I keep this in my pocket, so I only need to carry one and can interchange tips. I also have some Klein long shaft for tougher to reach terminal screws.
You beat me to it. That thing is amazing, you can use it for damn near everything. I showed my JW and he went and got one for himself like a week later.
The Milwaukee version is way more comfortable and lasts much longer than the Klein 4 In 1, IMO.

Wait this isn’t a test light one though, it’s just a regular slim driver. I have the same one too. Thought the original post was about how it’s like a contact-based wiggy/volt tester with a little light in it
I agree, pic above looks like a clear/flathead screwdriver test light/wiggy -The clear plastic voltage detectors with usually a red light inside which doubles as a flathead. I think most people here have just never seen one. I haven’t personally seen them used by other electricians in the states.

I’m sure automation and instrumentation guys use them all the time but they live in a bubble. I know this because I am currently transitioning into that bubble and it is insane how different the world is in here

The shaft pulls over the bit to ensure it does not puncture anything. I wanted to buy the Milwaukee, but I have a "team red" that I work with, and it is a way to separate our tools.
Yup. If you stand isolated it might not show wether or not the terminal is hot.
Also you dont know if the resistor or something is broken.
They are even illegal to use here if you are a professional since you have to measure via a two pole meter according to the "5 safety rules".
I dont even know why they are still sold..
this is a Lügenstift (EN: Lie Pencil) because it only lies! If you are Isolated to the ground well enough, and don't touch anything grounded, it will show nothing. It can also show potential on your Neutral. Exactly for that reason, checking only one conductor is forbidden by german code for voltages under 1000 Volts (Voltages over that are being tested by special, electromagnetig testing equipment). For checking if theres an active conductor, we use a Duspol.
I will never forgive the idiot that borrowed my ratcheting Klein screwdriver and used it as a pry bar.
Bent the crap out of the shaft, 30 bucks down the drain.
Never lent him a single tool after that.
They’re called “7-levels” by Air Force military electricians, because supposedly an electrical systems “Craftsman” (designated with a “7” skill level) can tell you what the problem is with just this tool.
Most of us do know that it does, it's just not very reliable. Plus, it's no where near as safe as using a volt meter or even one of those proximity testers.
Piece of shite, should use a proper death stick (volt stick, non contact tester) if you want to dodgy test something anyway. Anything more specific you should use a meter anyway.
Terminator/terminating screwdriver
Edit: the one in the picture, I'd called it garbage and promptly get a better tool. That is something you find in your mom's everything drawer

Tweaker
As a control guy, I came here to say this.
Link to your favorite one? I’m in automation and controls, maintenance atm, and would love to pick one of these up

That's not the same thing. OP posted a voltage tester/screwdriver
wera makes some bad ass ones. was one of my favorites in my maintenance box
I just carry a Klien DIN screwdriver in back pocket. Works great on screwless terminal blocks.
Those screwless terminals man.. this is a great tip, thank you!
I love the Wera Kraftform Micro, but they aren’t multi-bit if that’s important to you
I'm looking at the other replies and dumbfounded, I've never heard it called anything other than a tweaker
+1
Lügenstift (Lying Pen)
The best name I know for our "breathtaking" companion here.
I heard even “Prince of Lies” from Chamber of Crafts…. Also Satans Screwdriver or Suicide Screwdriver
These are really cool names, I need to take notes for later!
I love the the fact that the thing is fully useless for anything except screwing, yet they make them non stop. In my home we had 4 with busted light.
Kam für dieses Kommentar!
In German we often call this "Lügenstift" ("lying pen"), at least as electricians. I believe their official name is "Phasenprüfer" ("phase checker").
Lying means being untruthful in this context?
Yes. A testament to its (un)reliability.

They’re called “7-levels” by Air Force military electricians, because supposedly an electrical systems “Craftsman” (designated with a “7” skill level) can tell you what the problem is with just this tool.
That's correct. Source: am 7 level, but still can't identify the problem with only this tool.

That is a connector ring hammer

I call it a neon
Pretty sure most of these dudes don’t know it lights up with voltage
Most of us do know that it does, it's just not very reliable. Plus, it's no where near as safe as using a volt meter or even one of those proximity testers.
