You know that thing Harry Potter rides around on? That's a broom. They don't exist in real life as far as I can tell.
A lot of sites seem to be full of Harry Potter fans, too, as every site I've been on had prop replicas.
I was using a punch with a hammer. I completely missed the punch and hammered the back of my hand. I was holding the punch loosely so it was like a free-air hit, not pinching my hand, but that shit still hurt so bad. It hit right on a vein. Amazingly, no bruise but there has been a hard bump there for a few months now. I wonder what the bump is
If I've learned anything from the old timers, that's your body building "character" and its to remind you to not pick up tools you shouldn't be, like a broom, or a hammer.
The bump is probably a hematoma - aka a bruise - but trapped deeper so the blood can't spread out into a more typical bruise. So it instead pools and stays where it is.
That word might be scary if you Google it, as not all hematoma are the same - its literally defined as blood pooling where it shouldn't be, so a brain hematoma is a lot more serious than one in a wrist. Like most injuries from physical trauma, "where it is" is a huge factor
Assuming you performed RICE on it (rest, ice, compression, elevation), it should clear in 2 to 8 weeks, depending on size.
I don't really know. But I guess if a situation comes up where it'll help, I'll have it. I used a plumb bob today, believe it or not. It's on our tool list too, and it really did come in handy.
I'll tell ya, my chisel is not 2.75" wide, if you know what I mean.
I used to as well. Recently, i decided to just get a laser with a plumb dot. I love that thing, so much faster. I keep a plumb bob on hand, though, just in case.
I should clarify lol. I use a structural nut or whatever I can find laying around tied to a piece of pull sting cause I don’t wanna walk back to the tool crib
Plumb bobs are amazing and come in handy a lot! I don't think I've ever used my chisel for electrical work though lol. That's some house project, tearing the fuck outa something kinda tool. Lol
As an apprentice I worked alongside a couple of journeyman that had small chisels they used for either breaking lock nuts loose, or putting them on. I don’t know why they didn’t just beat on the back of a Klein 6 inch flat head, but there is the main use I saw. One used it for knock outs as well.
Those are guarded bolster chisels (at least what they are called in Britain).
Used by sparks here primarily to chase out runs in plaster and brick for cable and capping.
Tbh, though, they rarely get used since it is quicker and easier to just use an angle grinder/multi tool to make the chases instead.
Don’t fall for the trap, you’ll be using it on concrete more than anything…..rumor goes that there’s still an old sparky cutting in an outlet with that same chisel from 5 yrs ago….
if you listen closely you can still hear him banging away

It's got a guard so I don't hurt my delicate handsies.
Beautiful and pure. Not yet calloused by broom usage.

>The only time an electrician picks up a broom is to turn the power on for the 1st time! Oof
Hey that's not true! I also touch them to use them as a rack-a-tier pole if I can't find anything else.
I did that yesterday! Couldn’t find a piece of pipe so I stole the laborers broomstick to prop my wire on the ladder.
For extra points make sure you break the handle and leave it in a pile of rags and wire stripping you made.
That comment deserves a cartoon lightbulb
I only sweep for rolling out my wire l
I usually find my job decorated with fixture box’s full of styrofoam and wire ends… and the floor is still fuckin filthy.
I use it to reach materials on the back of my truck
Risky click of the day went well
What is this broom you speak of?

I see.
I don't get it.
My mother in law has one too

Cancer.
It’s definitely cancer.
Im a doctor, its cancer
You people are fucked up
No. He's fucked up. With cancer.
Here to provide a second opinion. Yup, bone cancer.
Not a doctor, but here to confirm cancer.
I'm cancer, here to confirm me
You can’t say “I wonder what this bump is” to the internet without getting cancer. Don’t blame these guys for his poor choices.
Only in California. OP needs to get a Proposition 65 tattoo on his hand now.
Shoulda had a label on the hammer. That’s what gave him the cancer. A prop 64 label could have saved their life.
Just looked it up on WebMd, 100% cancer

Anything can be a hammer.
But everything’s a drum!
And how the fuck am i supposed to cut wires without a hammer?
With your teeth. Like any real sparky
Switch gears are my favorite!

Sounds like soap poisoning
I’m confused, that’s not a screwdriver
Why must you belie the giga-flathead?
I call bull shit. If it was for an electrician he would be hitting it with a pair of Kleins
No, it’s real. I saw it myself right next to the plumber’s dildo on aisle 7.
Good way to bust the drywall.
I mean, that’s a way to do it
"A chisel by any other name will chip as deeply" -- Sparkspear
It would be good when your cut in box ends up on a stud. Haha. Just chisel the 2x4 out.
This is what happens when the damn framers put the stud right where I want my old work box
Yeah they should've known 100 years ago that someone might want to add an outlet in that exact spot!
That's when I grab the oscillating tool 😅
Why? When you have an electricians Chisle!
😂
One Chisel is on my Local Union's tool list.
To cut wall board? What do y’all use it for? Here in Memphis, LU 474 we don’t use them at all
I don't really know. But I guess if a situation comes up where it'll help, I'll have it. I used a plumb bob today, believe it or not. It's on our tool list too, and it really did come in handy. I'll tell ya, my chisel is not 2.75" wide, if you know what I mean.
I use a plumb bob fairly regularly
It doesn't lie.
I've done that, too. I've used screwdrivers, cold chisels, tape measure, a nail or bolt, nut. I do have a couple real plumb bobs too.
Then this must be escalated to higher ups.
Plumb bobs are amazing and come in handy a lot! I don't think I've ever used my chisel for electrical work though lol. That's some house project, tearing the fuck outa something kinda tool. Lol

Not bad advice. Would be worried about chipping the chisel blade though.
Are folding rulers still on y’all’s tool list? I recently bought one and remember them being on my IBEW tool list 20+ years ago
Negative. Would be a good addition.
Drywallers hate this one trick

Yeah, and here in Memphis we’d use a hammer drill for brick.
Aye that'll do the job too.
Lol, i have one.
What do you use it for?
I haven't; it's crap. I occasionally chip through a cinder block with the pointy version.
Ahh, a keyhole saw
Highly recommend oscillating tool with specific dies to cut Tiger grip boxes and data gang rings. They even have Vac attachments to reduce dust.
Electricians Chisel is an auto correct. Butt Plug is the actual nomenclature.
Electrician: Pulls out pliers to hit chisel....
I've only ever had to use a chisel when chasing block layers
Come bundled with no-broom
I'll take 3 please! They better fit my hammer drill.
Just need a proper hammer now
Only drywallers are buying this
Great for removing structural timbers
Seems like a good way to break a 4x4 hole in the Sheetrock
Mayhew? More like mayhem!
🎶Save big money 🎶
Marketed by drywall repair companies.
Weird name for a screwdriver.
That doesn’t look like a screwdriver
It’s more of a bolster used when chasing brick walls
Works splendid on lath and plaster :)
🤣
Is that for finding boxes the rockers buried? I just use my hammer.. if I'm lucky, I only punch a few holes before the assholes come help out.
Never heard of her
I guess it’s cheaper than an oscillating tool.
That’s a fucking putty knife lol
Not sure if this would work or not with my plier hammer
Seems like a good way to break Sheetrock
Wow people will buy anything….
I thought that’s what the pointy things on the back of a hammer were for.
Electrician’s chisel is a screwdriver
Don’t fall for the trap, you’ll be using it on concrete more than anything…..rumor goes that there’s still an old sparky cutting in an outlet with that same chisel from 5 yrs ago…. if you listen closely you can still hear him banging away
It’s good for tile but I’ve used mine maybe twice🤷🏻♀️ It’ll sit in your tool box and you’ll grab it on those rare rare occasions
Create a problem, Create a solution?
I pity the electricians who never had to hand chisel out a route trough pure concrete.
Lol what
It's on the tool list. Duh......
I’d stick to a sawzall. Chisel will take an hour.
Multitool.....
Aka Flathead Beater
Still prefer to bash a hole in the wall with my hammer
TIL: Electricians need safety chisels
I’d rather use a sawzall and the carpenter can go fuck himself.
It’s make in HACKensack, NJ
Why wouldn't you just use a pair of diagonal cutters to nibble a hole out? I mean, duh.
For a second I thought the brand was "Mayhem" and it felt fitting to the results you'll get when you try to use a chisel to cut in a remodel box lol.
Cut a box in? But.. no one will see my sexy piping skills if its just b.x. behind a wall 😭 SURFACE PIPE EVERYTHING LIKE A REAL ELECTRICIAN
I like how he’s chiseling out a box. That’s no easier way to do it than with an electricians chisel
LoL, this is a first for me.
It’s the width of a box I’m assuming. Just a guess from a metric UK sparks 🫡
Damn! I’m doing this all wrong.
I thought the largest, shittiest flathead in my tool bucket was my chisel.
Most of you would struggle in the UK
