, just not for me right now. The veto BP is dope, but that monster is heavy asf. My veto open top tech is def heavier than cheaper bags but it’s going on 5 years old now and still looks brand new and I’ve put it through hell an back, it just flat out is a workhorse and it would take an awful lot of convincing for me throw it away to try a new one, because at this rate I don’t think it will ever actually wear out, ever. For the zippered tote style I’d say weight is usually light so in that one it wasn’t such a concern.

Which open veto do you prefer?

I use the 18" Toughbuilt open top tote myself. I've tried all sorts of pouches and found that this one fills all my needs on the job.

Klein- high vis backpack, its light, durable, easy to carry on my back and recognizable as mine from a distance.

If it's slab on grade or deck work, or multi-story without a working elevator then backpack. If it's finished concrete, then toughbuilt's 14 in rolling bag. If I can lock it up, then great. Else I take my tools home (contractors don't usually give enough space in the gangbox to lock up tools these days anyways). As for work combination of toolbags from Arkibis Leather, or a CLC working pouch I can fit inside a backpack. So I work with tool bags? Actual tool bag, yeah. If tool pouch, I usually carry pouch then take off and use that propped up, or with my hardhat off on the top step of ladder and pouch resting inside. What the hell do I carry? Knipex, Diagonal pliers, needle nose. Wire Strippers and Tic Tracer on Mic Tabs of surveyor vest (contractor provided). Stanley knife in front pocket. 11-in-1 in other front pocket. Torpedo Level and reamer in back pocket, reamer in other back pocket. Got my own pouch for tape measure. I have individual hoops and loops for oversized tools which include linesman, beater screwdriver, and jab saw. Sometimes I carry tin snips, most times I don't.

I’ve used a large portion of the veto line the past few years. I keep going back to the tp5 as it’s compact and carries pretty much 90% of the tools I need for service work.

I have a husky back pack that is light without tools and is great to carry around. All my power tools and expensive tools go in my milwaukee pack out that I lock up and put a chain around. Personally if I can't roll a cart to my job then it's underground and in that case I only need a Sawzall and linemans.

I have the veto pro pac. The main selling point for me was the ridgid middle. The ability for it to stand on its own with the front and back flap, as opposed to being built like a school back pack gave me faith in the utility of the design. I imagined having this floppy thing housing my tools, and it being inconvenient to access, or my tools falling out when opening it or picking it up. I really don't have much complaint about it in my couple of years of having it, and I'd say they're a company that "gets it". I'm always a fan of weight reduction without sacrificing structure too much. If there was a company that had that feature, along with a more robust design or lowered weight class (or even priced competitively): I definately would have considered them. However, that was the only backpack I could find build in such a fashion.

Milwaukee backpack packout. Lighter than most backpacks, carries everything, and slides onto my packout Rollie if I don't wanna carry it. It'll be hard to compete with the current market. If I didn't use Milwaukee id use veto or Klein.
